White Sox vs Tigers 7:10PM CSN
There has to be a reason why Avi is in RF and Shuck is DHing. It's not Robin who probably even discusses the line up with Renteria , trying to put the worst defense possible on the field. Either they are showcasing Avi or something is up with Shuck and he can't play the field. That would also make sense why it happened with Coats last night knowing there would be a decent chance Coats was PH for, if Shuck couldn't play the OF, they would lose their DH.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 02:52 PM) Maybe it is , maybe it isn't. Some guys do better with guys on base. Concentration levels increase or whatever. Besides I am not arguing weather it's repeatable or not just that it's important. Of course stat geeks will argue that driving in runs is based solely on situation blah blah blah. But regardless it's still important to drive in runs . Can't win without scoring . The point is Avi has been valuable this year in that respect. He is making the most of the situations to score runs , better than anyone on the team. Talking about weather it's repeatable just clouds that fact. People talked about how Cespedes was inconsistent but his hitting with RISP was always good. There's something to be said for rising to the occasion. Weather or not you believe in clutch is up to you. It was easy to pick Cespedes as the best of the Big 3 FA OF's in the off season . You might think it was luck but not in my eyes. I agree, some do bear down more in those types of situations, but since it is almost impossible to measure beyond a shadow of a doubt due to sample sizes, good ABs leading to bad outcomes, and vice versa, IMO, mathematicians say it doesn't exist. Avi does seem to have better ABs in those situations. His career numbers show he has done better in those situations. I agree with you and don't know why it couldn't be something. That said, I'm all for and upgrade from Avi, but when he came up in the 9th, I thought he would have a decent AB.

Renteria on 10-9 walk off win over Tigers (4 min video)
QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 01:21 PM) The guys arguing that we wouldn't have won without Rentaria are the guys who have never played, nor managed a baseball game. I think most are just fooling around. But there are one or two who are so invested in trashing Ventura, they can't understand how ridiculous their arguments are getting.

QUOTE (chisox802 @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 12:59 PM) If last night does not give this team momentum then nothing will..... I don't think last night's game has much to do with what kind of stuff Zimmerman and Gonzalez feature tonight, but hopefully it will inspire some confidence in White Sox hitters so when the get pitches to hit, they hit them hard.

Renteria on 10-9 walk off win over Tigers (4 min video)
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 12:50 PM) Maybe they won because of the fire and intensity RV showed by standing up for his team. You can spin it anyway you want. It had to be Renteria. Robin must have done something to show he still was around the inning Melky and Frazier screwed up, and you know he probably talked to Robertson and probably Frazier when he fanned. Just like when players are good, it had to be Hahn's idea, and when they are bad, it's all KW, the same applies here. Screw ups are on Robin. Renteria at times, can fix his mess, because after all, he can speak Spanish. I am just so glad they won, and hope this can propel them to some extended good baseball. Who knows, we might have been not having the biggest comeback by the team in 14 years away from a new manager.

Renteria on 10-9 walk off win over Tigers (4 min video)
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 11:10 AM) No this cannot be correct. There is no communication available that would allow RV to talk to Renteria or Cooper. This game was won solely because the aura of Renteria was sitting quietly on the bench projecting confidence. It is beyond silly to think Renteria taking over was the reason for the win. How did the team do in Robin's other ejections after he left? Edit, now 3-0 when Robin gets the boot, and they score a minimum 8 runs. But, it wouldn't surprise me if Robin wasn't running the game anymore. I know it's been baseball tradition where the manager still runs the game from the clubhouse, but I do know when Ozzie would get ejected, he left the park. I had a couple people tell me they were drinking with him watching the game on TV at Carmichael's after he had been ejected. Maybe they are lying, but I don't know why they would.

The Truth About
I don't know that he's tipping them, I just think he's out of whack and throwing pitches Wimpy used to like to say would say "hit me, hit me". He got better. So whatever it is, hopefully he figured something out.

So the Sox have their biggest comeback win in 14 years last night. Avi gets a big hit to tie it in the 9th, so naturally, a thread started to praise him for the AB, dissolves into a discussion about how much he sucks. Again. Some of you guys need a new hobby.

QUOTE (CB2.0 @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 08:12 AM) Why in the hell would Cincinnati be interested in Avi? Every OFer they have is better than him. If they trade Jay Bruce, they might want to see him in RF.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 07:58 AM) I truly think as dumb as it sounds, that Avi is being showcased somehow. Ventura would give him multiple days off in a row at DH. Now he plays every day in the OF with a better defender on the bench. It really doesn't make any sense. I totally agree. I'm thinking Cincinatti wants to see him in the field.

White Sox Acquire James Shields
QUOTE (CB2.0 @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 07:46 AM) Innings. Eater!. I know you are being sarcastic, but his last few innings did help the team win. He could have been out after 2 and chances are Detroit wins. The Sox won, he wasn't batting practice the last 3 innings he pitched. The guy had an ERA of 3.04 3 starts ago. I know the peripherals, the peripherals, but I looked at them before he got blasted in Seattle, and although they were not as good as his ERA, they were quite similar to the peripherals he put up when he was considered a top of the rotation pitcher. He isn't this bad.

How times have changed. In 1997, the Sox were 3 1/2 games out in July and traded away vets for prospects, and some fans still haven't forgiven them for the "White Flag Trade". Now, on June 14th, the Sox are 3 1/2 games out, ironically behind the same team, although far less talented roster, and many fans want to blow the whole thing up. Get another bat, and win the division.

White Sox Acquire James Shields
There is no way he is this bad. It was painful to watch but at least he got through the fifth with a couple of innings of no damage. The first couple of innings, oh my, and it was close to being even worse.

Renteria on 10-9 walk off win over Tigers (4 min video)
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 06:24 AM) I'll use a Greg argument. In the end, it was Renteria in the dugout when they won...we don't or can't possibly know for sure with Robin the same result would have taken place were Ventura still in charge. Just like we can't know if Robin Ventura could successfully have managed the Braves as well as Bobby Cox, the A's/Cards as well as LaRussa, the Tigers/Pirates as well as Leyland and the Yankees as well as Joe Torre...or if any different White Sox manager would have similarly guided that 2005 team successfully into the playoffs and post-season. Actually, we have to give Robin credit for removing the possibility of Renteria putting Tyler Danish into the game later!!!! Keeping the rally going, Brett Lawrie lined a single to right-center field to score Abreu making it a one-run game, 7-6. Now only down by one run, Ventura went to the bullpen to keep the Tigers offense still and called for... Tyler Danish. The rookie who has struggled in each of his appearances was called into the face the Tigers middle of the order. Danish walked Miggy, gave up a single to Nick Castellanos, who committed a TOOTBLAN by trying to stretch it into a double. With a runner on third and one out, Danish intentionally walked J.D. Martinez. Looking to use his sinker to create a double play, Justin Upton waited for a pitch up in the zone and drove a single to center to extend the Tigers lead, 8-6. Ventura would lift Danish for Dan Jennings, but it appeared that gamble would cost the game for Chicago. www.southsidesox.com He had at least 4 innings to cover with his bullpen. You are going to have to use the dregs. It wound up he had more to cover, but considering your before hindsight comment about Duke's chances of going through an inning giving up fewer runs than Danish, it's mindboggling you aren't ripping Renteria for using him.

Renteria on 10-9 walk off win over Tigers (4 min video)
Renteria's finest moment had to be the very first pitch after he took over when Albers blew Miggy away. He didn't have to come out and say anything to Matt, you know it was just there. If Ventura is still in the dugout there is probably a 92.75-97.45% chance Miggy homers there. I do think on that play Melky screwed up, then Frazier blew the tag, Robin must have announced his presence in between innings. No way a Renteria run ball club messes up like that. Will Rick Hahn see the light and do what he has to do? His choices are vie for the playoffs with Renteria, are gather another protected draft pick with Ventura.

Renteria on 10-9 walk off win over Tigers (4 min video)
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 03:50 AM) So you still think the Sox would have won had Ventura remained in the game? His biggest supporter around here didn't believe this to be the case...thought we would lose regardless of who was managing. Of course they would have won. What did Renteria do that Ventura would not have done?

QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 10:27 PM) Why no walk there to set up DP? You hate to try and stop that run from scoring! Renteria is managing, so you don't want to blame the inning on the manager.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 09:54 PM) Hate this "tradition" of managers getting right up in umpire's faces screaming their heads off. Probably looks normal to you guys who grew up with it but looks ridiculous to me. You can make the point without borderline bullying. He got thrown out when he was in the dugout. It is automatic when you argue balls and strikes although they usually give you a little leeway if you are chirping from the dugout. Once your tossed, you might as well get your money's worth. It may get you a call later especially if you are like Robin and not always screaming.
