QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jul 4, 2017 -> 11:40 AM) I've posted it is still important but no longer makes or breaks a franchise. I believe that to be correct. I never stated it doesn't matter. However, it is significant money. The Cubs on average draw about 18k more than the White Sox. Almost 1.5 million over the course of a season. Even if you conservatively put that at $50 a head, it's an additional $75 million, which, if you think the Sox are broken, and from your posts I think that would be a safe assumption, it definitely would help fix it. Considering the discrepancy in ticket prices, the Cubs probably will pull in close to $100 million more than the White Sox this year through ticket sales. It's is still important, not only for now, but the future. Once people stop going to games and find alternative things to do with their time and other ways to spend their entertainment funds, it can take a long time to get them back. The White Sox are wise to keep their prices low for now. It will be interesting to see how much success they will need to pull the plug on things like family Sunday.

QUOTE (turnin' two @ Jul 3, 2017 -> 11:45 AM) I think his absence is easily explained by the fact that he has missed nearly a month of the season. And he is still 3rd in baseball in WAR.

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jul 3, 2017 -> 11:59 AM) Maybe when new ownership comes to pass but not before. And again, attendance no longer makes or breaks a franchise...this isn't the 1950's anymore. There are multiple revenue streams bringing in millions upon millions of dollars to teams and a lot of those streams are shared equally among all teams. To say it doesn't matter much is not paying attention. It isn't the end all it once was, but just taking ticket revenue, the difference between the Cubs and Sox is a pretty good chunk of change. The White Sox now have some of the cheapest tickets in the league.

QUOTE (Saladino'sMustache @ Jul 3, 2017 -> 10:56 AM) Kahnle got absolutely robbed. I know he's had some trouble lately, but look at his numbers compared to Betances. Kahnle: 0.9 WAR, 2.20 ERA, 0.918 WHIP, 7.86 K/BB. Betances: 0.5 WAR, 3.12 ERA, 1.346 WHIP, 2.29 K/BB. It's not even close. Think about Justin Turner. Hitting over .380. OPS over 1.000 and playing GG defense.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 3, 2017 -> 09:30 AM) I think the problem with the trade from the Nats perspective is that they traded for a player that they didn't really need; they had OFs and while they needed a better CF, Eaton's only an average CF defensively. He was elite in RF. Couple that with paying full price for Eaton, and you get some dissatisfaction. They arguably paid above full price, but considering that they were frustrated with Giolito, in their metrics, it's seems full, not excess. I don't know if they will do another deal with the Sox - doesn't matter that much as long as they keep looking for pen help - that maintains market demand. Plenty of teams need a reliever. Robertson won't cost THAT much - certainly not an elite prospect. But he could help any contender - he has shown he can pitch multiple innings and multiple days in a row. You are ignoring their baseball people agreed to the trade. Ownership blocked it due to money. They also had basically agreed to a contract with Greg Holland until ownership blocked it due to a performance based option. It has nothing to do with the Eaton trade. No one knows how that trade will work out. You could say the Sox screwed them, but that's all talk at this point.

QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Jul 2, 2017 -> 01:47 PM) TAJ TO THIBS Taj Gibson headed to Minnesota on two-year, $28 million deal I thought Gar said all the players wanted Thibs gone? -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 2, 2017 -> 01:02 PM) One reason for low road attendance....9/10 game per year times two are in Minnesota and Cleveland. 1/4th of their road schedule is two of the bottom dwellers in attendance, and KC is already down quite a bit from last year. So 3/8th's of schedule, compared to other divisions in baseball that only have 1-2 poorly attended teams grouped together. But the other teams have the same issue ands they go to Chicago which is rhe worst attendance in the division

Think of it this way. If the Sox had not signed Robert, it wasn't like they were going to add anyone to last year's pool. So essentially it is like they signed him to this one and are penalized one year.

Renteria made a curious move yesterday when he yanked Holland with Napoli at the plate. Napoli was lost his first 2 ABs. Had no chance. Holland was at 106 pitches, but he was having no issue with this guy. Brings in Beck, and although it appeared a bit windblown, home run. Banister did the exact opposite with Hamels. Left him in for Davidson who fanned for the 3rd time, then yanked him. I know wins aren't so important now, but running the game should be. Ricky needs to improve on this.

The White Sox road attendance is woeful as well. Only Oakland and TB are worse road draws. It has been like this for several years which I find interesting because they have had some talent on the team.

That game sucked. Nice first inning. My next highlight was Bill Walton getting on my Red Line train when I was going home. I think they have some Greatful Dead thing going on at Wrigley.
-
They will play tonight.

I saw a graphic where MLB is on pace to break a record 6 years in a row for ABs that end with a walk or a k. Right now they are at 30%. It has to peak soon. It's becoming a problem. It makes the games longer, and walks and strikeouts are pretty boring to most. They said this during the Red Sox game last night and were talking about millennials and there phones. Then they showed millennial after millennial in the stands paying no attention to the game and watching videos on their phones.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 04:12 PM) I love these logical fallacies. I see them all the time on the Bulls RealGM board. Hey, look, one time a player came out of nowhere to be really good so that must mean this guy that also sucks will become just like that one guy that one time! DA does it constantly here. So does Hawk. If you paid attention, which you don't, you would have noticed that he asked for an example of a player with similar numbers who became a good player. For a guy who critiques posters left and right, maybe you should look at yourself. And I do it constanty? Uh no. more BS from you. I thought you had me on ignore. Now you seem to incorrectly know what I post.

So Melania, who took up cyber bullying as her cause, doesn't find anything wrong with Trump's tweets. She must have got a raise.

Can't throw. Framing is getting bad, and clubhouse cancer. I don't know what value he brings to a rebuilding team other than pointing a finger away from him. The Cubs and Maddon especially, were very worried what his attitude might do to their young players.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 09:25 AM) They haven't had a losing record since 2005-2006 and despite that have been able to collect attractive assets with 2nd round picks and good free agent signings into better players. I can't really call issue with their strategy. I'm not going to call out a team for not tanking when they have evolved so much over time while still being able to win. Haha, idiots, you should have traded all your stars and been terrible for 5 years in the hopes you could either be a champion or the exact same place you are now with soem great players but not enough to supplant maybe the greatest collection of talent in 30 years. I'm not saying its wrong, but J4L loves them and he rips on the Bulls who had a very similar run. I will stick with they are the Bulls of the West. They have had some success, but let's not praise them for their past decade and not do the same with the Bulls. One difference I will give you is the Bulls lucked into Rose, the Rockets went out and got Harden. The love of tanking has grown by epic proportions, not just in the NBA but all sports. There still is only one team that can win every year, and you can tank all you want, it doesn't guarantee anything, especially now with guys willing to move to create superteams. But especially in the NBA if you don't have stars, you can't win. You can tank and get Eddy Curry, and Marcus Fizer, and Tyson Chandler, but you still pretty much suck. You have to get lucky and get a Lebron or MJ or be really bad forever. People can jack off all they want over the 76ers roster, but they were so bad for so long, and still, there is no guarantee. -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 08:37 AM) It's also funny that someone with the temperament and vocabulary of a 3rd grader is calling someone low I.Q. And he keeps mentioning ratings. I wonder how come he ignores his own.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 08:22 AM) The Bulls had Butler, a 27 year old who admitted he wanted to stay with the team, under contract. The Clippers got pieces back from the team the 32 year old CP3 wanted to sign with. The fact it's even a question is likely a problem. That said, it's not very close. I still can't believe the Bulls added the 16th pick and sold a 2nd rounder, though. I think it was Shack who posted there was very little chance the Bulls refusing to give up the 16th pick would have made the T Wolves walk away. I agree. Not that the 16th pick was going to be a solid piece moving forward, but if you are rebuilding, you might as well take as many flyers as you can get. The selling of the second round pick was shameful. They don't need the money and have profits locked in for years. If they would have just admitted it was a money grab, I personally think to pay off the Rondo payout, it would be one thing. But Gar's explanation was just Gar being Gar, thinking the rest of the world is stupid, yet he is the one that looks like he doesn't know the rules. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 09:17 PM) Rockets org is very good. If they were in east they'd have been in conference finals every year since 2013. First round knockouts suggest they are a bit overrrated. Maybe they do better in the East, but they aren't in the East, and they are well aware of it before they make moves that basically put them in an upgraded version of NBA hell. Maybe Paul is the guy that finally changes that. He is 32 so he probably is about to start declining, but he can decline and still be a top of the line guy for a couple years I would think. Harden had his best season handling the ball. Now you take him off the ball. It will be interesting, but when it comes playoff time, they still need some key Golden State injuries to have any chance at all. -
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 01:47 AM) My friend's cousin is coming over from Palestine in August. I wonder if he's lying about being Muslim so he can get in or you're just being deliberately obtuse in calling it that. Are all the changes in European countries' immigration policies Muslim bans as well? Seems like a reasonable take. Trump himself called it a Muslim ban.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 03:34 PM) I acknowledged they haven't won since 1995. But it's not from lack of incompetence or creativity. They've acquired superstars over the years without having to be in the lottery. The Bulls have acquired guys like Ben Wallace and Carlos Boozer. $20 million a year for Ryan Anderson and his 13.5 PER. Nice. Dwight Howard and his Patrick Ewing moves. Great. That's creative if it isn't a Chicago team. Chicago team it's stupidity.
