  1. I second that notion ABoz, don't watch it, don't honestly care anything about it. Theres always that lull between the end of football, and the beginning off baseball to me.
  2. NO chance. Lets see, with Manny and Maggs, we would only have 57% of our payroll in 2 players. Thats a GREAT idea!!!
  3. No offense to Kip, but it was Capn12 that gave you that hint....damn you!!

Wow, I feel.....so....misinformed. I thought Maddux made 20 mil last year. At 14.75 million, its a bit of a different situation. But if the best offer that Maddux gets is a 6-7 million for 1 year offer, the MLBPA will be SCREAMING collusion at all the owners.
  5. I'm not arguing whether or not the Union is doing its job or not though, cw, I'm saying that the MLBPA as a union is too strong as it is, and anything that happens from now on to heighten its power is obsurd. IMO the MLBPA does not have much ground to walk on, and they are already teetering ever so closely to losing their livelyhood by alienating those that are the most important to this game that they control.
  6. And don't forget, after they put in their minimum service time, they have a pension to look forward to also!! :fyou MLBPA
  7. I'm not normally an ass man, but Holy Hell in a Handbasket, look at that ass!!
  8. Yeah, but when you combine one of the games best hitters, with one of the games worst work ethics, this happens. Every team would grow tired of Mannys attitude towards the game after a while.

Yeah, Steve my fault. San Diego got him from the Reds, so that Atlanta would NOT get him. I got too many baseball facts rolling around in my head, sorry!!
  10. Capn12 replied to slick03's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yeah, but Jas, the MLBPA would never allow that. Going from a 1 yr/20 mill contract to a 1 yr/6 mill one, thats a 70% decrease in salary, and MLBPA doesnt believe in that!!!
  11. Capn12 replied to The Beast's topic in Pale Hose Talk
So, Rex, that current contract is pretty much set in stone for Manny then? If thats teh case, yeah no one is gonna bite on Manny
  12. Capn12 replied to The Beast's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The most well known usage of the waiver wire was when San Diego put Randy Myers on waivers in the 90's, and teh Braves picked him up to keep thier competitors from picking him up. They were stuck with a broken down reliever with a HUGE contract.
  13. SS2K4, cant you use an image program to convert it to JPG?? Go download ABC from Download.com. Its Advanced Batch COnverter, it will allow you to convert to all kinds of file formats.
  14. Come on now!!! Lets get serious....its nothing like Willie Haris asking for 20 million, because at least Willie can run
  15. I don't really think you can say that a "large portion" of their stuff was pop based. Of their 17 albums that were released in the US, 8 of them were pre-Rubber Soul, which is when most Beatles 'historians' would say their sound changed. Even then, there was alot on those first 8 albums, after "A Hard Day's Night" that could be considered creatively different.

Beastley, I believe that if a team picks up Manny off waivers, that team is responsible for the rest of his contract. If no one picks him up, then he will have cleared waivers, and teams can sign him for a certain % of his last salary. I believe that is correct, although I'm not sure about the resign amount you can get the player for.
  17. Well, when it comes to Bonds vs. Ruth, come and tell me when Bonds goes out, hits 714 HRs, AND wins 94 games, with 107 CG!!! and a 2.28 ERA. Ruth was one in a million on the baseball field, Bonds, while VERY impressive as a player, IMO doesn't compare.
  18. Holy Hell, the strongest union in the US wants to cry collusion because owners maybe, just MAYBE, are deciding to not let things get any more out of hand. Boo freakin Hoo!!! Cry me a river. Did the MLBPA think that owners were just gonna keep getting more and more obsurd every year?

In all honesty I think that unless King George gets involved here, the 3 yr/36 mill is gonna be the best offer Colon sees this offseason. Whether or not K-Dub leaves the offer on the table for Colon to come back to, that remains to be seen.
  20. Not Carlos...He's on an upswing and is definitely a keeper for a while! Problem is his salary is going to start going up big time. He got paid $3.3 mil this year and is looking at least $5 this year, plus some big raises in the next couple years. The question that lies in that is could we find someone to take his place for less with the same or more skill than he possesses? Rowand has a while before he gets there, and guys like Ramierez will cost up the ass. He's worth the amount of which he is asking for. He's gonna be even better than last year next year offensively and defensively. He's consistently improving and will become an elite player before long. I've got very high visions for Carlos! It has nothing to do with if we can replace Carlos, and if he is worth the money. The problem is will Carlos's exponentially increasing salaries fit into the Sox budget along with the other money we have already committed. Well, heres the decision...a 27 year old CLee who is improving every year, and just hitting his prime at around $5 mill, or a 29 year old Maggs who is at his prime right now at $14 mill. In my oopinion, if we can send Maggs to NYY for Soriano, I'm announcing that trade ASAP. I want CLee here for at least 2 more years, he should be the new #3 hitter.
  21. Paul McCartney wrote Rocky Racoon, and I believe he wrote Paperback writer also. Try again buddy... both songs are credited to both overrated musicians:) should I say, wanna be musicians:) Holy f***in s***!!! Tell me you are saying such things PA just to get a rouse from all us posters. I don't think that there should much argument to the statement that McCartney/Lennon was the best song writing duo that there has been in my lifetime, and IMO ever. The evolution that the band itself went through from 1962 to 1970 alone is more than most bands will ever attain, and the contrasting styles that Lennon and McCartney produced together will IMO NEVER be matched. Theres a lot of grbage being made since the Beatles that people claim is "great songwriting" but please, when compared to a real songwriting duo, it all falls short.

Seattle is as cash-strapped now as they have ever been under Nintendos ownership. I don't think they will be the one with Matsui at SS. Anaheim, OTOH....
  23. good Lord....no more Idle Hands pics, man you are killin me....That girl is too much.
  24. Hmmm, interesting....I may consider this next year. I have been to Picnic in the Park before, that was tons of fun, and I am going to Spring Training next year also. Time to start saving the $$$ it looks like.

I think that economically, Kazuo Matsui makes TOO MUCH sense for the Sox. You can make a large amount on merchandising alone, you fill a much needed spot in the field, you fill the Top of the Lineup speed/OBP need, and you get the media attention that JR so desperately desires. Unfortunately, knowing how JR operates, theres no chance he takes a shot at Matsui, Reinsdorf probably sees him as both unsignable due to other teams possible interest, and too risky, being that he hasn't proven his ability in AMerican baseball.
