QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 13, 2007 -> 01:38 PM) This is a semi-serious question. Do we ever get hits in the first 3 innings? No. I'm semi-serious, too. I'm not optimistic that Hall's going to come up and change everything or even anything. Not at all. -

QUOTE(fathom @ May 13, 2007 -> 01:37 PM) This is so freaking embarrassing. It's really a good thing we didn't keep Eduardo Perez on the roster. I have a feeling our winning ways lately have masked all these issues in the front office, and no chances are even being considered. It's fascinating though to see De La Rosa keep everything down, and Vazquez throwing everything up. What's masking the issue is optimism. "Oh, Crede's turned the corner last year." "Paulie won't party like it's 2003." "Dye isn't living in quicksand." People need to face reality. Holy s***, man, this offense is terrible and there are no more excuses. No more weather. No "tired," definitely. -

This offense has no bite -
QUOTE(Texsox @ May 13, 2007 -> 09:05 AM) Private versus Government Faceless corporation a dozen layers above you. Faceless government a dozen layers above you. Great coworkers you want to hang with. Great coworkers you want to hang with. Jerks for coworkers you can't stand. Jerks for coworkers you can't stand Great promotions and advancement opportunities. Great promotions and advancement opportunities Getting screwed by office politics. Getting screwed by policies. BTW, Nuke has a government job. Exciting international travel, they provide food, clothing, and shelter, excellent training, cool awards and advancement opportunities, they let him and his buddies vote on their boss. You're the best...sometimes.

In two more days, fire sale talk will pick up

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 13, 2007 -> 09:09 AM) Or that Crede would have regressed to 2002-03 form...didn't see that one coming either. Iguchi and Dye, we knew, due to their ages, there would be a dropoff, and Dye's decline was inevitable...but Konerko? I just don't like the odds of spending $15 million on Ichiro in his mid 30's. I thought Crede would regress. Some people here think not, but I really think so. I'd have dealt him and Dye last offseason. -
QUOTE(RME JICO @ May 13, 2007 -> 09:09 AM) I don't think he will be a complete bust, especially in Boston where their offense will give him some extra wins. He will probably end up being a #4 or #5 starter. Dice-K has very similar number to Nomo who always struck out a ton of batters. For the money though, Danks is a bargain. For Matsuzaka, "#4/#5 starter"=bustbustbust.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 13, 2007 -> 08:24 AM) Highly doubt it. If someone told me he'd be hovering below .200 into May, I'd have said "Highly doubt it" too. -
Michael Moore facing Treasury Dept. investigation
Gregory Pratt replied to Balta1701's topic in The Filibuster
When Paul O'Neill teamed with Suskind for The Price of Loyalty, the Treasury leaked that he'd stolen documents and used them illegally and that they might be pressing charges but would be investigating. It was a ploy. Nothing more. O'Neill wasn't stupid enough to do something illegal that the attack dogs could get him over, and neither is Fat Ass. -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 13, 2007 -> 07:58 AM) As long as Thome is healthy he is fine. As for the rest, every single one of them will get much, MUCH better as the season goes on. Like I said, we're 3 games over .500 when our best hitter has been hurt and our two other best hitters are hitting under .200, it's pretty nuts if you think about it. And it's not like Dye and Paul don't have a history to back them up, both are going to get back close to their career averages, and when they start hitting and Thome gets back watch the hell out. This is a good team that hasn't hit a lick yet and is still hanging around. I can see Konerko repeating 2003. I hope not, but it's a very real possibility. -
Matsuzaka's struck out far more guys. But Danks' ERA should be lower. I'd take Danks, though. I think Daisuke will bust.

QUOTE(NUKE @ May 13, 2007 -> 02:01 AM) This fire sale talk is a bunch of horses***. This team has the pitching working right now and all it's going to take is the bats heating up, which you know is going to happen, and this team can easily retake 1st place. I've never seen this level of pessimism over a team that has played like crap and is still 3 games over. Just wait till they bring their A game. We've heard that song before. I'm cautiously optimistic, though. -
I can't think of anyone at AAA right now who I think will contribute much. Not even Fields.

Wonder what it'd take to pry Salty or McCann from the Braves. I'd give up a lot for McCann.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 12, 2007 -> 11:04 PM) I think Uribe is going to have a huge season some year. There are only 2 AL SS with more RBI than him since 2004. The thing with him is, he will go into a slump eventually. That's when you move him out of the 2 hole. Iguchi is really struggling. Last year I mentioned trading him because something about him says to me when he falls apart, its going to be quick. When I was walking my dog around the field yesterday, Iguchi was in the dugout, and he's a lot thicker in person than he is on television. I think the extra weight has zapped some of his range. This could be his last year with the White Sox. I wouldn't be surprised if KW went after Grudz eventually. He can grind with the best of him. I'd love Grudz and Eckstein. Grudz Eckstein Erstad Mmhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

When I was a grammar school kid, I had a teacher named De La Rosa who liked to spoil things for her students. Like when a boy had a very good spelling streak going in the spelling bee, she'd ask them to spell "leak" but would pronounce it "leahck" to throw them off, and some kids would forget the k. Fortunately, we had a boy named Vazquez who came up and he looked her dead in her Royal blue eyes and said, "Ms. De La Rosa, the word is leak. L-E-A-K. And I intend to plug it!" And he did. And from then on, everyone passed their spelling tests. What I'm trying to say is, Go Sox! (I'm making this now because I've got tomorrow's game, with the win, and might as well.)
-
That's much better, less stupid. And I agree. QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 12, 2007 -> 10:51 PM) Actually he's been playin pretty well in AAA. So's Brian Anderson. Always does in AAA. Andy Gonzalez =/ MLB second baseman
-
It's not his contract year!
-
QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 12, 2007 -> 09:56 PM) I know, that's why I suggested it in the game thread. What I'm trying to say is that Darin isn't a great enough 1B to be justified as a defensive upgrade at first. Are you kidding me? Erstad is twice the first baseman Paul "No range" Konerko is. Obviously you don't move him to first if you don't have to but if it's got to be done it's definitely an upgrade.
-
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 12, 2007 -> 09:47 PM) Didnt Erstad win a GG there? He won it for his massive bat. Darin's a great athlete

QUOTE(fathom @ May 12, 2007 -> 08:36 PM) This is a great cause....but these hitters have been swinging a pink bat all year. You stole my joke
-
QUOTE(fathom @ May 12, 2007 -> 08:35 PM) Best wishes to Cintron. Gonzalez should start at 2nd base, and Iguchi should start looking for real estate back in Japan. That's one of the stupidest things I've heard all year. I'm surprised at you. Andy Gonzalez over Iguchi? Please. Tadahito has been garbage but let's not go nuts.
