  1. It depends on the soup, and if he had crackers. If he had crackers, it could be a meal.
  2. The fact is they don’t need a second interview with Ozzie. They employed him for 8 years in the position they are filling. They have been around him several years recently. They know him a lot better than they know any other candidate Obviously JR paved the way for an Ozzie interview, and he got one. I don’t think they would hire him, but you can’t put it past them. It’s scary until it’s not.
  3. Ozzie is fun on pre and post. But if you listen, he still has no use for analytics. You want the Sox offense fixed? They don’t hit enough homers? Bring in the guy who says almost daily exit velo is overrated, and is also the guy responsible for Kotsay over Thome in 2010. It would be a similar mistake to the LaRussa mistake. Slightly better, because the inmates won’t be as heavily involved running the asylum. Tony couldn’t roll the clock back to 1983, and Ozzie can’t roll it back to 2005. Just like with Tony, if they hired Ozzie, and I still can’t believe they will, there will be a fraction of the fan base delighted. Ozzie is the White Sox Ditka. But when they don’t score, hit fewer homers, get take signs every 3-0 count, have a 2 hole hitter lead the league in sac attempts, the delight will be slapped by reality. Ozzie knows a lot about baseball. I enjoy listening to his insight. He just prefers a game that has left the building. He hasn’t embraced the modernness. He doesn’t even have to embrace it fully. Analytics have made baseball a little more boring. Everyone has the same opinion. Just keep in mind, the White Sox need to hit home runs to win. Is Ozzie the guy to accomplish that? I actually think when he managed the Sox, he ran a bullpen really well. That is important, and would be an improvement over Tony. But they still need to score. Also, they hire Ozzie and everyone blames JR is fine as long as Kenny and Rick resign. If they don’t, they are complicit. They are on board with the hire.
  4. How many guys have gone from hitting coach to manager? I can't think of any. Bench coach, pitching coach, 1st base coach, 3rd base coach, minor league manager, broadcaster, unemployed guy....yes, but never a hitting coach.
  5. That is true, but maybe they do something with the coaching staff. The fact is, they can't win if these guys don't go back to hitting homers.
  6. With the offensive struggles, it does make sense they hire an offensive guy.
  7. If Garfien said Ozzie interviewed on Monday, Ozzie interviewed on Monday.
  8. I think most of the candidates are pretty similar. Unless they do something crazy like when they brought Tony back, fixing the roster will help more than whoever they hire.
  9. Espada is clearly the best candidate, at least according to people who have never spoken to him and just know he sits next to Dusty watching the Astros win. Yet, not just the White Sox, but others are passing on him too.
  10. No one is going to be allowed to pick his staff in full. Tony wasn't able to do that.
  11. Yes. He hurt his shoulder after he turned down the QO IIRC.
  12. 17 years ago today, the White Sox won the WS.
  13. Considering they don’t play until Friday, I think we will know who it is before the WS starts.
  14. I have never been an autograph guy, but I always like Soxfest for the seminars. You could ask KW and RH their thought process. Sure there was a lot of fluff, but is was a nice event leading to spring training.
  15. One negative, he is endorsed by TLR, and even if Tony had nothing to do with the hire, a lot of people, including me, wouldn't believe he didnt.
  16. My guy would be Alomar Jr. JR,and KW love him, and he knows what is wrong with the White Sox.
  17. The way Shildt left STL, wouldn't surprise me if he is on a few do not hire lists.
  18. With only 30 of these jobs in the world, and baseball not being splitting the atom difficult, you would think they could hire a pretty spectacular manager by accident.
  19. It's the universally excepted CYA line most of these dopes use.
  20. A few on here have said for years the White Sox hate their fans. I have always laughed it off, but, while not there yet, I am getting closer to buying it. They do treat their fanbase as more of a necessary evil than any team I know.
  21. He also would not get paid anywhere near someone witha track record. That will get Hahn a contract extension.
  22. Someone needs to explain to JR that every one of his employees, were at one time, non White Sox employees. It's OK to hire from the outside.
  23. Getz could turn into the greatest manager of all time, but Hahn and the White Sox, after he laid the groundwork for the “search” in a press conference, would have zero credibility with the media and the fans. Hopefully, Rick would realize it and resign.
  24. Hahn might see Getz as the one threat to his employment. Get him in uniform, that goes away.
  25. I have defended JR on this board numerous times. But he has proven he needs to sell for several years. The exact same thing that happened with the DRose Bulls is happening right now with the White Sox. You would think a lesson or two would have been learned, but it’s all preserving a profit. If he needs the money so bad, sell the teams.
