On the bright side, the team should still be really good. I just wish they were aggressive. You trade 6 years of Dunning for 1 year of Lynn, you would think time is of the essence. Hendriks was an aggressive signing, but Eaton was a compromise, and who knows what else. I am really scared about the pitching.

I really have no idea why anyone actually thought they would sign Cruz for what he would cost. They got you again.

How much better than Leury Garcia is Martin Gonzalez?
-
Stormin' Norman was pretty good as well.

Twins sign Simmons to 1-year/$10.5MM deal
Dick Allen replied to Holes in my Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He is better than Polanco, but Simmons has regressed a little bit defensively. -
If the White Sox expect sustained success and multiple championships, they are going to get stuck with bad contracts. Every team that has been what they are striving to be has had that issue. They have to accept the fact that it will happen, and also anticipate it when determining budgets.
-
Or you could trade Cruz to an NL team next year, assuming they have a DH . If JR wants him bad, he is not anticipating a drop off. So I don't know why a 2 year commitment would be a big deal. Frankly, I think they should have spent the money either on Springer or some more pitching. But 40 year old DH with the best 1B prospect in the game who is blocked in the organization? OK.
-
The thing is, Hector's original tweet would not be wrong if Cruz signed with someone other than the Twins, even if it wasn't the White Sox. It would be good news for White Sox fans. One thing I don't understand is Cheesy Beef is insinuating JR really wants Cruz. If he wanted him really bad, he'd be signed by now.
-
Yes but during the next offseason the Sox were going to sign him for a song, but Ozzie wanted a rotating DH instead of a HOFer. So the Sox got Kotsay.
-
I think it was cameras filming the workouts. The White Sox did not participate. I don't know if that meant they did not get access to other teams that did.

No. All the stories are BS. I suppose there may be a couple of them where they took something over the counter that contained something they shouldn't have injested, but 99% know exactly what they are doing, or are paying someone who does.
-
Because the story is BS. I got sick and lost 40 lbs, so I roided up. OK. Do you think the Rangers knew that? I wonder if Hector can vouge for him.
-
Not as pathetic as his. By the time I was properly diagnosed and treated, I had lost 40 pounds. Just weeks before I was to report to spring training in 2012, I was unsure whether I would be physically able to play. Faced with this situation, I made an error in judgment that I deeply regret, and I accept full responsibility for that error. I should have handled the situation differently, and my illness was no excuse.
-
Sure, but Cruz's excuse was maybe the worst of all time.

Signing Robert. Trading Q, Sale and Eaton. If not for the trade capital they had, this team would be horrible for a long time. Not many teams had what they had to trade when going into a rebuild.
-
Maybe not but I was reading up on Taillon a week or so ago, and he is about ready to go. He has new mechanics and has shortened his motion a la Giolito. Not to the extent of Lucas, but shortened it notheless. He does have #3 or #2 upside and is only making around $3 million with at least one more year of control. I would have liked to see the Sox send a few of their lesser prospects. This guy is probably a good bet to give you the same amount of innings as Garrett Richards in 2021, and if all went well could slide into Lynn's spot in 2022, all for not much cash. It's really no big deal to me, but I think there may have been an opportunity there.

I'm surprised Tony didn't insist they sign Eck to close. -

It happens all the time. Sox may sign Machado. Maybe Harper. Maybe both. Or Jon Jay and Kelvin Herrera. That is why we are the Wiley Coyote. We fall for it every time -

I am sure everyone would be, but if it was considered likely by the industry, he would be out of the White Sox price range. -

Good luck k with that. There is no question, unless there are a lot of injuries, the White Sox are going to be a good, fun team in 2021. But face it , this offseaon, just like most others. We are the Wiley Coyote of fanbases. -
This is reas. They gave up their 15th ranked. 19th ranked, 23 rd ranked and unranked for a guy with a lot of questions, but a ton up upside.

Trade Whispers - Starting Pitchers

That costs money. Might as well get the production for minimum or close for a few years. -

The world champion Nationals in 2019 had Brian Dozier at 2B. He put up a1.6 WAR. -
I would let them have their choice between Adolfo and Rutherford, and some other fodder.

You could make the case it was OK if he helps them win at least one playoff series as that could help them moving forward. If not, it was taking a shot and failing.
