  1. The big difference for me is since I became an adult, I get a lot of weird looks when I go trick or treating.
  2. They used to do it with 9 and 10 man pitching staffs. I wonder if the pendulum will ever swing the other way, and except for basically closers, max effort every pitch isn't emphasized as much.
  3. It is. But I'm sure he means not able to play. IL the entire year, insurance picks of at least most of the tab.
  4. Kevin Long made Kyle Schwarber? Schwarbers OPS this year was below his career OPS. He was basically just doing what he always does. Nothing wrong with liking Kevin Long. I thought he was getting the job and wasn't pissed off about it.
  5. If Kevin Long was the hitting coach of a non playoff team, he wouldn't have been a Soxtalk darling. The point is, so much is put into what team these guys are coaching, and they have very little to do with a team totally sucking. He also would probably have never be mentioned by the national guys as a candidate either.
  6. Think how crazy this is, Kevin Long was a popular Soxtalk candidate. If the Phillies did exactly the same as they did this year, but they played by 2021 rules, they don't make the playoffs, so the same guy some would be doing an Irish jig if they hired now would be bitching about settling.
  7. Think of all the teams that wouldn't hire Espada, including the Royals. Sox dodged a bullet.
  8. Yes, but before he had Covid, he was nails.
  9. If you know nothing, how do you know he's the weakest candidate?
  10. Frank is going to go, but I don't know if the lack of HR was really his philosophy or Tony's. Its what Tony told Pujols as a young player. Apparently, Tony thinks everyone can be like him. Yes, it's damning Frank was the coach with the singles teams with 2 organizations, but he also was the hitting coach when Stanton hit 59 and Ozuna hit 37, and the 2020 White Sox were cranking them out like nobody's business.
  11. I don't know how anyone can be upset. I want to hate the hire, but every little nugget on this guy is excellent. Plus doing some clean up with the coaching staff? What's not to like? Who out there is clearly better?
  12. You can say that about anyone really. Espada didn't blow anyone away. Qyuattro finally blew someone away. This guy sounds good. If Dayton Moore provided the Astros roster, this board would be going crazy over this guy.
  13. Harold Baines was the bench coach of the World Champion White Sox. How come he didn't get a managerial job?
  14. He was on the staff when KC won the WS, so he did check that box.
  15. And another point was brought up, he's interviewing for a few jobs, if he could have the White Sox job, why take the KC rebuild? There are so many assumptions based on nothing.
  16. this is an outside the box pick. He obviously did well in his interview. Not the typical right hand man for a contender. We don't know most of these guys anyway. He isn't Tony, and not part of the family, and there were several who would probably work as cheaply. Ill give him the benefit of the doubt.
  17. I was watching MLB Network and it was a Robby Thompson press conference. He was really talking up Long like he is moving on. Only one place to go.
  18. The problem with these trades is they are to good teams, so the 4th for Quinn is closer to a 5th. The 2nd for Roquan is closer to a 3rd.
  19. If they could get something for him, great. Although, he has been pretty decent this year. i don't think it will last. He seems to want to play flag football at times.
  20. Hopefully Poles can find a receiver who can actually catch a ball. But man, that defense is going to need a lot.
  21. Yet, the White Sox weren't the only team that passed. He puts people in defensive position....because he reads the report which tells them where to play.
  22. Football is a bit different. How did he do in New Orleans? Also remember Doug Flutie was on him. Chris Zorich was on him. He lost his focus and like Ozzie was all about himself and making a buck. I think there are more than a couple of guys who could have coached the 1985 Bears to a Super Bowl. Here's something more impressive, Lovie Smith coached a team QBd by Rex Grossman to a Super Bowl.
  23. What they have in common is one championship, failed for anything more even with a lot of promise. Then went elsewhere and were huge faliures.
  24. I would guess the next day they would be allowed to announce anything is the next off day.
