  1. We will know for sure shortly. One of the main insiders will have it if it's true.
  2. Chances of Bochy passing on the White Sox for the Rangers because of state income taxes are slim to none.
  3. That doesn't matter too much. They get hit with a tax bill from stares with income tax based on days they managed there. It's pocket change to these guys.
  4. As long as we are talking weather, do you know since June 1st, it’s rained more in San Diego than Seattle?
  5. Whoever manages the Sox will most likely spend their winters in Phoenix.
  6. Unless the Sox sign Maddon, and since they haven't contacted him, it seems a Longshot, they aren't paying anyone what they paid Tony. Washington would probably command the most, but he hasn't managed in a long while and wasn't exactly manager or Man of the year the last time he made out a line up card.
  7. What is it about the Marlins current situation and their history that could possibly make them more attractive, unless you really loved 2020 and they try to recreate that experience every home game? Every team has warts. The Sox, with all of theirs, still have fewer than the others looking for a manager. And one thing you would know is the guy hiring you is going to be around no matter how long of a contract you sign.
  8. These guys live in a rental during the season. Very few actually live in their towns all year. Chicago wins every year for favorite MLB road city. Location won’t hinder the search.
  9. I’d take Chicago in the summer over Miami in the summer every time.
  10. I think strategically the actual amount of wins between a bad manager and a good one is very small. You do have to have good players to win. But, in being prepared, in being accountable. Letting things slide, that total can grow by a big chunk. The Sox were a better team when LaRussa was gone, even with the fade at the end. I'm sure they would have been better if Cairo was there all year. I think they would have been more than 2 games better if Renteria was there and had his don't run it out you sit down rule on. There are plenty of candidates I hope they don't go with, but as long as it's not Tony, it will be an upgrade. Hendriks even admitted they needed someone to kick them in the ass more often. Tony was the substitute teacher or babysitter too many took advantage of. Whether it was his HOD status making him skip steps or think that was enough to control the clubhouse, or it was age and health, it doesn't matter, he wasn't up for the job. Unless they find the next Bevington, the next guy will be an upgrade. I do doubt they will hire a guy who will be consensusly thought of as the best hire.
  11. I’d rather they hire someone else, but I do question the legitimacy of the managerial search leaving no stone unturned if they don’t at least speak to Maddon. He does have the most recent WS win compared to anyone else available. And it wasn’t long ago he was considered the guy.
  12. There is no way they would hire Thome after what Hahn said at the press conference. They may bring one of the old guys in and have him groom him, but no way. And I don’t even think Thome would so bad.
  13. Not to mention, there are a lot of players who do understand English, and can speak it a bit, but choose not to, because they fear they will sound dumb.
  14. I'm sure there are some really good coaches working for bad teams and bad managers and xice versa. Even if the Sox plan to hire one of the older more expensive guys, these types are going to be mentioned that the Sox really like if nothing else but to try to lower the price on the main target.
  15. I just don’t know how a manager is going to make Eloy reach his potential offensively, although after he came back it looked like he was well on his way. He’s probably a pretty good coach. The Yankees kept him around a long time, but if you look at the Phillies stats, they don’t have anyone really doing any more than expected. Of course you don’t have many doing way less than expected, so I would think that is a good thing. They have lost their way offensively, so maybe bringing in an “offensive” guy is the route. What they do with the rest of the staff will be important. I don’t know what kind of connections he has and what kind of coaches he could attract. I would definitely keep Katz. I know the Sox love Hassler in the bullpen, and that’s fine. Might be time to change everything else. I really don’t want the old guys, but really I am now an anyone but Tony guy.
  16. Again, if that is the reason, you can always wait until September and then commit to a 2024 package and get them. It's probably the biggest reason they were around 2 million this year, and why their attendance was higher in 2006 than 2005.
  17. When he was hired, a lot of people who can't believe the hire now were doing cartwheels. It would help if they had a better OL, and you would be able to see what you really have in Fields. The wide open gimme TD he missed hurt, but I don't know how much of the other bad stuff you can give him a lot of blame when he's basically lucky not to get knocked down every play.
  18. I think most who are not renewing probably still intend to attend some games. It's cheaper on stubhub. They have taken away most of the season ticketholder perks. My invoice is actually less than $1 cheaper. I'll hold out and see what their first moves are. Who knows, they may bring back the Ballpark Pass.
  19. Cooper Kupp has the same amount of receptions as the entire Bears roster.
  20. Plus they had to hold their noses and look the other way when thinking about the stink Ozzie left when his time was up as a White Sox player. To think this time would be different is a reach. I wouldn't mind someone giving him a shot, just not the White Sox.
  21. Ozzie seems to have matured a bit, but he walked out with a year on his contract, and then was so bad Loria paid him 3 years not to manage. He's great on the the pre and post. Let him stay there, because who knows what all that attention would do to him. Plus the baggage of Oney. No need for him to return.
