  1. At the very least, they could have provided a real reason instead of many factors. The Cubs having one is a bad look for the Sox. If they are afraid of fans questions and comments, they are proving they aren’t worthy of their positions.
  2. The only problem I have with Espada is the love for him is based off of nothing. He is a coach on a good team. We have no idea what his philosophies are. We have no idea what he even does all day. But this is how it goes in all sports. College and pro. The assistant on a good team or in college basketball, the head coach on a Cinderella gets to be the hot ticket. A lot of times, maybe even most, these guys fail. Sometimes they prove to be beyond worthy. For years people wanted Davey Martinez because he sat next to Joe Maddon during games. Now people don’t want Joe Maddon. People want Espada because he sits next to Dusty Baker during games. Dusty has never been praised on this board. Anyone who says they know what this guy is will not be telling you the truth. He is a mystery, but at least he isn’t LaRussa. I think the team needs a vocal guy. A guy that isn’t afraid to confront a player if they aren’t playing correctly. They don’t have to get in his face and try to embarrass him, but the point needs to get through. Enough lackadaisical play.
  3. Im pretty sure Iowa has one of the top 5 worst division 1 offenses this century.
  4. I get the thought of interviewing Ozzie is just doing him a solid, there is no interest in hiring him. But would it really be a solid? If JR isn't going to pull the trigger with him, who would? JR has recommended him for a couple of jobs. But if he hires someone else, why would anyone even consider his advice?
  5. I hope if they hire Ozzie, when they are 35-38 next year, Oney starts taunting Hahn on Twitter. I am with you though. There is no way they hire Ozzie. How can he go from not being considered in 2020 to the right guy for the job? Why wouldn’t they have brought him in as an interim when Tony left? There is zero logic. Hopefully his interview is just a ceremonial type thing.
  6. Ozzie thinks exit velo is overrated. They hire him, JR can save money, and get rid of their analytics department.
  7. Because they are stupid and shortsighted. 2005 baby. 2006-2011 be damned.
  8. No way. If he is not on board, he should quit. He did say if he felt he wasn’t the person for the job….if he keeps getting overridden, then he’s not. It’s just some made up thing where everyone sucks but Hahn. Well, the reality is, Hahn sucks just as much as JR and KW.
  9. It could be he wants too much of JRs money in the Sox opinion, . It could be he now has his heart set on getting the Astros job. He’s from Florida, maybe the Marlins job is more appealing. It could be the Sox wanted to negotiate and he said let’s hold up a while, so the Sox got butt hurt. It could be some red flag popped up. Or it could be the whole thing was fake, and he wasn’t going to be the White Sox guy all along. It’s easy to say he is who Hahn wants but Hahn is being overridden, but that’s probably not accurate. I don’t really know. It is interesting how this guy, as Dusty Bakers bench coach, the same Dusty Baker who if you read this board over the years, and based everything on its consensus opinion, would conclude Dusty isn’t a world beater in the dugout, is now head and shoulders above everyone. Just remember, this guy was also once a coach for a bad team. Unless he knows how to draft and develop players, he isn’t going to bring the Astros to the Southside.
  10. How many dissippointing seasons did the Sox have when Ozxie managed them previously? I wonder if that can be a consideration.
  11. I don't know why anyone would want to get rid of Katz. He made Giolito a guy where a 5.00 ERA is a disaster. He made Rodon and Cease Cy Yoing types. He made Lopez useful. If a pitcher has talent, there's a decent chance this guy has as good of shot as any to get it out of them.
  12. We will know for sure shortly. One of the main insiders will have it if it's true.
  13. His wiki page has bought the rumor.
  14. Chances of Bochy passing on the White Sox for the Rangers because of state income taxes are slim to none.
  15. That doesn't matter too much. They get hit with a tax bill from stares with income tax based on days they managed there. It's pocket change to these guys.
  16. As long as we are talking weather, do you know since June 1st, it’s rained more in San Diego than Seattle?
  17. Whoever manages the Sox will most likely spend their winters in Phoenix.
  18. Unless the Sox sign Maddon, and since they haven't contacted him, it seems a Longshot, they aren't paying anyone what they paid Tony. Washington would probably command the most, but he hasn't managed in a long while and wasn't exactly manager or Man of the year the last time he made out a line up card.
  19. What is it about the Marlins current situation and their history that could possibly make them more attractive, unless you really loved 2020 and they try to recreate that experience every home game? Every team has warts. The Sox, with all of theirs, still have fewer than the others looking for a manager. And one thing you would know is the guy hiring you is going to be around no matter how long of a contract you sign.
  20. These guys live in a rental during the season. Very few actually live in their towns all year. Chicago wins every year for favorite MLB road city. Location won’t hinder the search.
  21. I’d take Chicago in the summer over Miami in the summer every time.
  22. I think strategically the actual amount of wins between a bad manager and a good one is very small. You do have to have good players to win. But, in being prepared, in being accountable. Letting things slide, that total can grow by a big chunk. The Sox were a better team when LaRussa was gone, even with the fade at the end. I'm sure they would have been better if Cairo was there all year. I think they would have been more than 2 games better if Renteria was there and had his don't run it out you sit down rule on. There are plenty of candidates I hope they don't go with, but as long as it's not Tony, it will be an upgrade. Hendriks even admitted they needed someone to kick them in the ass more often. Tony was the substitute teacher or babysitter too many took advantage of. Whether it was his HOD status making him skip steps or think that was enough to control the clubhouse, or it was age and health, it doesn't matter, he wasn't up for the job. Unless they find the next Bevington, the next guy will be an upgrade. I do doubt they will hire a guy who will be consensusly thought of as the best hire.
  23. I’d rather they hire someone else, but I do question the legitimacy of the managerial search leaving no stone unturned if they don’t at least speak to Maddon. He does have the most recent WS win compared to anyone else available. And it wasn’t long ago he was considered the guy.
  24. There is no way they would hire Thome after what Hahn said at the press conference. They may bring one of the old guys in and have him groom him, but no way. And I don’t even think Thome would so bad.
  25. Not to mention, there are a lot of players who do understand English, and can speak it a bit, but choose not to, because they fear they will sound dumb.
