What is the earliest they will call the game?
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ May 12, 2005 -> 09:57 PM) Wouldn't that be forfeiting the game then? You are at the feet of your schedule, you can't just say, I don't want to play today. Especially considering they don't have a game the day after Sunday and they are playing in KC Tuesday. That means they have to play. I don't think they could just play the makeup game/s at Baltimore because that would be loss of revenue and 1 more away game than they were supposed to have. If US Cellular is undergoing major weather problems, they would have to play it on a neutral site if anything. Just like FLA last year. No they have the right to refuse to play, but if they think the game would be made up in Baltimore, they have another thing coming. For one thing the series at Baltimore is already a 4 gamer, and the White Sox aren't going to agree to give up a home date. If a game got washed out, the Orioles would have to fly into Chicago on a mutual off day at some point during this season. The only reason I can think of that they would rather do that than play a DH on Sunday is that Sosa isn't with them so they don't consider themselves at full strength. Other than that, I think their decision is very foolish. It does look like they will be able to get all the games in anyway.

Tony Pena to the Sox???
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ May 12, 2005 -> 09:10 AM) He needs to be bench coach. He would actually make a damn good manager, he just didn't have players in KC. Doesn't seem like they want to keep their good players either minus Mike Sweeney. Hopefully Tony could knock some sense into Ozzie if he does come in here, like brining in your 3 worst relievers into a tie ballgame. One of the biggest criticisms of Pena, and this dates back to their miracle beginning of 2003, was his handling of pitchers. There was an espn.com writer who said even when the Royals were in first place that Pena should be fired.

What is the earliest they will call the game?
Regardless of how many people actually show up, they have a lot of tickets sold for tonight's game, and will do anything possible to get the game in. If it does get called, it would probably be very late tonight.

Everett's Sore Leg.....
If Everett has sore legs as a DH, forget about his poor defense, but how long could he possibly last playing the field when Thomas gets back?

Burke to Charlotte, Giambi Released
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 11, 2005 -> 10:24 PM) Wasn't the whole reason for signing him a favor to his agent Art Tellem to help us with the Frank negotiations at the end of the season? It might have been a favor to Tellem, but that would never have affected the negotiations with Frank. Tellum and JR have a very good relationship. It was JR who recommended Tellem to Frank.

Do you think everyone will remember where they were and what they were doing 25 years from now when asked about the time Konerko and Dye had back to back hits?

Brazelton can't throw a strike to save his life when Pablo is on first base.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 11, 2005 -> 01:12 PM) The Pirates just released Benito Santiago, and he was making over $2 million. If the f***in Pittsburgh Pirates can cut that much money, we can cut half. Why not bring up Anderson as the 4th OF? He can honestly not do much worse. The Royals are paying most of his salary.

Timo getting picked off likely didn't cost the White Sox any runs. With Konerko striking out, Dye would have had to get a hit to score anymore. Very unlikely.

Let this pitcher hang himself. He's given up 9 homers in 36 innings. I believe either Iguchi, Rowand or Konerko will go deep this time through the line-up.

QUOTE(mreye @ May 11, 2005 -> 12:38 PM) Why? This lineup can't win? Why watch? Why are you reading the play by play here if you already know the outcome? Maybe because he's a fan. Read his posts. They are consistently as intelligent and accurate as any on this board.

Dye as a DH is a joke. Giambi is hitting .195 and they are contemplating sending him to the minors. Dye is hitting .194 and he bats 5th as the DH.

Scrubs vs Sox
Doesn't anyone know? The Cubs and their fans don't care at all about their series with the White Sox or about the White Sox at all. It is White Sox fans who have the fascination with the Cubs.

The "Jermaine Dye Support Group"
QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ May 10, 2005 -> 03:30 PM) Sign me up!! Dye is a notorius slow starter and has been showing signs of life on the offense...needs to step up the defense though... He is not a notoriously slow starter. April has been one of his better months of his career. Check his splits. He hasn't been a very good player for several years, and now his defense appears to be in freefall. Thank God the White Sox have a decent replacement in the minors. Next year Dye will be worse than Jason Giambi currently is.

Charges to br filed in Zion murders
QUOTE(mreye @ May 10, 2005 -> 10:44 AM) I hope to God it's not the Father. It appears it is the father who "found" them who will be charged. The guy just got out of jail in Texas last month. If he did it and there is any justice in the world..............

So....what did you think of Robin?
Its really hard to expect someone with no broadcasting experience or training to walk in and be exceptional behind the microphone. Many broadcast teams have to work several years before they are comfortable with each other. Color commentators jobs are easier when they have an experienced PBP man to set them up with opportunities to analyse. Having DJ do PBP with the little experience he has with that doesn't help the Boy Wonder, or the Pope. I thought they both have done fine. Neither probably will ever be broadcasters. I do think DJ has improved dramatically as an analyst.

Saying goodbye to Jamie Burke?
Burke has cleared waivers at least twice the last 6 months, maybe 3 times. Chances are he will again, and his choices will be playing in Charlotte, signing a minor league contract with another team, or retiring.

The way DJ and Robin have been talking, you'd think Nomo has Garland's numbers this season. The guy has been brutal.

Olivo benched
I'd take Olivo back in a heartbeat. He was crushed when he got traded from here. I don't think he ever got over it.

Saying goodbye to Jamie Burke?
QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ May 9, 2005 -> 02:46 PM) You lose your waiver priority then. The Blue Jays are a good example though I'm not sure if Burke is their type of player. But based on last season's record they probably have a high waiver priority. You typically want to spend that in August where teams still try to work our trades using the waiver wire. The rules are a little different then & waiver priority is a much bigger deal then. If you claim him now you will drop to the end of the priority list. So it would make more sense to work out a new deal with a player you know is going to refuse assignment then to claim him off waivers. What do you mean by waiver priority? I always thought the team with the worse record has priority. I think last year's record is out the window for this year since the season is more than 30 days old. Are you sure you move to the end of the line if you claim a player? I don't think that is true.

Saying goodbye to Jamie Burke?
QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ May 9, 2005 -> 02:08 PM) The rest of the article stated that he will consider offers from other teams. It sounds like he's leaning towards refusing assignment if he clears waivers. If he refuses assignment I believe he gives up his remaining salary & becomes an UFA. I believe he has the right to talk to teams while being on the waiver list so it's possible he can work out a deal for more $ then. Burke probably isn't worth a team giving up it's waiver priority but he's certainly worth signing as a UFA. I thought he played well for the White Sox when given the chance & I wish him the best of luck with a new team (with the exception of the Twinkees). Just curious, why would a team give him more money than he's making now instead of just claiming him and assuming his present contract?

Upcoming Tampa Series with Ventura?
Considering he really has no experience, and didn't have much time to prepare, I thought the Pope did a good job. Obviously, if you put him up against people who do that for a living, he's not that impressive, but I thought for a fill in on very short notice he was fine.

Kevin Walker & Harris recalled; Lopez, Burke down
QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 8, 2005 -> 05:59 PM) Marte always dangles his arm before throwing a pitch. Or did you mean he was shaking his arm in a different way? When he was warming up in the bullpen, after he threw a pitch he would shake his left arm pretty hard. Either he does that to loosen up, or he has some pain he is trying to shake off. I'm sure if its the latter, the team doesn't think its serious enough to hold him out of the game, so its probably nothing.
