  1. The one question you have with Robert is, and it's the same question you probably have with TA, Moncada, Eloy, even Vaughn, basically the entire positon player core, can they ever make it through a season without a significant injury or 2 or 3? A competent manager, change the hitting approach, and all these guys go back to being really good, and healthy, suddenly, you have enough to make up for deficiencies elsewhere, especially in the ALC. But what are the odds?
  2. Here's a Tribune headline when GR took over White Sox get no new money from naming rights deal with Guaranteed Rate By Peter Matuszak
  3. And I think they were just basically taking over what was left of the US Cellular deal.
  4. If the Sox were going to let the new guy pick his entire staff, the current staff would all be gone right now. They are not.
  5. If Tony should never have been the Sox manager because of his DUIs, what about Ron Washington and cocaine. And wasn't he accused of sexual assault as well?
  6. Why would you think he would get to hire his own staff? Tony didn't even get to hire his own staff. Do you really think Tony had any idea who Ethan Katz was before he was approached?
  7. TV is where the money is. If it was Beckham, I bet he would go to radio and DJ would come back to TV.
  8. When he left the Sox it was a promotion to manager. The tried to bring him back after they fired Lamont after 30 or so games in 1995. Somehow they blamed that horrible start on him, and thought Terry Bevington was the better choice. After the season Leyland was available, but since the Sox s%*# on his friend they had no chance. They kept Bevington which is all you really need to know about what JR thinks managers not named Tony or Jim are worth.
  9. I don't think the broadcasters are technically employed by the team. The Sox have all the power about who is in the booth, but I don't think they are responsible for their contracts.
  10. The only issue I can see the Sox having with Bennetti is he is away a lot. Although he won't be doing the Peacock Sunday game. I would be stunned they don't bring him and Steve back. But he did question Tony more than once and JR does hold a grudge with the best of them.
  11. Some of this I can buy, but some is clearly BS. They supposedly don't want to sign a RF, buy then mentions Conforto and Nimmo. The alleged offer for Ohtani is ridiculous. Wouldn't a manager have a say in the coaching staff? If RH was going to quit, it would be done. Herm isn't coming back. And it isnt the trainer that is causing the hammys. The other stuff? It's plausible.
  12. They showed this on the news over a year ago. They were doing it right in front of cops and cops did nothing. If you drive, White Sox parking is cashless.
  13. did you see the Hahn press conference the other day? He is in no way worried about job security. In fact, he threw out there, if he didn't think he was the right person for the job he would walk away, basically saying that's the only way he will ever leave. Any way you look at it, how could he possibly conclude he is the right person for the job.
  14. The weird part is, investing and succeeding with your farm system, helps keep costs way down. You would think that would be right up the White Sox alley. Yonder Alonso 9 million, Joe Kelly 19 million,. You invest that 28 million corectly into your system instead of just pissing it away, you make it up in spades.
  15. Let Jose pinch hit late when it's a little easier to see.
  16. I just think utlimately, unless a guy like Bochy or Maddon just blows them away, JR is going to shop in the aisle that requires a Ricky Renteria type paycheck. There may be someone good there, but that is what he does. FWIW even with 3 WS titles, Bochy is below .500 with SD and SF in his career.
  17. If you look at Jose's comments during spring training, it's obvious they told him or his agent the plan. Letting him go is the right thing. He's 36, at least. Expensive, and could go downhill at any moment. Time to let Vaughn play where he is supposed to play. Sorry to see Jose go, but it's time.
  18. 79 isn't a popular number. A case can be made either way. I don't think the Sox will officially retire it, but like 13, won't let anyone wear it.
  19. I think the new shift rule next year can backfire. You can have all the infielders legal and move the LF to short RF. It's a bigger payoff if they hit it rge other way, but will have to probably have to get it in the air.
  20. We've had first time managers, managers with a lot of experience, HOF baseball person....they all make mistakes. To think there is going to be one guy who can come in here and do everything like everyone wants it to be done is silly. And they all will eventually make mistakes. They need someone who can make these guys play hard and be engaged in winning, and can run a bullpen. Bochy would be fine. I'd take Sandy in a heartbeat, although there must be some reason he never gets a job.
  21. Ozzie seemed to think he knows who its going to be. And it won't be him.
  22. Its' on CSN and the My Teams app at 4 pm. Our Chuck said so yesterday.
  23. One guy I would think about trading is Hendriks. He's been great. Love him as a person and player but................the Sox would have won the divison without him in 2021 and would have been bad, like they were, without him in 2022. He's clearly in pain pitching now. The pitch clock next year may really bother him, as he will have less recovery time. And he should be worth something.
