  1. The Miami Heat are using Covid sniffing dogs checking their fans as the come in. Supposedly they have a 94% accuracy rate. This could be a game changer and get at least limited fans into parks fairly soon.
  2. If Portillos is right, Mathis wouldn’t be a bad option. He can’t hit at all, but he calls a great game and is a really good framer. Guys that hit like pitchers usually don’t have careers as long as his unless they are pitchers. If he makes the team, you can go with 3 catchers if you need to.
  3. I think he was talking about Rodon. Hamels was good in 2019. The problem is he had a shoulder issue in 2020, that still isn’t fully healed. And now he is 37. If everything went right, he could provide what the team needs, but he is going to cost more than Rodon.
  4. The good news is we know it’s there. Remember when he dominated the intrasquad game, and we were putting him in the HOF? He gets some command, he will be the best #4 starter in baseball, and could become an ace. He doesn’t, he is one of the most disappointing pitchers in White Sox history. He is still very young, and has a lot of time to figure it out. Rick Sutcliffe called him the best Cubs pitching prospect he had ever seen.
  5. They seemed to have a budget, and they were willing to pay Joc more than they paid Eaton. And they had to know what Hendriks would cost. His yearly average is pretty much right in line with all predictions.
  6. What I don’t understand about it is if they are operating on a tight budget and he was the best solution they had at $3 million, was it really with the risk non tendering him and losing that best solution over a million or a million and a half ?
  7. Pitchers are often a bit wild right after TJ. Rosenthal is a great example. I don't know if he can stay heathy. One thing I wonder about all these guys throwing showcases is they are probably way ahead of the normal pace they would be on to prepare for a season. So perhaps they will be ahead of the hitters early on. Also may run out of gas sooner.
  8. Hamels would have made $18 million last year. While he definitely will make significantly less, not significantly enough to fit in the budget. No way they sign him
  9. I don't think there is or was anything wrong with Rodons attitude. He was just always hurt.
  10. One problem with Watson is while demanding a trade, he also has a no trade in his contract, so he can go where he wants. Would it be the Bears? Very doubtful. What the Bears would have to give up to get him would leave the team short, plus why would he want anything to do with the Bears. They didn’t even take him out to dinner the year he was drafted.

from the sounds of it Joc doesn't want to be platooned. If you're Rick Hahn, that should be a deal breaker.
  12. JR's $20 million purchase of the White Sox was approved 40 years ago today.
  13. I do wish him well. I always liked him, and liked his attitude. He was put in a very unfair position last year. Even if it's with the Cubs, I hope he can somehow turn things around.
  14. As far as I know, Katz isn't a surgeon.
  15. Dick Allen replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The article said one thing that appealed to Joc was that the Cubs weren't going to platoon him. I don't think the White Sox would go that far, and if they did, that would be stupid.
  16. Nicky Two Strikes is going to have to show he can stay healthy for a long time even if he is a lot better than some people think, to get to 3000 hits. I like his confidence.
  17. Starlin Castro is about to turn 31. He has over 1600 hits. He had a decent shot at 3000 but started really sucking and a Covid season probably ruined any chance.
  18. I think it's all the same leak. And who knows how many people are actually these accounts and this board's insiders. It may be one or two people who know the same guy.
  19. I think they are trying to be more than what they are. I think they like the attention. Being an insider isn't all it is made out to be anyway. Many years ago, I worked with a guy who did some business with one of JR's sons. He told me one day the Sox were trying to acquire Tim Hudson from Oakland. I was so excited. So I posted it on this board. Maybe an hour later, Hudson gets traded to Atlanta, and I get slammed.
  20. Cheesey at one time insinuated JR wanted Cruz really bad. Again, I have no doubt these guys have a source, and that source provides them a little info. The problem is, they are trying to be Ken Rosenthal with their twitter instead of some guys who get infrequent info.
  21. Just click on what is imbedded, and look at all his tweets from last night. He went from Cruz and Wainwright, to hopefully a cheaper pitcher if that, and maybe some deadline help.
  22. Wow did Cheesy do an about face. Now it's the team that is there is the team they are going to ride with. What about all his other BS?
  23. You are absolutely correct, but previously KW did put out a shit product and blamed the fans for not spending money watching it, therefore hamstringing him into making it better. Their team is loaded. We just want it a little more loaded.
  24. It might save the Twins some money, but ultimately it will also save JR some money if he let's the Twins know he won't be bidding against them.
