  1. I'm the opposite. $100 million less for Verlander, and you'll almost assuredly get more innings the first 2 years, and who knows what deGrom is a couple of years from now.
  2. If the Sox are addressing Catcher, glove first back up type should be the call. Murphy would cost too many assets, Contreras throws well but the rest of his defensive profile is not so hot, and he is expensive. And paying an aging Salvy what you would have to pay him should be a fireable offense.
  3. The Sox either need to s%*# or get off the pot. If they truly trust the talent and think 2022 was a one off, they need to add to try to win. If they want to go their normal conservative route, and not be confident in the roster they have assembled, they shouldn't be shocked when the fanbase follows their lead. 2022 sucked. But they still were .500 with a decent chance to win the division in September. That'd with LaRussa and most other things going wrong. So I don't think the situation is as dire as some who apparently think the Sox have a 65 win roster.
  4. So we can expect a higher FIP next year. Great. He had a ton of strikeouts in 2022, but he also sucked. There was one game he was only a pitch or two from an immaculate inning, and he wound up getting pulled 4 or 5 batter later. Way too many uncompetitive pitches. Followed by having to throw meatballs. All season long.
  5. If the Sox anticipated shopping anywhere but the Salvation Army, there would have been Soxfest this year. They gave away they are cowards, they also gave away they weren’t planning on doing enough that would get Soxfest attendees minds off of 2022 this winter.
  6. Maggs had an 8.0 WAR season his 3rd year in Detroit. If Vaughn is capable of 8 WAR seasons , getting rid of him before he even hits arb would cement Hahn as worst Sox GM ever, and he would be high on the all time league list.
  7. Mutual options are never exercised by both.. Basically it's a 1 year 12 million with 4 million of it deferred to after next season. The Sox will be on the hook for the additional 4 million even if they exercised it.
  8. Taillon is a 2 time Tommy Johner.
  9. Usually they come from players with no trades.
  10. I enjoyed that article. I hope it translates to wins. Even Jack and Balta would be hard pressed to complain about the plan.
  11. They seem to have some pitchers on their roster. Granted, they haven’t developed many draft picks, but they did trad for a lot of guys that thEy had in their rotation as minimum guys in Gio, Cease and Kopech. They also developed Dunning enough the Rangers gave them Lynn. We will see if Davis Martin is useful. Where the lack of develop, ent has hurt them most is the bullpen. They do have Lopez and Bummer, Bummer they drafted and developed. If Lopez is effective, you won’t want to but you will have to give the Sox credit. Every team gets some players from the outside. Hendriks has been with his paycheck. What hurts is guys like Graveman and Kelly and Deikman eat up too much money. But guys are going to get hurt. To me it was pretty obvious Crochet was just a matter of time with surgery. If they could have developed a couple of relievers, they could have saved a ton of money. But you don’t believe in developing relievers. but the fact is the have developed some really good starters. A couple basically got them 80% of their current rotation in Sale and Quintana, and Rodon developed into someone pretty, pretty, pretty good.
  12. I guess you forgot Kopech had 2 whole years off, so being part of a division champion rotation was pretty absurd. Besides, you just told us the Sox get no credit for Kopech because you don’t think he’s any good. So you are now whining about the Sox not using a pitcher you are whining about in their rotation when they won a division. You must be pretty popular at parties.
  13. Who did they waste? Crochet? What type of evidence is there that he possibly could remain healthy as a starter.
  14. He’s obviously great, but he would be my biggest red flag pitcher. He’s max effort and 35. The other older guys like Verlander and Scherzer do more pitching. His body parts have shown signs of failing. I think he’s elite for 2 years tops.
  15. Gio was pretty awesome his first 6 starts of 2022. 2.63 ERA . A ton of strikeouts. I still believe.
  16. You most be on Molly.
  17. If you look at the history of White Sox second round picks, its pretty brutal. The only guy since the drafted Terry Forster 52 years ago, who signed and has a 7.0 career WAR or higher is Bob Wickman. Second in Ryan Sweeney at 6.9. Third is Trace Thompson at 3.3. But they are due to hit on one eventually. I have no idea what teams will give up for him, but I'm guessing not a ton, so why trade a guy who may be an ace at still a reasonable price for a year, and get the comp pick? If someone wants to pay up for him, fine, because there is zero chance they re-sign him. But the move seems too obvious to me.
  18. Nice to see you were spared. It's always hard to see the images on the news when these things hit.
  19. When Jeter was doing his good bye tour, the White Sox presented him with a container of GRF dirt. I was laughing my ass off. He had to be thinking WTF? I would bet everything I own he has no idea where that little container is today. He can say landfill, but he doesn't know which one.
  20. The fact of the matter is the White Sox have only the White Sox to blame for their small market status. There are plenty of people, hopefully the next owner, who would have operated the White sox as a large market franchise, and would have been rewarded as their fanbase would have shown up. But they don't show up because the White Sox front office has a history of not showing up. The White Sox idea of "being all in" is signing Adam Dunn.
  21. He's not blocking balls anymore. He's a bad framer. Great arm. Probably calls a decent game, but he's only put up over a 2.0 WAR twice in his career, although 2020 would have been over.. Nice power, but no walks.
  22. Well that is wrong. The first year I looked up they had a top 10 attendance. The problem with using attendance and revenue is it is THEIR FAULT it is what it is. They are playing in the #3 market in the US, and their team is a redheaded stepchild even though it probably was given the easiest path to total domination when they split into 6 divisions and had the rest of the division some of the smallest revenue producing teams in the league.
  23. Eflin was who I hoped the Sox added.
  24. I’m a big Vaughn fan and think he will be much better all around as a 1B. I love Jose, but you don’t want him eating up all that budget space for declining years. One thing I have an issue with concerning Vaughn is if playing the OF caused his late season drop off, that’s on him. First, it’s not that physically demanding to play LF. C’mon man. Second, he knew he was going to be an OF, it was on him to prepare for it.Mentally, coming to the major leagues, playing out of position, is a tough ask, but physically, unless he’s playing catcher, it’s on him.
  25. I totally disagree on Gallo. He was the same when he went to LA, and the shift isn't going to change him much. He's a 3 outcome guy. If he all of a sudden starts sneaking grounders into RF, watch teams move the RF to where the 2B has been playing him in recent years and play with 2 OFs.
