  1. It would depend on what else was available and what the cost was. Kimbrel is great. Could the Cubs have still won with a closer that didn’t cost so much? Probably. But it would have come down to who was available. No question this helps the Sox this year, but there are several baseball executives quoted, who get paid to evaluate talent and not sing insurance jingles, who claim the Cubs killed it with this trade.
  2. If Steve was correct, no one would ever make a bad trade, yet somehow, everyone does. The Sox are going to wish they had Madrigal down the road, but for this season the back of the bullpen couldn’t be more stacked. Hopefully the injured guys come back and this team can catch the ball well enough and score enough runs to wins some playoff series.
  3. There is no way Kimbrel and Hendriks are both on the roster next year.
  4. So does this mean since the Cubs allegedly had their choice between Madrigal and Crochet, that Crochet is garbage? Just remember, these are the same guys who traded Tatis JR. and Semien. Stone isn’t ever going to blast the White Sox on a trade. He likes his job.
  5. Trade him for the 222-22-22 guys.
  6. They should have another trade deadline at the Winter Meetings, this is too much fun. That, and waive any type of compensation on Free agents who sign before the Winter Meetings.
  7. I thought about not cischek when the board was broken once this trade was announced. No one reads these boards anymore.
  8. He actually started to regain his form the last month of last season. I remember Kaplan saying the Sox should trade for him before they signed Hendriks. He said it would cost almost nothing in prospects and the Cubs might eat some cash.
  9. Chances are he won't be on the White Sox next year. I don't like the trade. Igelsias would have been fine with me, and keep Madrigal. But there is no way Hendriks and Kimbrel are both on the team next season.
  10. I'm guess if Crochet is the price, they aren't paying much of Kimbrel's salary,
  11. At least for this year, the Sox starters and back end of the bullpen are going to be nails.
  12. Or pick up the option and trade him for prospects or other needs.
  13. Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if the Sox checked, but chances are you will win money if you bet the Sox don't get Kimbrel.
  14. Crochet is weird to me. His numbers are good. His k-rate is more than fine. But every time he comes in, I'm a little nervous.
  15. With Kimbrel, you can get at least a portion of what you gave up back in the offseason. I really don't care which one of these guys they get, just get one, or maybe a starter, and maybe a catcher. Looks like they may be giving a couple of those away in the next couple of hours.
  16. That's automatic. I'm sure they can pick it up anyway.
  17. Might work out fine, but a tight spot to put a guy into since he hasn't done it before. Hendriks, Kopech, Bummer, if they can get Fry or Kimbrel, even if Heuer doesn't get it together, the bullpen should be OK during the postseason with more off days than the regular season.
  18. Kimbrel isn't a bad deal. If he sucks, you just let him go. If he's nails, you pick up the option and trade him in the offseason
  19. JR is looking under his mattress for international bonus money to give the Cubs.
  20. Getting a catcher, just in case, makes a lot of sense. Right now, they take Zavala's spot. In a couple of weeks when Yas is back, you could send Collins to Charlotte for 2 weeks and call him up in September.
