Fire Rick Hahn
The list of reasons to move on from the guy is a lot longer than the list of reasons to keep him. He’s bright, no question. Seems like a nice person. But he’s just a bad GM, and if JR or KW conclude he’s actually a good GM who has been put in an impossible situation, why are they making the situation appear more impossible? It’s so messed up.

Fire Rick Hahn
Wellington Castillo. Why? Jay and Alonzo. Why? One that really chapped my ass, actually performed well but it was stupid. They pick up Joakim Soria and $8 million of his salary, to try to flip him at the deadline, because I’m guessing Chapman to the Cubs previously. Well Soria was better for the Sox than anyone could have expected, but theY were in the middle of a rebuild, why not see if you can find anyone in your system capable of being a closer. It may save you some money in the long run and failing wasn’t costing you anything. So Soria gets flipped for a minor league arm no longer in baseball and the Sox paid 5 or 6 million for this honor. Did everyone but Hahn know what Velasquez was a year ago? And I get the “3 million, 8 million is nothing “ crowd but it sure would be nice to have some of it available now.

I was watching MLBN last night and Dan ODowd was going over their payroll, anticipating a couple more additions, saying it would probably be around $340 million plus close to a $100 million tax.

The Sox aren’t signing Nimmo.

So the White Sox would have had zero money to spend if Pollock did the smart money thing and exercised his option. That’s building a sustained winner right there. And the Gavin Sheets is an Of talk just shows you how committed they are to putting a championship roster on the field. if you think about it, JRs refusal to try to dominate the division is so sad. If, instead of weaseling out last winter, they actual signed someone they wanted everyone to know they pursued, Cleveland probably trades Ramirez. The Sox play down to their competition. I still think they can win the division, but why just get by? You expect your employees to do their best every day. It’s time JR starts doing his best every day, or let someone who will take over.

Probably right, because it would be one of the dumber moves he can make.

So the argument would be he won’t get hurt because he already was hurt? Shoulder and elbow. That’s crazy.

He did make great trades for Sale, Q, and Eaton. But I do agree he has proven he shouldn’t be a MLB GM.

Clevinger is the highest profile FA the Sox will sign this off-season.

2 years of control at less than it will cost for 1 year of the free agent SS, not to mention the premium you have to pay at the back end to actually sign them. TA wasn’t very good in 2022 but still put up a 2.0 WAR in 79 games. If Montgomery was a year more developed I would entertain all offers for TA, and they would be a lot more significant than you suggest. But they can’t trade TA now. They have no replacement.

If he was a free agent, he could get more than he has left, and teams would have no problem losing the draft pick.

There you have it. Rick is hoping another teams GM will have an idea how he can help make Ricks team better.

I read a tweet a guy said he was laughing at a kid because the kid still believed In Santa Claus. Then he realized he was a Sox fan who still believed the Sox would sign a top tier FA, and realized they were no different.

I agree it’s sends an awful message, but we already know the message. The White Sox will not ever try to win at all costs. They will come up with some BS like ReyLo they never saw coming and he’s a closer…but we all know it’s money. Their sustained winning, multiple championships style never really came to be. Really lasted between 2020-2021 but not fully due to the pandemic. Looks like now they will bag it and go back to business as usual and hope one season everything can go right.

I posted a month or so ago, I love everything about the guy. He’s been great, but, if they are cutting payroll, it makes sense for a few reasons. A. As great as he’s been , the Sox would have had the same playoff result both years he has been here. B. I think his elbow is a concern. C. The pitch clock is going to give him less recovery time, and I think may really affect him.

Trea Turner to Phillies
The White Sox made it seem like if fans waited through a rebuild the days of White Sox half assing would be over and the team would spend like a team in search of multiple championships. But if you bought it, the joke is on you. Nothing has changed, and nothing ever will. Sure, the payroll is a bit higher, but, due to many front office mistakes, not high enough to win one championship unless everything goes right, and how can anyone not willing to get into luxury tax territory think they will ever have a reasonable shot at multiple championships?

The one thing all the hero GMs have in common is they work for owners who value winning over profit. Dombrowski and Theo make plenty of mistakes, but they don't have to sign Josh Harrison and Vince Valasquez in their championship windows.

Rodon to the Yankees, $162 million
I think he's doing better with his conditioning. And it's one thing owners really trust with Boras clients. He is a conditioning stickler after signing big deals.

Rodon to the Yankees, $162 million
The sad part was as fans we had to sit this fun part out for years because the team was rebuilding. Now we have to sit it out because JR has a desire to die with as much money aa possible. I sure hope Jim Thompsons heirs are in his will. The guy getting GRF built made JR billions. Could you image how bad his teams in Tampa with their 1980s approach would be with half the revenue he gets with the White Sox. Not to mention how he probably would have been forced to sell the Bulls because he would have been public enemy #1, before their dominance.

Just a comedy of unforced errors by the self proclaimed right man for the job last winter.

But how do you replace him? It would be someone not as good and more expensive.

Rodon to the Yankees, $162 million
I like Rodons chances of staying healthy for 6 years at this stage more than deGrom for 5. But it is crazy. I do bet he gets at least 5 years, and who ever gets him will get more bang for their buck than the Rangers.. The one problem is there's a decent chance Boras drags this on for a while and if you don't get him you are SOL.
