QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 03:05 PM) Yeah, I mean what's to stop him from walking on wherever he wants to go in this hypothetical. Adolescent sex offenders aren't restricted from going to college. At many schools, they aren't allowed to live in the dorms. But Oregon apparently wasn't aware of his status, so I wonder how many schools would have been. If he would have just registered again when he was 21, it appears this wouldn't have come out yet. You would think eventually it would.

Majority Whip Steve Scalise Shot at Charity Baseball Practice

QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 11:56 AM) This is not newsworthy. People blow each other daily but once people start targeting politicians, that's a different ball game. /green I'm thinking this guy knew what he was targeting. He seems a guy who was either self employed or unemployed. A Bernie fan. Sees what is going on with health care, and snaps. I know some don't want to hear it, but as the 2 parties grow farther and farther apart, this is the sort of thing that has to be defended against, both ways. Every party has their fair share of wackadoos. -

This is horrible, but thankfully he is insured. -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 08:19 AM) The BABIP thing is so hard to wrap your mind around as a fan that watches his PAs, just because he seems to have so many PAs where he is just crushing the ball. I have noticed the increase in pulled balls, but he also seems to be hitting the ball up the middle extremely hard as well. I noticed in Tampa (I believe it was) they actually had shifted to put the 2b directly behind second base basically. Perhaps defensive shifts will bring down the BABIP? Either way, when all the numbers shake out, and the regression ultimately happens or doesn't, at least in terms of the contact he is currently making, if this is the quality of contact he will make from here on out - he will be a valuable hitter. Now, that doesn't mean the pitchers won't make further adjustments that will cause the quality of that contact to decrease, but... Yes, he's hitting the ball hard way too often for it to be considered lucky IMO.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 07:13 AM) I would wait a year and a half before extending him. If they can't extend him by next July and he's still hitting this way, trade him. This makes sense.

White Sox pick 3B Jake Burger at #11
Dick Allen replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 07:18 AM) Coincidentally, Gaetti was selected at #11 as well He had a few really good years. 360 career homers. Had some horrid ones as well. Was a leader-type player on a team that had several. When he signed with the Angels, back when $3 million a year was big money, he was awful. He seemed to lose a bit of intensity. He got released eventually, signed with the Royals and was pretty good there a couple of years. Burger plays hard. I'm really not too worried about the body, I think the Sox can fix that. If his bat works, it's a good pick. Another reason is he isn't a strike out machine. The Sox have little luck with those guys. If somehow Kendall overcomes the odds and becomes a star, many will say it was a mistake to pass him up. But, the White Sox seem to recognize a weakness. They haven't been able to develop this type of guy. Kendall may become a star, it doesn't mean he would have done the same had the White Sox drafted him. -
A lot of people have had to make it in life without the opportunity to be a professional baseball player. Looks like he will as well. Good. My thoughts are with his victim. May she be able to somehow have a normal rest of her life.

Both Hostetler and KW comp him to Gary Gaetti. If he is a match, it was a real good pick. -
It appears the average water polo scholarship is $5700 at Long Beach State. Maybe he got a full. But I agree, if he was a longshot to sign, drafting him where they did makes no sense, and they seem, even if it doesn't work out, to usually make sense with their decisions.

Superteams suck unless GarPax puts it together. It is what it is. Lebron is awesome, but he isn't Jordan. The Warriors are great, and make win 3 or 4 more in a row, but to try to compare today with 20 years ago, it's a lot different. 20 years ago, Lebron never leaves Cleveland, KD doesn't leave OKC, but that is how it is done today. The sad thing is, there is more than enough talent to have several contenders, but the way it's dispersed, the regular season is barely moe important than preseason games, as is the first 2 or 3 rounds of the playoffs.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 09:59 AM) If you guys think other GMs aren't seeing this s*** and licking their chops, you are nuts. It is NOT a good look when your manager continues to beg the GM through the press to find him some bullpen help. I concede they can win this division even without a bullpen, but you're nuts if you think this isn't raising the price they will pay. And it isn't like they only need one arm...they need 3-4 arms. Rizzo has some work to do. What raises the price is other teams needing the same thing.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 09:36 AM) This isn't the first time he's said it, either. But DA, I thought that all was wonderful in Washington? I think they are pretty happy with the standings. Dusty isn't the GM. Oh no, the lead is down to 8, better trade all the top prospects for David Robertson. You really want to mess that team up, start panicking when they are comfortably in first place.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 09:43 PM) Now people are calling for a boycott of the network. Too many boycotts of late. Why does this guy think Sandy Hook is fake? If this Alex Jones guy is a journalist, it wouldn't be too hard for him to go to the town where the tragedy occurred and find out it actually happened. Is Alex Jones a nut? Mentally disturbed? The scary part is the current president thinks this guy is great and the former director of the FBI is the nut job.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 03:31 PM) Not really, Dick. You come to your own conclusions, I will come to mine. Part of that is a legal conclusion stating that he should not be disallowed the privilege of playing professional ball because of his crime. That is not part of his punishment, is it? I have not questioned anyone's moral judgment, and I have stated that repeatedly. Nor have I questioned anyone's desire for the White Sox to avoid this player. Obviously that has offended you and caused you to attack me personally. You are the one in the thread about a convicted child molestor who said people are rushing to judgement, Do you think if Oregon knew about this he would have been on their team? If you were a scouting director and it was round 40 and he was on the board, you would have no problem going to your owner and saying he is by far the best player available and you want to draft him, correct? Professional baseball isn't the only occupation that would red flag him because of his legal status. I think he will have a tough time finding a decent job.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 03:23 PM) I am merely pointing out that at least I, myself, do not know anything about this kid's own childhood, background, etc. Once again, I am not defending the act of child molestation. What I am stating is that I, personally, try not to rush to judgment on matters that I don't know much about. What is to be gained by my judgment, anyways? And by yours? You seem bothered by anyone coming to conclusions. Whether or not you want to think there may be a legitimate excuse for what he did (I guess you are in the everyone gets a trophy crowd), which I find ridiculous, either way, he would still be a sick person. Who would want that? As you have mentioned a lot, this is a discussion board. That is what is to be gained.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 03:08 PM) Perhaps you could refer to previous posts, where I stated multiple times to the contrary. I'm just not willing to rush into judge people and situations where I don't know s*** about what happened. Since he won't be drafted, maybe you could get him to coach some youth baseball by you.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 02:50 PM) I don't know if this is the case here, but maybe this kid himself was also molested as a child? Certainly not trying to defend him, not trying to take a position on any particular team taking him, but just throwing out the fact that we really don't know much before we rush to all this judgment. Child.......please. The poor guy had his way with a girl starting when she was 4 ending when he was caught when she was 6. We don't know, maybe something happened to OJ when he was 4 that caused him to be a POS. I prefer to hold people responsible for their actions and not search for some BS excuse. Again, his victim faces an uphill battle. That is who deserves the sympathy. She is only 11 years old right now. He's done. No team will touch him. They won't put the rest of their players through this. They won't put their fanbase through this. They won't subject themselves to all they would get for giving him a chance because he can throw a ball pretty well. There have been some real bad actors who have played professional baseball, but this offense may take the cake.

DRAFT TRACKER 2017, and Day One Discussion

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 02:06 PM) 670 The ScoreVerified account @670TheScore 1h1 hour ago White Sox's focus in draft is on best available player http://cbsloc.al/2sbUkc6 via @MLBBruceLevine Bruce is using his sources. -
never has there been a president, with few exceptions huh? I have known several ego maniacs, but nothing like this. The other thing that amazes me is the people willing to play this game. If Trump ever goes down, this thing needs to be played over again, and all these morons need to be held accountable.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 11:04 AM) Hah. Dick, how on earth do you reach your initial conclusion here? As I said earlier, I am not trying to support child molestors in any capacity, other than to support the fact that we have a penal system that has adjudicated his offense, for which he has paid, and is still paying for. I am not making an argument that the White Sox should draft him, or that any team should draft him. The argument I am making is that SHOULD a team decide they would like to draft him, that they be allowed to draft him and that he be allowed to attempt to make a living playing baseball. He has a right to work. Second chances....He took away his victim's right for a normal life. f*** him. Any team that still has him on their draft board or is willing to sign him as a free agent needs new leadership. Just like Marge Schott, the commissioner should make it a forced franchise selling event. It's a 4-6 year old girl. Who the f*** would want to play with him? I actually think character is starting to count with professional sports teams, and no one will touch this guy. The other thing that gets me is the rather light sentences these guys get. I used to work out at night at my old health club, and it was relatively empty. I became buddies with a guy who was always there, in fact we were going to go out for beers. Then one night, I get home, and was watching the local news. They had a thing about sex offenders and a website with maps. So I opened it up, and saw the map, the first one I clicked, the picture pops up and it's this guy from the health club. He was caught trying to meet a 14 year old boy for a get together. It was an undercover cop. He got probation. Now he's still out there. Disgusting.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 11:19 AM) I'm being completely serious. I think he gets his name called at some point. I really doubt it.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 11:18 AM) He can go on Maury, thats about the level of TV he deserves That would be a good show, When you said Sandy Hook was staged by actors...............That. Was. A. Lie. I got a kick out of when he was in court when his ex was using his craziness to gain full custody how for his kids' sake, everyone would leave it alone.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 11:16 AM) honestly, if Trump fired Mueller what would be the recourse? So he's gone from totally vindicated, would 100% testify under oath, to possibly firing Mueller. It's only Russia. Why do democrats even care?

I think it's disgusting, but a great protest is to just not watch. Hopefully enough people and sponsors will do just that. Having the side I disagree with on shouldn't be a big deal, but this guy is another story. She interviewed Putin her first show. What groundbreaking, earth shatterning news was going to break on that one? Was he going to say he has pictures of Trump? Was he going to say he hacked the election? You have a better chance of the Twins saying they really didn't want to draft the guy they draft #1 overall tonight. Hopefully she will ask this guy tough questions, and not let him get away with his BS.
