QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 29, 2016 -> 11:48 AM) The important question is, will they win the Catcus League Championship? Who cares about rosters and regular season nonsense. No chance. The DBacks are the Golden State Warriors of the Cactus League.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 29, 2016 -> 11:49 AM) Teams in basketball purgatory would take a shot on Drose. They would look at his improvement as the season progresses, being another year removed from the injury, etc, not to mention potential for a clean slate as reasons why they make the deal. They know they can't get anyone with the draw of Rose via FA so why not take a chance on a trade. Would the Knicks or Lakers do it, no, but if you are the Kings or some other franchise in a smaller market lacking enough stars to win, I see a lot of reasons why you take the chance on Rose, see if he takes off and you'd have his bird rights to offer more in FA (thus increasing odds you can resign him in the future if he continues to ascend). Plus, all reports are people like playing with Rose. We don't here the same about Butler, but I've never heard anyone say a bad thing about Rose as a teammate (and he's never once said a bad thing about his teammates). The Lakers could get really good next season. I wonder Thibs took over, if there would be any chance they would be willing to trade Russell and whatever garbage would be needed to make it work for Butler.

I think the Bulls could trade Rose pretty easily. It depends on what they would get back. The cap is going up significantly. You wouldn't get a superstar return for him. But if they don't plan on maxing him, why not take what you can get?

Is there any rhyme or reason with how many they cut at a time and when? It really doesn't affect the games at all as guys they have sent back do still get in them.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 29, 2016 -> 11:13 AM) Which is a long way of saying, it is everybody's fault, except the guys who have actually quit. No, the players have been a problem. The Bulls FO hasn't seen them as a problem up until now. They seem shocked players got hurt with Thibs no longer there. Give Pau $20 million a year, bring back Noah, and see what happens. Guys will get hurt, the team will be mediocre. The Bulls need someone who isn't tied to these guys who can see the forest through the trees. That isn't Gar or Pax. I am not of the illusion the Bulls can be legit title contenders next season no matter what kind of mind they let make the decisions, but it needs to be someone else. This arrangement isn't working, hasn't worked, and won't work.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 29, 2016 -> 10:37 AM) Apparently Chemistry only matters for the Bulls. Wasn't firing Thibs supposed to fix the chemistry? Oops. Chemistry is just something people point to when people win. Teams that loved each other have sucked, teams that hated each other have been great, and vice versa. But if basketball players don't like playing with each other, and players can hate a guy but like playing on his team, team performance is going to take a hit. I think there are a lot more guys who would have liked to play with Michael Jordan than who wanted to hang out with him after a game. A beat guy noticed this when they were 10 over .500. This core quit. Many mentioned when the Bulls quit against Cleveland in the playoffs. Why was that a coaching issue and not a player or front office issue? The problems with this team were misdiagnosed by those in postion to attempt to fix them. Moving forward, IMO, someone else should be making the diagnosis.

I love Hawk Harrelson
I am a Hawk guy. I think Jason will be fine, but I kind of appreciate them doing it this way. I can get used to Jason and still have a bit of Hawk, hopefully for at least a couple more years.

I love Hawk Harrelson
QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Mar 29, 2016 -> 09:55 AM) I am too young to remember Hawk from his early Sox broadcasting years. Was he ever considered a great broadcaster or was he always a homer? Why is being a homer the opposite of a great broadcaster? I really don't understand White Sox fans complaining about Hawk being a homer. So what. I do remember people complaining that Joe Buck wasn't excited enough when the Sox won the World Series. What do you want a homer, or someone neutral? On a local broadcast, I want a homer every time. Besides, these guys travel with the team, are with the team all the time. If they couldn't care less if the won or not, what would that say about the players?

2015-2016 NBA Thread
QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Mar 29, 2016 -> 09:48 AM) You said it yourself in an earlier post though. 3 or 4 teams have a chance to win the title every year. The Bulls looked like they were going to have a long window starting with the Rose MVP year, but without Rose, that window effectively closed. A lot needed to go right for this to be a championship caliber roster. Rose needed to return to 85-90% of his MVP form. Noah needed to be the guy he was two seasons ago when he was in the MVP voting conversation. Butler needed to continue his rise to elite status. And the problems with chemistry last year needed to be because of Thibs. Add to that Mirotic continuing to improve and not regressing horribly and some decent contributions from Snell and/or McDermott and this could have been a championship caliber roster. There are a lot of unknowns there, but the point is that is a more reasonable road to contention than blowing it up and starting over. With the benefit of hindsight, things almost definitely wouldn't have been worse with Thibs this year. But Noah still wouldn't be right. And the chemistry issues wouldn't have gone away. The question now is, are we at the end of the Bulls' window or, with a couple tweaks to the roster, can they get competitive again quickly... If the guys don't like playing with each other, I see no reason not to make some major changes. Not blow it up Sixers style and be horrible for years, but I would hope the Reinsdorfs would be willing to bring someone in to make changes who isn't attached to any of these players. Something big is going to have to happen for the Bulls to really have a championship quality roster.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 29, 2016 -> 09:36 AM) This roster should have been WAY better than it was. At some point, the players should answer for this season. It was basically the same roster. It should have been better, but it certainly wasn't good enough to win a title. And problems were exposed. A CSN beat reporter even said they don't like playing with each other. How can he see this and the FO can't? Gar hiring his buddy really did Hoiberg no favors other than to his bank account. He's left looking like a fool.

2015-2016 NBA Thread
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 29, 2016 -> 09:12 AM) Yea this is a nice thought. I wish Gar had it when he could have traded Gasol and Snell to the Kings at the Deadline for McLemore and Koufos and a lower draft protection. You know, to get younger and build for the future And break up a championship caliber roster? No way. That could and should be used against him if they are determining whether to keep him around. Personally I think Pax and Gar should go. Way too many mistakes, and even if they are all Gar's doing, Pax was there to put his stamp of approval on them. But at least Gar has to go. Status quo in the front office would show IMO, the Bulls aren't really serious about winning championships. Just being good enough to sell all their tickets. The NBA isn't like the other sports where if you have a good team, you can win a championship. In the NBA there are only 3 or 4 teams a year, if that, that can legitimately win a title. In the playoffs, the best team wins seires a lot more often in the NBA than any other sport.

Boo Oakland!
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 29, 2016 -> 09:15 AM) Jobs dont normally let you keep your sick days, so use them how you please My company dumped sick days years ago and just threw them in with the rest of the pool. I guess they saw how people were always getting sick or their kids were getting sick at the beginning of the year when they had the sick days, and were remarkably healthy when their supply of those days ran out.

They couldn't wait to get rid of him before, so I can't see them having much interest now.

2015-2016 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 27, 2016 -> 01:04 PM) So I gotta go for this after the last week: There is zero reason why Fred Hoiberg should coach the Chicago Bulls next fall. He may be a better coach than this, he may be a better coach elsewhere, he could turn into the next Pop somewhere else and I will still think that dropping him now is the right call. As he was the handpicked choice of management, if removing management is necessary to accomplish this step, then I am similarly ok with that. Dumping guys 1 year into a 5 year contract doesn't happen very often. The CSN beat guy, I think is name is Vincent Goodwill, is pretty blunt for a beat guy. He told Garfien when they were 22-12 that storm clouds were developing and he wouldn't be surprised if they didn't make the playoffs. He was on Sportstalk Live a couple of weeks ago and said the Bulls players simply don't like playing with each other. Last night's game had to be about as embarrassing as any since they became relevant again. But missing the playoffs may cause change. Yeah, they laid down at the end of the series vs. the Cavs last year, but they were going to lose that anyway. Not making the playoffs causes a lot of cash not to flow into the Bulls' bank accounts. I would imagine there will be a sacrificial lamb. Not Hoiberg, they owe him too much money. Not Pax, he's the Bulls KW. Logic says Gar , which he deserves. Someone is going to pay, but they have to adjust the roster significantly.

2016 MLB catch all thread
They can get by on $100 a day. If they must spend a couple of hundred on lunch, they make enough to cough up the difference themselves. A couple things I found out is when they go on a roadtrip, they get all their per diem in cash up front. They also get per diem money when they are playing on the "road" within their city. When the Sox go to Wrigley, they get a per diem.

Adam LaRoche retires
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 24, 2016 -> 10:35 AM) You could write speeches for Donald Trump. You full well know that when people say they wanted Adam LaRoche to retire, they didn't mean they wanted an ugly and prolonged feud to emerge that kept the team in the news for days at at time and created strife and controversy in the front office and locker room potentially dividing the team and cause issues that could last into the season and hurt the team on the field. You understand the difference between what people wanted, and what actually happened, why are you acting like they are the same thing? Representing that statement as a "truth" is dishonesty on a level that would make Bill Clinton flinch, because it wilfully ignores 99.9% of what actually happened to make an argument that should have been over days ago. Take your own advice and move on if this is the kind of "truth" and "facts" you are going to try to pass off. This "feud" is not being fueled by LaRoche. It's a reach that his meat company has a familyfirst promotion and it is meant as blasting the White Sox. LaRoche wrote very highly of the organization except one member.

Adam LaRoche retires
QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 24, 2016 -> 10:22 AM) no you are not, it is you, and you using your perception of what you are assuming is facts. I am stating facts. 100% of posters would have been happy a week before Adam LaRoche retired if he retired. Then he retires and all of the perfect parents here know how to raise their kids and know despite not one report to the contrary, the guy LaRoche is doing a s***ty job of raising is nothing but a good kid. Just remember when you mention FACTS, the next complaint you read about Drake LaRoche will be the first. So if you want to rip people for assuming, you really need to look in the mirror. We assume a lot of things. KW flatly omitted he totally banned the kid, and then changed his mind. Do you know that he changed it right away or after LaRoche decided to retire? We don't know, and won't know. But again, LaRoche sucked so he is going to be the one who is blamed. There are so many things here that could go either way. I don't see anything wrong with his company using recent news as a promotion to sell product. Why don't they monitor LaRoche's twitter instead if you are looking for something to piss you off?

Adam LaRoche retires
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 24, 2016 -> 10:14 AM) So this is you moving on? I'm just commenting, and stating some facts. Adam LaRoche needed to retire. So he retires and he's an ass. Adam LaRoche needs to move on, now we have someone monitoring his Meat company's twitter feed to see if anything controversial comes of it, not to mention a shot at him for not thanking fans. Why isn't the tweet where he thanked baseball and said he gave him more than he ever deserved, from HIS twitter totally ignored. But fanning flames is one of your specialties.

Adam LaRoche retires
QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 24, 2016 -> 10:05 AM) and there are many times he could have come out with that special msg of let is die, but didn't. He's been silent. I don't know why that is some evil conspiracy. He is gone, leaving the game behind. Why are you criticizing he not moving on when he clearly is, when you cannot move on?

Adam LaRoche retires
QUOTE (shysocks @ Mar 24, 2016 -> 10:01 AM) Bingo. They could have used any other discount code. Instead they picked one that fans the flames. No. They are using the latest news and the people who support him to make some extra sales for their business. What another awful thing that no one else would do. The only flames being fanned are fathom, LDF and you.

Adam LaRoche retires
QUOTE (shysocks @ Mar 24, 2016 -> 09:53 AM) Absolutely, acting all victimized. If he had wanted to muzzle his company's Twitter account he would have done so immediately. Instead he was all too happy to play the martyr. Instead of being quiet, he could have put his statement out there right away. I've consistently been among the least harsh on LaRoche the player, chalking his struggles up to the hamate and expecting a reasonable bounceback. There's no special bias from me, but he comes out of this looking like a buffoon, and I'm happy to point that out when he continues to drum this s*** up. What? Familyfirst on a meat site for a 10% discount? And earlier showing support for your family member? Just awful. You guys complaining don't even realize how petty you are getting.

Adam LaRoche retires
QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 24, 2016 -> 09:47 AM) if that was all to it, with all due respect, but lets do a timeline 1 . for whatever reason management came to him in a respected way to tone it back 2. al did not do it, (did he tell any of his teammates?) 3. al had his son on the pitching mound 4. management got even angrier and they had words. 5. al made a statement in which he stated something like he need to think of his future 6. management tried to talk to to no avail 7. sox clubhouse and some players voiced their support. 8. al retired. 9. clubhouse and kw incident. 10. al letter to explain his side or something to that effect. 11. clubhouse became incensed 12. owner came in to pacify things. now some where in there both side could have chg and stop the mess. tell me where??? You are making this up as well and assuming many things. How do you know KW was respectful? Because he said so when he failed to mention he told LaRoche no more access? He clearly lied. Plus the team agreed to his kid having this kind of access. How many other kids had their own locker and uniform? Do you think Adam did that on his own. Look at the facts and not your hatred for how LaRoche played. He sucked. He even said he sucked. That really shouldn't matter. He's gone, and the faction moaning about Sale and Eaton keeping it alive now won't let it go after it hasn't been a story for a few days. Let it go. He's gone. hint #1.

Adam LaRoche retires
QUOTE (shysocks @ Mar 24, 2016 -> 09:23 AM) He should feel ashamed because he's acting all victimized because he can't spend every waking hour with his f***ing kid, while he sat across the locker room from a guy in Abreu who's actually been through something difficult. He proceeded to make the choice to Twitter snipe while allowing the issue to explode. Not difficult to understand. Yup, that's it. As usual you've hit the nail right on the head. Acting all victimized? He made one statement and walked away. You don't like LaRoche the player, so now you are just making things up. He has been one of the most quiet about this entire thing than anyone.
