  1. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 07:34 PM) 1/2 of that is probably due to Ozzie's distribution of days off. Podsednik is also 6 years older than Sizemore. I think every GM in baseball would trade Pods for Sizemore. I think every GM in baseball would trade Pods for Sizemore if Sizemore were 6 years older. He is a better player.
  2. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 07:33 PM) Pods hit a homer yesterday? He tripled
  3. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 07:32 PM) Sizemore also has about 135 more plate appearances than Podsednik....doesn't account for all of those, but accounts for some of the difference. Shouldn't durability be considered when determining the worth of a player?
  4. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 07:26 PM) That is strictly a product of the guys behind you. Then if the guys behind you can't drive you in, aren't you better off with a leadoff hitter with a higher slugging percentage? Aren't stolen bases pretty worthless if they don't lead to runs?
  5. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 07:24 PM) A lot of players 3b hits come because of the ballpark they play in...the more nooks & crannies in the outfield, the more 3b hits you get. The Cell doesn't have any of them. Therefore, I consider triples to be a terrible stat to compare between different teams. It may be but half your games are on the road. One triple from Pods is surprising to me. I thought he have several more. He can drive the ball if he wants to.
  6. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 07:23 PM) Well I said if you care about slugging Sizmore is your man. I don't care about it as much from a leadoff man. I'm not saying I wouldn't take Sizemore. He's younger, but as leadoff men in that responsibility, theres not much diff. What about the other 3 or 4 times in a game he's not leading off?
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 07:09 PM) 6-4 after the 3rd inning. Pods error likely cost Garcia a run. [COLOR=green]But Hawk and DJ said Pods shouldn't be charged with an error. It laughable how some players on this team can do no wrong with the broadcasters.
  8. The Sox look like they are 15 under .500 and playing out the string.
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 09:12 PM) I liked this team a lot better when Crede was on the DL. He has so many long stretches of being a totally worthless baseball player.
  10. Can someone tell me why I am staying up for this?
  11. QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 09:09 PM) Gotta be tough playing in front of 272 fans Making an average of $2.5 million a year should make it easier.
  12. What is the longest a team has been in first place without finishing there?
  13. Anytime the White Sox offense feels like showing up would be fine by me.
  14. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 08:52 PM) Its nice to see everyone going for the fence. What happened to the line drive, what happened to not rolling your wrists over all the time. They sent Marte home. Now the chemistry is perfect. They can't lose.
  15. The White Sox definitely don't have a bounce in their step or a swagger. This is KC for crying out loud. They look like they are asleep. Ozzie wanted to get away from Chicago to get away from the panic, but his team looks like they are getting more than a little uncomfortable with their dwindling lead.
  16. Kudos to Al Lopez' ghost who did break this story correctly after Sunday's game. No media outlet reported Marte had been thrown off the team, not even Bruce Levine.
  17. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 05:29 PM) So thenw hy all the drama? I think Ozzie and KW are upset that Marte hasn't been very revealing about his injuries. But even then, this doesn't make sense. How do you go from being called the top lefty in the bullpen by the manager after you stink up the joint against KC, to being kicked off the team after hitting 2 guys? Marte just doesn't seem to be the type of person to go off on anyone. Maybe he did. He couldn't have said anything more to Ozzie than Frank Thomas screamed at Manuel a couple of years ago, and Frank never was asked to go home. I think it may simply being a case of Ozzie concluding that Marte isn't his type of guy, and just not wanting him around anymore. I suppose its his perrogative, but if winning is what truly mattered here, I would think having Marte take a little rest, get some treatment and start throwing again in 10 days or so could be the cure for what ails him. See what he's like in 10-15 days. If he can't perform then declare him dead.
  18. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 05:25 PM) Dick, this is my point......... If Ozzie was using Marte so much these last few months, then obviously he feels/felt that he was a valuable piece to this team. That begs the question, why would Ozzie kick him off the team for something stupid like showing up late? Im not a big fan of Ozzie at all, however in this case, I think Martes shy guy attitude needs to be looked at closer..... Personally, I think Marte is hurt.
  19. QUOTE(beck72 @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 05:11 PM) Saying Ozzie "ruined" Marte is pretty farfetched. Marte didn't throw the ball like he did in the past, for whatever reason. A pitching coach has far more chances to "ruin" a pitcher. Ozzie, like the rest of us, just care about the results. And the results haven't been there. Instead of attacking hitters, he looks like he's going around them. But to blame that on Ozzie?! Doesn't make sense to me. But one thing is for sure, there's more to the story behind the scenes. I'm not necessarily blaming Ozzie. But if you give him the credit for Garland, I think it would only be fair to give him some of the blame for Marte. The only issue I have with Ozzie's use of Marte is he really seemed to overwork him. When he came back from the DL against Cleveland I believe, Ozzie had him in the game or warming up for six or seven games in a row. Give the guy a break, he is coming back from a sore arm. And if Ozzie just cared about the results, how come he was using Marte before Cotts up until he basically kicked Marte off the team? Cotts has been far more effective. As far as what goes on between the two of them off the field, I have no idea. It just doesn't seem like Marte could have done something that would warrant a suspension for the rest of the season.
  20. I'd like to see Rowand hit second, Iguchi third, Konerko, Dye, Everett,AJ,Uribe,Crede
  21. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 04:56 PM) "Choo know, eets all about chemistry. I would do n-e-thing for mi guyz. That is, unless they name is Ross Gload, Damaso Marte, Carlos Lee, Magglio Ordonez..." That's right. Hawk always gives Ozzie a lot of the credit for Garland's success. I think if you give him that credit, you have to say he has absolutely ruined Marte. Marte was one of the most dominating relief pitchers in baseball before Ozzie took over. He seems to be very quiet. Sometimes loudmouths like Ozzie make guys with Marte's type of personality very uncomfortable.
  22. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 04:32 PM) Oz gets ripped on ALOT(some fair, some not) however, for as much as Ozzie used Marte, there is no way he would put him on the DL or suspend him for the rest of the year in a playoff race for showing up late. There is ALOT more to this story that we just dont know, simple as that. And if there is a lot more why was Ozzie using him in crucial situations last week instead of Cotts? Ozzie stated last week Marte was their top left hander in the bullpen. I don't know what happened, but if all he did was show up late and/or failed to disclose an injury, making Sanders your #2 lefty out of the bullpen is a silly price to pay. Marte is a pretty quiet guy. I doubt he has many enemies on the team. I think giving him a couple of weeks to get healthy may be smart. Just to throw him a way, to me, is Ozzie and KW's ego working into overdrive.
  23. QUOTE(skidoochic @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 12:31 PM) Hope it ok to post this here, but I was just curious if anyone here has actually won or knows someone who won a jersey on Win-A-Jersey Wednesday? I haven't and I don't but I did see the winners lined up out front of the US Cellular store down the left field line a few weeks ago.
