  1. QUOTE(G&T @ May 18, 2007 -> 01:39 PM) Walk for Iguchi. 1st and 2nd Iguchi goes from batting 9th to batting 5th. No wonder the Sox suck against LHP.
  2. QUOTE(Balance @ May 18, 2007 -> 01:37 PM) Good speed aboard.... If Hall was catching for the Cubs, I might send him.
  3. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ May 18, 2007 -> 01:05 PM) yea...comcast sux.. wish hawk and dj were on wgn today. you could always listen to Kermit the frog on WGN with Brenly.

    Ozzie

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ May 18, 2007 -> 10:28 AM) Ozzie don't take no crap. North is crap. Maybe he is, but he's the main guy on the White Sox flagship, and does have a good relationship with JR. Sometimes its just better to keep your mouth shut, or if you have a problem with him, call him when he's not on the air. Its not surprising Ozzie is a big fan of the Jerry Springer Show.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ May 18, 2007 -> 10:11 AM) Protecting his players. He's very protective, you know that. I think Brandon McCarthy and Brian Anderson would disagree with you.

    Ozzie

I just don't understand why the White Sox let the media bother them so much. What did Ozzie think he would accomplish by calling in and arguing on the air?

    Ozzie

QUOTE(fathom @ May 18, 2007 -> 09:49 AM) If you're going to play a catcher who can't throw, there's probably no better guy to have on the mound than Buehrle. He either picks guys off or they get a HUGE jump against him. I'm not one to defend Ozzie, but if this was legit, then I have no problem with him going off on Mike North. Hall also could catch for Contreras, because Johnny Bench in his prime couldn't gun down any runners when he's pitching. After seeing Hall throw 2 weeks ago, its amazing to me he's playing at all. He really couldn't throw Konerko out on a pitchout back then. He must have improved greatly.
  8. QUOTE(Texsox @ May 17, 2007 -> 07:02 PM) We've brought up guys for this same series before. McCarthy. He did pretty well too. A windblown homer beat him.
  9. I'd like to throw Gio out there for 4 or 5 innings. He'd probably walk the world, but it may be interesting.
  10. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ May 15, 2007 -> 09:44 PM) What B.S. Why was the game called? They easily could have gotten this one in. Was getting updates from a friend at the game and people were wondering why they weren't playing. He said they easily could have started at 7:30. I was there and this is the most ridiculous postponement I have ever witnessed. I had no hat. I had no umbrella, I watched most of the Bulls game from my seat exposed to all elements, and while I was a little damp, if you looked at me, you would have no idea I was out in a 2 hour rain delay. In fact, you would not be able to tell I was in the rain for 2 minutes. If they started at 7:30, the game would not have been delayed. The clubbies were dumping the gatorade coolers about 45 minutes before Gene Honda announced the postponement, which occurred at around 9:15, about the time they said the rain would stop. It was not raining at all when said announcement was made. Its also suspiciously about the same time beer sales would end and the hot dog stands would shut down had the game started on time. When we left, 1 minute after the announcement, the Yankees were already on their bus. I also have a problem with having the make-up date the next day. This isn't Wrigleyville, Sox fans have to go to work. QUOTE(Scwible @ May 15, 2007 -> 09:50 PM) Moron. They were actually a trio.
  11. Its probably DeRosa of the Cubs. Same position, finger problems
  12. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 15, 2007 -> 07:29 AM) I have this thing against people who beat up women... No thanks. I agree. Wifebeaters don't do anything for me either.
  13. Even though he has no hits, the Sox are 4-2 in Molina's starts I believe. I think his lack of offense is being overblown as far as wins and losses so far, but obviously it will take its toll after a while.Toby Hall could be Joe DiMaggio at the plate, and if he caught today, the Sox still would have lost.
  14. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ May 13, 2007 -> 04:44 PM) Where's our Mexican League Nick Masset? He certainly hasn't been the stud KW and Steve Stone made him out to be. He's walking a lot of guys. White Sox starters have pitched at least six innings in 20 or 21 straight games. The bullpen should be rested and strong, but most seem to be really struggling. Aarsdma has done pretty well, but everyone else seems a little shaky almost everytime they take the mound. The offense is going to have to pick it up though. I really believe the offense will explode soon, but I must admit the longer this drought goes on, it starts to make we wonder.
  15. I think Uribe is going to have a huge season some year. There are only 2 AL SS with more RBI than him since 2004. The thing with him is, he will go into a slump eventually. That's when you move him out of the 2 hole. Iguchi is really struggling. Last year I mentioned trading him because something about him says to me when he falls apart, its going to be quick. When I was walking my dog around the field yesterday, Iguchi was in the dugout, and he's a lot thicker in person than he is on television. I think the extra weight has zapped some of his range. This could be his last year with the White Sox. I wouldn't be surprised if KW went after Grudz eventually. He can grind with the best of him.
  16. Garland was able to hold the great Ross Gload in check. That was the key to the game.
  17. QUOTE(RME JICO @ May 10, 2007 -> 05:27 PM) There was an interesting comment made about B-Mac today by the Yankees radio commentators. While B-Mac was pitching, they brought up the trade and said that normally you have to wait a few years before assessing the trade, but it looked like the Sox got the better end of the deal right now. The interesting part - They also discussed how they felt that the White Sox might have actually pumped up B-Mac's value by saying he was untradeable and that he was going to be in the rotation in 2007, etc, etc. So if you look back, he has all those great starts late in 2005, but then is relegated to the bullpen in 2006? If the Sox were so high on him, why bring in Vazquez? They mentioned how the Dodgers used to do this all the time. They would actually only allow pitchers to face certain hitters to make them seem better than they actually were. So what do you think? Did the Sox artificially inflate the value of BMac up until the trade? I know you are not going to do anything to lower the value of any of your players, but some of the Sox actions seem to point towards this scenario. I don't buy it. I was at Soxfest prior to the 2005 season, before McCarthy had the dominant spring training and before he ever threw one pitch in the major leagues. Rick Hahn said back then about a guy probably half the room had never even heard of that he would "bring back a king's ransom" in a trade. Its funny the Yankee announcers are popping off but their team with a payroll doubling everyone elses gets to BMac for 1 run. The guy had a couple of tough starts, but he's going to be a good pitcher. He showed many flashes of that with the White Sox.
  18. First off, there is no way Ozzie is going anywhere unless he says something really stupid, or he quits. He actually had a very mature comment about drinking in the clubhouse the other day. I question his strategy quite often. I actually missed most of yesterday's game. I saw it when it was 4-1 and then when it was tied. As far as removing Vazquez, I don't think anyone should have a problem with that. He cruises along a lot, but when he loses it, it goes fast. The bullpen is for the most part, very inexperienced, and most have had control issues most of their careers. Aardsma wouldn't have been available if he had total command of his pitches. If Sisco could put the ball where he wanted, Ross Gload wouldn't have been close to enough to bring him over here. These guys are going to be awful some nights. I was pretty stunned this winter when the bullpen was assembled reading the board. It appeared the consensus was everyone throws 95+ and will be unhittable. I really was trying to figure how that could be projected. Melton was on after the game and made an interesting observation. Even when they are not giving up runs, a few of the bullpen guys are really struggling, and that will take its toll eventually. For my money though the reason the Sox lost last night, and the reason they are not undefeated this year is because of Greg Walker. I think if the Sox had any other hitting coach, Bud Selig would probably have given JR the permission to print playoff tickets about 10 days ago.
  19. QUOTE(danman31 @ May 9, 2007 -> 02:54 PM) I disagree. It's a crapshoot as is, but when you are trading the picks ahead of time and don't have a clear picture of who would even be available at the pick, it's just not worth it. If traded during the previous July deadline, a 1st round pick would have the value of a mid-level prospect. Especially considering the teams trading a draft pick in July would more than likely be buyers and their draft picks would not be top 15 where you are getting the more sure things of the draft. Also, who is going to want to wait for a traded pick to turn into something? Even the quickest guys to make the majors (other than the guys like Lincecum, Huston Street, Chad Cordero, or Khalil Greene. There's maybe 2 of those per draft and not outside the top 15) take a few years so teams would be waiting 4+ years for a player, and that's if he was a highly developed player in the draft, and actually does develop. Most teams wouldn't want to wait 4+ years for someone they have little idea who it is (or really even position). The only way I could see it working would be if teams were limited to pick for pick(s) trades on the day of the draft. Even then, most teams wouldn't want to give up 2 for 1, but I could see it happening. In order for trading picks to work the draft would have to become more of a sure thing or development time would have to be significantly less. If players were required to go to college and the 3 year minimum was maintained I could see it possibly making sense, but that's still assuming a lot. In a fantasy world if teams were able to draft players out of, say, low A ball then I could also see it working. As a sidenote, I would be a big fan of making players go to college. It would make longevity records harder to break because less freaks of nature would be able to debut at 20 or 21, but if the college game became stronger it would almost be like drafting out of the minors. The argument can be made that the top conferences in D1 ball are comparable to A ball of some sort, but another problem is the players need to adjust to not having aluminum bats. If they make college players use wood bats it could cut almost a year of development off of college players. For any sort of college requirement to take place MLB would have to work with the NCAA anyway. Back to the original point, yes, it would be cool as a fan to give teams the ability to trade draft picks, but I don't think it would be better for the game. I think it would be good for the game. Low revenue losing teams would be able to get known commodities for their question marks, which these days cost a lot of money. Or if they have an aging veteran and a team needs a little help, they can pick up a draft pick. I still don't know why the player's union wouldn't allow slotting on signing bonuses. Drafts shouldn't be based mostly on signability, besides if they slotted the bonuses and kept them reasonable, there would be more money to go towards established players. I think it makes the draft more interesting. It is a crapshoot, but a significant number of picks in the double digit rounds make it. At least its not like the NBA where if you are picking at the end of the first round and have nothing really any good available and you have a strong team, you have to give a multi-year guarantee to a stiff.
  20. Maybe they are tired from the long spring training schedule.
  21. You pitch to Justin Morneau, yet walk a guy like Punto earlier. Does anyone really think Ozzie Guillen is a genius still.
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ May 8, 2007 -> 10:20 PM) Nice sequence by Masset. Gotta hope Morneau hits it hard at someone. He did, unfortunately is was to the guy in the $5 seats in the upper deck.
