Cleveland is a growing threat
Take it for what its worth, but Cleveland sits atop the MLBs in Team ERA at 3.50 But of course, the Injuns bats are alot more inconsistant than our Sox are...thats saying alot huh.

Carl Everett this year
I'll admit...whenever there is b****ing about Carl playing the OF, I'm usually behind it. But Carl has done a helluva job in RF when he plays there, tracking balls in the gaps that I thought were sure hits. He has been, if not a bit better than Dye out there when he is asked to play the field. Just don't put him in CF please Ozzie.

Inside the numbers...
For a 5 starter, you won't hear me complain much about a 1.50 WHIP, 4.50-5.00 ERA....just that he has been a hard one to watch out on the mound last starts, and WHIP has always been bad.

Does Konerko not like Uribe or something?
QUOTE(TLAK @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 08:12 AM) Amigo, what do Clayton's offensive stats have to do with his playing shortstop? Clayton has been and remains a pretty good defensive shortstop, his strength being steadiness. He has a good arm, not great and good range, not great but rarely pulls a boner like the other night. His D is what keeps him in the big leagues, so his mistakes were remarkable and Kornerko remarked on them. Defense alone does not a player make. If that was the case, no one would ever say Crediocre is bad. Whem someone says that a mediocre hitting, but solid defensive Shortstop is the "best they've ever played with" , then yes I count the EVERYTHING that player does. And if you'll read my post again, I gave props to Choice being a good defensive SS.

Pauly, if I could just show you a couple things right quick... Year Team G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB K SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS 2001 CWS 135 433 62 114 21 4 9 60 33 72 10 7.263 .315 .393 .708 2002 CWS 112 342 51 86 14 2 7 35 20 67 5 1.251 .295 .366 .661 What part of The Choice's game was "best ever" may I ask while he was here? His fantastic OBP? Those 15 SBs he got in 247 games? Maybe those 53 Walks he took! I don't doubt that Choice had a pretty solid defensive game, but no way in hell does he posess an arm like Uribe, and Uribe has a HELLUVA lot more offensive ability than K-layton.

NEW Foo Fighters
"Resolve" and "DOA" are quickly becoming favorite tracks on the 1st CD. Although I normally avoid MTV like the plague, they had a pretty cool 24 hours with the Foo Fighters on MTV2. From noon EST saturday till noon EST sunday, The boys from Foo took over the MTV studio and pretty much stayed up 24 hours straight just doing whatever they wanted. Quite enjoyable.

Inside the numbers...
Wins and ERA are NOT a definate form of rating a pitchers effectiveness. The fact that his WHIP has been s*** all season, coupled with the BAA at almost .300, goes a long way to saying how effective Duque has been. The overruling fact is he has gotten the defensive and offensive support to get him 7 wins, not because he went out and had a great command of things. 5.7 runs per game is what the offense is giving Duque. Lets compare that with our other starters: 3.8 runs per game for Buehrle 3.6 runs per game for Contreras 4.8 runs per game for Garcia 6.2 runs per game for Garland Now, with that being said, that is runs scored in each game those guys pitched in, not necessarily runs scored WHILE they were in there. But still gives a general observation as to runs scored for each starter. About what we already knew. Garland has been getting a helluva lot of support, Duque too...Buehrle and Contreras on the other hand...

Inside the numbers...
QUOTE(TheHammer @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 02:52 AM) For my first post I would like to say.....7-2 looks good to me! Record does yes, but 4.81 ERA, 1.63 WHIP, .292 BAA makes me want to repeatedly :puke WHIPs that high are a telling sign that Duque has gotten VERY good support, both defensively and offensively, to have 7 wins

Inside the numbers...
Thought I'd take a closer look at El Duques stats so far this year to see if anything really stood out at me: Granted its limited sample size, but his difference in performance indoors vs. outdoors, and grass vs. turf are quite astounding. Also, heres the numbers on Duque's last 4 starts: 19.1 IP, 28 H, 20 R, 20 ER, 4 HR, 9 BB, 14K, 9.31 ERA, 1.91 WHIP Yikes

Pac-Man celebrates 25 years
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 02:24 PM) Dont date yourself, SS2K5 . I still remember playing PacMan, Joust, Defender, Ms Pacman, all those fun games at Pizza joints. they were all even cooler back then because they were the table design that you look down at, instead of the standup models. As a former arcade game collector...yes the full size ones, I'll tell you that a Cocktail version of Pac-Man still functional is still hard to come by. But if you want to own the holy grail of early 80's full size arcade games...find either Tempest or Tapper!! I had Tapper full size, but left it on my porch outside too long and ...well I'd rather not talk bout that anymore, makes me sad.

Trades That Never Happened
And actually, after some more studying up... Of every stadium that Maggs has had at least 100 ABs in, his average at Comerica Park ranks 2nd worst, only to Network Associates (where all of our hitters have sucked). Comerica career BA: .248

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 11:35 PM) Great, more "drinking buddies." :headshake No offense to everyone with "inside sources," but I immediately file it all under "bulls***" whenever someone brings that up rather than just stating an opinion. That's just my way avoiding any need of trying to guess who might be lying and who might actually be telling the truth. CubKilla is the cynical king bud. He was just throwing a zinger at JR, something he does alot!

Sox luck out again for the Dodgers series...
Reading the pitching matchups...by sunday, Contreras should realistically be deciding if we sweep LA, or only take 2 out of 3. Don't play down the the competition this weekend Sox...

Changing the mojo.. Sox-D'backs 6/15/05
Nicely done Cheat....but PLEASE folks, don't go and start a new thread everytime we are behind from now on. I'm trying real hard to keep every gamethread nicely organized in the archives, and this will create a huge clusterf***. Cheat, GREAT timing on this one, no doubt. Needed the mojo change.

NEW Foo Fighters
Listened to it all a few times now. I'm a bit biased, but I love the sound. One of the acoustic tracks features Taylor on lead vocals, and actually sounds pretty good. "Resolve" is a great flowing song. I can see it as a single if it isn't already. "In Your Honor" the title track is IMO a GREAT lead in song to the disc. "Cold Day In the Sun" is the acoustic track with Taylor Hawkins lead vocals "On the Mend" is another acoustic track that lets Grohl show he has the voice to carry a slow, mellow song. Definately go pick it up. The Foo did nothing with "In Your Honor" to change my mind that they are still one of the best bands out there right now.
