  1. QUOTE (peppers312 @ Mar 24, 2016 -> 09:13 AM) it's "technically" a contract year for Danks, so if he wants to continue playing ball for the remaining part of his career you would think we'll see the best of him this year. i'm sure Hahn/Jerry can't wait to see that $15.75M come off the books though. He also becomes a 5/10 guy after this season. So if he's good enough to earn a decent contract, it won't be with the White Sox.
  2. Danks never threw huge gas. Maybe 92 or 93 on occasion. Even during his heyday, he always was susceptible to the beyond horrid outings. I don't know if he truly was tipping pitches or this is just coincidence. Hopefully he can put up a decent year. He will still have some good games, and some when he looks like a Soxtalk poster on the mound.
  3. QUOTE (shysocks @ Mar 24, 2016 -> 08:57 AM) LaRoche should read Jose Abreu's statement that Quinarvy posted yesterday and feel f***ing ashamed of himself. Why? The guy chose his kid over $13 million. That's his choice. The guy everyone wanted to retire, now is one of the biggest assholes of all time because he retired.
  4. If Forbes is to be believed, the team made $20 million last year, despite a bad year, low ratings, low attendance, cheap tickets, stretching the payroll... It doesn't appear the franchise is doomed or looking to move out of their sweetheart deal anytime soon.
  5. I just wonder what exactly they are "monitoring". I suppose it all has to do with whether or not LaRoche wants to file a grievance.
  6. Hopefully the adjustments help him, but to think it will cut his k's way back and increase his homers is about as likely as Thad Bosley giving JR a compliment.
  7. I don't think you can really judge him yet. Getting excited about spring training homers and strikeouts just sounds phony, so I am glad he isn't trying to sell that. When the games count, and his feet are sufficiently wet will be when you see what he is. I think he will be pretty good, and no knock on him,but I am looking forward to a Hawkeroo sighting in less than 2 weeks.
  8. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Mar 22, 2016 -> 09:14 AM) Has Rollins played any 2B or 3B this spring? Probably the most telling action of them all. If Rollins was going to be utility, he would have played there at least some, unless they are releasing him.
  9. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Mar 21, 2016 -> 12:52 PM) How is Loney hapless??? He hit .280 in 300+ AB last year and is considered an above average IB. That is not a bad back-up to have. His OPS was not much higher than LaRoche's in 2015, and really he isn't a guy who you would project to be much better.
  10. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 21, 2016 -> 12:24 PM) I hate 1B that don't hit for power. There are better options out there than Loney. I agree. Loney to me would be a last gasp guy. If you are going to spend some of the saved money on a hitter, get someone who hits the ball out of the park.
  11. Johnson was giving answers like a robot at Soxfest. All about his routine, etc. It was like someone programmed him. That's all fine and dandy when things are going your way, but IMO he has to have some sort of flexibility. Unless your are elite, the tide changes fairly often. And he is not elite. It seems with him, if plan A isn't working, he's screwed. There is no plan B or C or D.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 21, 2016 -> 11:59 AM) More specifically, he thinks he COULD be, is what he said. And I really doubt it. But certainly Hickman is one to keep an eye on, though I'd suggest one shouldn't focus on his 2016 numbers. His goal for this season is just to get stretched back out, gain strength back, and log innings. 2017 will tell you what you've really got. Word is, Hickman will likely be with AZL for most or all of this season. Full season ball would come in 2017. I asked Nick his thoughts about the former Rice Owl. In true form, Capra replied, “I put him right up there with Fulmer That was from Future Sox. He said the exact same thing at Soxfest when he was asked about under the radar guys.
  13. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 20, 2016 -> 04:54 PM) Is he going to be starting? I think Jordan Stephens is a guy that could easily be a top 10 guy too. That's the guy Nick Capra thinks is as good as Fulmer.
  14. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 21, 2016 -> 09:53 AM) Only for the first couple weeks while they see how guys are doing. You can live with only 3 bench players for up to two weeks. With a rotating DH, you probably can, but bad match ups will be harder to avoid.
  15. QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 21, 2016 -> 09:39 AM) it is not the action or intent, it was the reasoning and spitting it there that made the org looked bad. When it got out that Jordan and Pippen and Phil Jackson made fun of Jerry Krause, or when the White Sox defied Terry Bevington, should players have been traded? This all comes down to what side you are on. If you think LaRoche had no case, everyone that stuck up for him was totally wrong and should be punished. That is why Sale and Eaton deserve some sort of punishment for violating JR's gag order. Yet when an anonymous player says some players didn't like him on the field after said gag order was issued, no problem popping that off. And vice versa. This is going to go away pretty quickly, hopefully forever, which will include not holding grudges and trading productive players with very reasonable contracts away just because they don't like KW.
  16. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Mar 21, 2016 -> 09:23 AM) For me it will always be Jaime Navarro. Same with me. There are plenty of guys I hated as players because they really sucked, but this is the one guy I would actually boo. His attitude was atrocious. He actually cried about run support in a game he gave up 9 runs. He is a AAA pitching coach right now. He is actually one of the last guys I would have thought would have been a coach in pro ball. Schueler actually got Eldred and Valentin for him and John Snyder. One of the greatest trades in team history.
  17. QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 21, 2016 -> 09:22 AM) so did i. but if anything, i can envision eaton being traded with his social media phone before sale. sale issue will be address, i believe after the season is over. Trading anyone over this would be ridiculous.
  18. If the White Sox traded people based on what they thought of KW, the roster would be a GreenSox utopia. It's like the Bulls with Jerry Krause.
  19. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Mar 20, 2016 -> 07:09 PM) Tampa Bay Times ran a story on the LaRoche mess with the White Sox. The Rays have a policy on kids and relatives in the clubhouse----i.e.when they can and can't visit. Article also noted that White Sox may explore James Loney as a possible replacement since he is a DH/IB The more you think about it the more you realize the sox could use a guy who can play 1B, if Ishakawa doesn't make the team. Frazier can I suppose and you could put Saladino at 3B. If they are going to use a rotating DH, it may behoove them to see if Melky or Avi have any ability to play the position.
  20. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 20, 2016 -> 06:20 PM) Could have been handled "differently" JR said. He didn't say 'better". I'll assume you were paraphrasing what he said instead of changing the wording to fit any agenda. miscommunication, misunderstanding. You know what they say about assuming. He praised LaRoche after LaRoche hung KW out to dry. It is about as big of public slap down JR would ever give KW. if it couldn't have been handled better, why would he have wanted it handled differently? But yes I was paraphrasing.
  21. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 20, 2016 -> 01:44 PM) I think the next big Sox story is a rift between Hahn and Kenny. Rick can only say "Kenny is my boss" for so long. JR gagging RH means he will never have to answer the question as to what his agreement was with LaRoche. hahn saying absolutely nothing speaks volumes. JR is the first to say or release anything having KW's back, and even that was miscommunication, misunderstanding, could have been handled better. I think your right. There has been a rift speculated for a while which I really thought the evidence was weak. But I can't get over HAhns total silence regarding this train wreck. JR did him a favor.
  22. http://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/jerry-r...n-adam-laroche/ According to JR no one lied, just miscommunication and misunderstanding, and it could have been handled better, and he has never had more respect for LaRoche. With the gag order, Rick Han will have never spoken on this matter, after it came out why he retired.
  23. http://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/avila-i...-faked-it-well/ Avila, had no problem and thinks KW overstepped his bounds.
  24. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 05:26 PM) If I took a job at a company, and we had a deal that I could work from home a couple of times a week, and then I proceeded to not live up to expectations in my work, then I don't think many people would be on my side if I complained after my employer took away or restricted that privilege. LaRoche didn't come close to living up to expectations, so he has a lot of gall to ignore or disobey a reasonable request from a superior. So if LaRoche was awesome last year, KW would have been way out of line to make the request?
  25. I think there was one pitch Avi didn't swing at.
