  1. I have wanted the Bears to get rid of Eberflus for quite a while, but when he took over the defense, they got much better. Fields is almost exactly the same as last year. There are flashes of a HOFer, followed by flashbacks of previous Bears QBs. It's really a tough call. I read where Fields would only get you a 2nd or 3rd rounder in a trade. I think if you did that, you would look ripped off one day. It's a tough call. The trade they made last year turns out to be masterful. I think I would keep Eberflus and get a new OC with some flexibility.
  2. What I don't get is how much credit people give catchers. I think they are expecting miracles. If you hated the White Sox catchers in 2023, and think these new old guys will fix pitchers, you would need to explain how Touki pitched just as well or better with the White Sox crap as he did with ATL, CLE, and LAD. And he's one of the guys that needs to be "fixed". The pitchers traded, except for Diekman did the same or worse, and no one would blame Diekmans suckage on catchers. Even Lance Lynn had a FIP a run higher with the Dodgers. Lynn also had probably the best season on his career in 2021 with the White sox catchers. I think they are going totally overboard with this. A year from now, there will be new pitchers and new catchers. What will be the gain?
  3. It’s possible, but if she tells you she’s 19, and looks 21, but is 14, if you’re an adult and do certain things, you are in a lot of trouble. Supposedly Franco has had “relationships” with at least 3 underaged girls. It appears this wasn’t an innocent mistake by him. BTW, I wonder what his wife thinks.
  4. Korey Lee has the same skill sets as the others. Defense should be decent, power, doesn't get on base much, has a pitchers batting average. But he's at the age where you usually improve, these others are on the downslope. I think one would be fine, but 2 is strange to me.
  5. I agree. You want to improve the culture? Develop, sign and trade for better players, and hire a manager that can handle the job. Not a guy who is afraid of veterans but will make strange examples out of rookies.
  6. Im going with Alexander. Was with Bannister in SF last season, and was with, of course, the Royals when Pedro Brown nose was there.
  7. Great changing the culture, then leaving after 1 season. I find it hard to believe one guy can change a culture moving forward in that span of time, especially with a roster that isn't going to be there in a couple of years either.
  8. I think one or the other would have been fine, although they are paying some for reputation and not performance with Maldonado. I think both is overkill. Might as well let Korey Lee be the back up and maybe learn from one of them.
  9. Getz is far superior. I have seen the light. He started easy getting guys who couldn't hit but could field. He has now moved into the can't hit and can't field phase of the roster construction. Can't wait to see Zack Remillard at spring training.
  10. Fangraphs has Seby better defensively than Maldanado each of the past 2 seasons, and he got DFA'd.
  11. Your saying Chris Getz should be commended for Rwmillard, and Leury, and even Nicky Delmonico, but should get no blame for anything that went wrong, as he clearly earned his promotion. I disagree. He’s the wrong guy. He was brought in because the owner was too egotistical and lazy to conduct a real search.
  12. He was the director of player development, assistant GM farm director. He was somewhat responsible for putting people in place to develop players. They have done a poor job, hence 101 losses. Sox can’t develop hitters, no patience, and there was an Athletic article a couple of years go. Guess which organization ranked last for developing fastball velocity? Hint, your guy was in charge.
  13. I’d rather they use their entire international bonus pool then waste money, however small, on this. His defense is going the wrong way.
  14. Maybe Stassi told Getz he can’t play anymore. I really don’t understand this move.
  15. He had no problem saying he was looking like a future cornerstone when he was injured, and walking everyone. You should save your post. Someday you will re read it wonder how the hell you can call the players you listed feathers in Getz cap. Maybe you’re his brother or something. The only team in baseball that would give him a GM job, gave it to him. All we have left is hoping JR is smarter than everyone else again. It never seems to work spencer Adams, Jared Kelly, Matt Thompson, CArson Fulmer, Zack Burdi, Zack Collins, do you need more? All first and 2nd round total busts.
  16. Ha Those players didn’t provide value any more than any other team in baseball. Every team has replacement level players in the minors. The other teams develop several and make them better. Getz’ regime did not. In the same press conference JR stated KW and RH could turn the Sox around, he basically blamed them for Getz failure. I wonder if teams had been calling JR for years trying to get Getz because they were so impressed with the list of replacement level players you mentioned. Maybe, and I hope he will be a good GM. There was that one show where CEOs put on a costume and did lowere level jobs to see what was going on, and they didn’t do them very well. Maybe a guy who can’t develop players can be a good GM. It’s our only hope. There are plenty of indications that we’ve got ourselves a future starter in Norge Vera,” said Chris Getz, Chicago’s assistant general manager/director of player development. “We look forward to continuing his development.” Oops.
  17. Leury signed a minor league deal after sitting out a season, and he pre dated Getz anyway. Crap gets signed all the time. The crap you mentioned doesn’t play a role on teams that win consistently.
  18. Bob said he had his eyes on the Angels job, but that didn't open up. KW is a fossil in today's baseball world, and except for one brilliant season, talked a better game than he played. I can't see any team hiring him for a meaningful role. Maybe a special assistant or consultant, but I doubt his ego would let him sign up for anything where he wasn't the guy.
  19. The Chiefs have been Nagy'd.
  20. It's a late addition, but this has to be post of the year.
  21. He was the Director of Player Development. What were his duties?
  22. JR admitted he didn’t interview anyone at the press conference.
  23. Do you think Chris Getz would have been a realistic candidate for any other GM position in Major League Baseball? I hope he’s great, but he hasn’t done anything a real candidate couldn’t have done while “wasting” a year. And he was director of player development. It would be nice to see a guy get called up and at least look like they weren’t introduced to baseball in the last couple of days. I will admit at least it’s not RH or KW is a positive, but it was time for JR to go out of his comfort zone. It wasn’t working.
  24. He gave Kelly’s wife a Porsche for Kelly giving up 17.
