PENN STATE SCANDAL
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 12:02 PM) A lot of priests have done a lot worse than anything even Paterno's worst enemy would accuse him of, so I find it ironic people are so convinced that heaven isnt full of child molesters. Now we will never really know what happened, unfortunate. We won't know what really happened from Paterno's end, had he not died I really wonder if we would have ever had the entire story about that anyway.

PENN STATE SCANDAL
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 10:34 AM) His doctors also wished they could have done more. The one tweet I saw was a guy surprised he died on a Sunday considering how he really didn't like ruining others' weekends. That said, RIP. He did a lot of good. His non-action was disgusting and he paid for it dearly. I'm sure if it were someone close to me that had something happen because of his lack of action, I wouldn't be very kind. The timing of his death is almost too interesting to believe. Months after breaking a record, then the scandal breaks then he gets fired, he dies. If it were a movie you wouldn't have believed it.

2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread
QUOTE (Mr. Showtime @ Jan 21, 2012 -> 10:11 AM) Chuck Garfien @ChuckGarfien Looks like a slimmer Adam Dunn will be at Sox Fest next week. Heard he's lost 30 pounds. At least he'll look better walking back to the dugout after another whiff.

Fausto Carmona has a new name and age!
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 20, 2012 -> 07:40 AM) I generally only think of Dominicans with false ages, and false names for that matter. Santiago Casilla was Jairo Garcia, Juan Carlos Oviedo was Leo Nunez, whatever Roberto Hernandez Heredia was Fausto Carmona, and Vladimir Guerrero, not that long ago, was determined to be 1 year older than he was. I'm sure I'm missing quite a few as well. I think, to gain citizenship within the Dominican Republic, and then to gain a work visa through the United States, it's going to take a damn safe certification. Some may have gotten by it before 9/11, but I don't see it anymore. In fact, I think the Sox are smart in signing Cuban players because their ages are almost certain to be correct. What kind of certification do you really think guys like Alexei and Contreras and El Duque really provide? Do you really think Cuba would cooperate and provide that information?

Soxfest 2012 announced
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 21, 2012 -> 11:23 AM) Cmon now, there's a lot to complain about when it comes to Kenny but he's never ducked the media or fans... He's ducking the Sox fans at Soxfest and Paul Sullivan said last week he has been ducking the press all offseason. But you are right, when things are going well, he's not one to duck anyone's praises.

Soxfest 2012 announced
QUOTE (Sockin @ Jan 20, 2012 -> 12:12 PM) Schedule highlights: http://whitesoxpride.mlblogs.com/2012/01/2...-2012-schedule/ KW is only doing a Friday seminar. Anyone not buying a hotel package won't be able to question him. Apparently KW isn't "Chicago tough". Its time for a change if the GM or the marketing department is afraid of what the fans might have to say. OTOH, maybe he'll be too involved in Gavin Floyd trade talks with Toronto those days. KW needed to go with Ozzie. Its time for a fresh start. This isn't one. The GM is ducking the media and the fans. How effective can he really be? If things are going well he always has something to say. IMO that's a character flaw.

Peavy vs Ozzie
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 20, 2012 -> 05:29 PM) Clear. But why do the Ozzie haters continue to bash him for "quitting?" You agree apparently one of the two had to leave. It was Ozzie. Who cares if it was with a few days left in the crap season? If I'm to like Kenny again, I want to see him actually make a trade that doesn't make me feel ill. Because he did quit. He cried last offseason about his option for 2012, the Sox picked it up but in the end, that wasn't good enough for him. HE said he couldn't manage with one year on his contract. Walter Alston only had one year contracts. For most of his career, so did Tommy Lasorda. Tony LaRussa only had one year left in 2011 and he managed the Cardinals. Maybe leaving was the best thing for his career, but there is no doubt.............Ozzie quit. I don't know how many times he said the White Sox were who he wanted to manage. He had a contract to manage them in 2012. He walked away from it. Granted, KW could have told him he was going to be fired, but so far that hasn't come out.

Fausto Carmona has a new name and age!
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 19, 2012 -> 08:36 PM) Every time something like this comes out, I fear Alexei is really like 32 and Viciedo is like 26. Although Viciedo actually looks baby-faced. Alexei.....not so much. Farmio said Alexei was 33 last season.

Another White Sox / Blue Jays trade on the horizon?
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jan 19, 2012 -> 03:45 PM) I love Syndergaard. Not surprised the Jays want to hold on to him. Why does anyone believe anything this twitter account posts? He already said the trade was a done deal, then said the Sox had medical concerns then said Toronto ownership nixed the deal because they don't want to add payroll. Of course Paul Beeston said Rogers has never said no for that reason. He's just throwing crap out there.
-
Sox could have had Wood
I read somewhere that before he returned to the Cubs, Wood actually agreed to a contract with another team, but didn't pull a Dye and backed out of the deal. I wonder if it was the Sox. I hope not.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 17, 2012 -> 05:19 PM) jonmorosi Jon Morosi #BlueJays release Mark Teahen He's a good guy, so I'm sure he'll get a shot with someone for the minimum.

Another White Sox / Blue Jays trade on the horizon?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 03:28 PM) Still going... FarrellBall FARRELL BALL From my source: #Jays and #WhiteSox are still working on a possible Gavin Floyd trade... Still hearing a lot of Deck McGuire.. #FarrellBall Didn't this guy say the trade before was a done deal, then say the Sox were concerned with some medicals, then said Toronto ownership said no way? One day he may actually be correct, but I'm not buying anything he tweets about this subject anymore.

Should Lillibridge be in our everyday lineup in 2012?
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 17, 2012 -> 08:45 AM) The problem with that thinking is that "Having to re-earn your job" can demoralize a veteran. Of course, the only one I can really think of who might have that problem on this roster is AJ. AJ hasn't earned his job?
-
My patience is running out with KW
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 12, 2012 -> 02:25 PM) Any time a guy gets his release, there's usually some sort of small savings for the club. He might be the kind willing to sit on the bench to collect his full $54 million, but it can't hurt to ask. Not in baseball. It happens all the time in the NBA, but that's because the contract is the contract and a new contract from another team isn't deducted from the original contract. In other words, if the Bulls released Carlos Boozer and he signed with Memphis for $1 million a year, he just got a $1 million raise. (prorated)

Official 2011-2012 NFL Thread
QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jan 15, 2012 -> 06:47 PM) Id put New England in that category as well Yeah, a NE/GB Super Bowl would have been one of the highest scoring Super Bowls of all time. I'm so happy GB lost.

Adam Dunn is not done
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jan 15, 2012 -> 09:06 PM) Thome makes the important point that he was told "you are the DH" and he embraced it and excelled. The first thing Ventura did was tell the public Dunn will play the field more. Not good. They are willing to try anything. Dunn was told he would primarily be the DH when he signed. There were no surprises there. If you recall he didn't want to be a DH then when he saw the dollar figures being a DH wouldn't be so bad. I know the sample sizes were very small, but Dunn actually hit better as a DH in 2011 than he did as a position player. To make it seem like Dunn was coming into a situation at least partially unaware of what the plan was is incorrect and not a excuse for the near history making result.

Adam Dunn is not done
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 29, 2011 -> 12:38 PM) The main reason Ozzie disliked Swisher from what the media reported is that Ozzie felt Swisher was selfish for pouting that he was losing out on at bats to Wise while the team was in a pennant race. Ozzie disliking someone for being selfish and pouting while probably true is kind of funny. No one in the White Sox organization has been more selfish or pouted more than Ozzie since Swisher left town.

Peavy vs Ozzie
QUOTE (GREEDY @ Jan 15, 2012 -> 02:35 PM) I kind of got he feeling from listening to the interview that Jake basically has come to grips with he fact that he just doesn't have it anymore. I didn't get that at all. The guy was less than a year from major surgery. There were times he was dominant for a while. He was hitting a wall at about 60 pitches. I don't expect him to win the Cy Young, but it wouldn't surprise me if he winds up the Sox #1 or #2 starter next year. It won't be enough to pick up his option, but it may be enough to unload him at the deadline if the Sox have no chance.

Time for Soler thread...
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jan 15, 2012 -> 02:30 PM) Dude hasn't played for months. The only thing that I've taken from his performance so far is he has trouble with sliders. That's my point. I'm not going to buy all the hype that his workout tape was supposed to make, i)n 1994 Michael Jordan would probably have been able to make quite a workout tape himself, and if you threw him a BP fastball he probably could hit it 450), but his numbers indicate he should be able to play a little bit, and certainly if he were game ready, he'd probably be able to put up big numbers in the DWL. Also a lot of guys making big money have problems with sliders.

2011-2012 NBA Season Thread
QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 15, 2012 -> 01:24 PM) Thibs >>>> Doug Collins Perhaps, especially for the long haul, but if you have been awful for a while, Collins' brain is one you may want to pick. He has a knack of making historically terrible teams at least playoff teams. His act may or may not get old quickly, but if I'm running the Bucks or the T Wolves, I'd hire him in a heartbeat to coach and if he doesn't want to do that anymore or gets sick of it, make him the GM, and/or team President. I always loved when he was coaching the Bulls that when the game was over, he looked like he just played 48 minutes. He would be soaked in sweat. He teaches guys how to win.

Time for Soler thread...
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 15, 2012 -> 02:19 PM) My quick judgments based of Cepedes in the DWL right now tell me I want Soler more, but I would honestly be happy with either one. These guys would be perfect for us. If the few ABs Cepedes is getting in the DWL is dropping his price by millions and making it more likely the Sox have a shot at him, I hope he fans every time up. How anyone could put that much into these few ABs would amaze me, and I hope every organization except the Sox does. I'm with you, I'd prefer both, but either one would be fine.

Time for Soler thread...
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 15, 2012 -> 12:10 PM) Well, we don't have the usual "keep him away from Walker as long as possible" posts to worry about this season. There's that. Supposedly, Cespedes hasn't played under the lights in 10 months, that was his excuse basically for the 3 strikeout game. I wouldn't be too down on him for 10 AB just like I wouldn't be too excited and offer him double what I was going to offer him if he had hit 5 homers these same 10 AB. You have to trust your scouts or get rid of them. If they say he can play right away or if they say he has holes, you offer accordingly and don't worry about anything else.

Peavy vs Ozzie
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 14, 2012 -> 09:40 PM) Peavy is 110% talk. So is Ozzie. Remember when he "benched" Rios for loafing? And Oney is an Ozzie clone mouth-wise. It will be interesting to see the response. Just keep in mind Ozzie didn't just leave with 2 games to go. He was under contract for 2012, but that wasn't good enough for him.

2011-2012 NBA Season Thread
Say what you want about Doug Collins, but he's just made another unwatchable team watchable again. I don't know if Krause and JR were incorrect about his ability to take a team from point B to point C, but is there anyone better taking a team from point A to point B? The Bulls he had Jordan, but Detroit, Washington and now Philadelphia were garbage when he took over.

Official 2011-2012 NCAA Football Thread
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 14, 2012 -> 03:21 PM) Well, no one knows anything about it yet. The Iowa City police know enough to say he won't be charged with anything. That doesn't necessarily mean he didn't do something he shouldn't have done but it could also be an indication something went on that was consensual that the girl regretted later on. That's the jist of my first post. Supposedly it happens quite often.
