  1. I think this being the first time in 61 years both the Sox and Cubs started out 2-0 is incredible. Even if you have a horrid team you could start out 2-0.
  2. I work downtown and got back from lunch 20 minutes ago. It isn't raining or snowing, and it's cold, but not shivering cold. Unless some accumulating snow or some pouring rain is coming, there will be baseball.
  3. Well the good news for the Cubs fan is the Cubs planned for Schwarber's injury according to the Tribune. That is probably why they traded Coughlin for nothing.
  4. If they were going to cancel it in advance, I think it would be called by now.
  5. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 10:04 AM) There isn't. Danks, at his best, is going to be the 4th best starter on the team and no 4th starter is worth a QO. Not only that, Danks becomes a 5 and 10 guy after this season. If he came back, he would have full no trade protection. This is it for Johnny Danks. Hopefully he can silence the critics at least a little bit.
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 08:52 AM) Those ankle ligaments could be in bad shape but I am not sure they would come out and say that. Isn't a sprain techinically a ligament tear? Obviously there are differences in the degree of the tear, but a bad sprain is still a pretty bad injury. It just doesn't sound so bad.
  7. DRose is going to workout hard this summer. Contract time.
  8. Starlin Castro's 7 RBI in first 2 games of the season is most by a Yankee ever in season's first 2 games.
  9. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 7, 2016 -> 03:26 PM) I'm not really concerned with the speeds as long as it is working for him. Just posting so people know where his velocity is at. It has been has high as 91 in the first and 85 in the 3rd. If he can change his speed that much he can be successful I don't think his arm strength is top notch right now, but I do think he really was a 90-92 guy his last couple of successful seasons.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 7, 2016 -> 03:25 PM) You are the kind of fan who always thinks it's early in the season, IMO. Then eventually season is ova. Why do you care so much that some of us are negative? This team has sucked for several years now. Some of us are more impatient. Who cares ultimately? Because if you are negative now with the team 2-1 playing decently, what could actually make you happy during the season? First nitpick over who they keep as the 25th guy, and then when they do use the bench, complain they are using the bench. Every little thing. Why can't you just enjoy the game? It always comes back to but. The Sox won but, he's hitting well and looks like he's improved but, he is pitching well but, to each his own but to me that's kind of miserable.
  11. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 7, 2016 -> 03:21 PM) 87 MPH fastball. If this was 15 years ago and the pitch speed wasn't on the screen, all anyone would be concerned with is the actual results.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 7, 2016 -> 03:19 PM) Baseball has changed so much the last few years. Now with such lack of power it's like the old days when pitchers were way ahead of the hitters early in the season. Should have traded for Jay Bruce. 2 homers today. Hitting .500 on the season. On pace for one of the greatest seasons of all time.
  13. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Apr 7, 2016 -> 03:10 PM) How do you guys determine pitches to be junk? The velocity isn't there but it's not like they are launching rockets like they did off Rodon. Yeah, the velocity isn't as big with him. IIRC, he actually threw a little harder last season than 2014 and there was talk of huge long term contracts, and it wasn't 95.
  14. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 7, 2016 -> 03:08 PM) OH MY GOD THE SOX ARE GETTING KILLED!!! Never mind, I read this thread before looking at the score. It's actually tied. I think it's pretty clear the Sox have no chance against Graveman today, and Latos will be lucky if he doesn't give up 7 runs.
  15. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 7, 2016 -> 01:11 PM) http://southside.locals.baseballprospectus...ew-videoboards/ Of course it's ridiculous. The Bar and Grill though is a bigger crock. I think they spent about just as much money on that and JR gets to keep all the profits. At least taxpayers of IL will be able to enjoy these boards.
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 7, 2016 -> 01:22 PM) It's a long flight home with a day game tomorrow. I have no problem with any lineup they put out there today. Pinch running and pinch hitting can still happen during the game. Exactly.
  17. For a site that seems so concerned with the 25th guy on the roster, players getting their proper days off etc. there is a lot of complaining when the top 9 guys aren't in the line up any particular game. Maybe Jackson needed a break. Maybe sitting him today, has him better prepared for success tomorrow. It's a long season.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 7, 2016 -> 12:39 PM) Detailed, must-read if you're hanging out in this thread. He makes several good points. But I can't get my head around pushing it is the cause of the problem. DRose sat and sat and sat and sat, still sits for general soreness, and still gets hurt. If Noah sat out another week, maybe his shoulder doesn't get injured again, but I'm thinking sitting another week would cause that not to happen to be not so likely. I do think using the Suns way may help a bit, but once guys start having a history of breaking down, I don't think there really is much that is going to stop it from continuing. If you want to play your best players 25 minutes a game and sit out anytime they are sore, is that going to be a solution?
  19. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 6, 2016 -> 09:05 PM) They revealed bits and pieces of it. Chance The Rapper narrates it Yes. Here is a bit http://www.redeyechicago.com/sports/redeye...0405-story.html They really haven't even shown much of the other 2 boards either. Should be quite the video experience. It looks like they upgraded the little message ticker on the billboard down the RF line, and that is where they will be using for the out of town scores.
  20. QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Apr 6, 2016 -> 04:02 PM) Totally forgot about this: For five days, Horace Grant and his agent, Jimmy Sexton, ruminated about what to say and how to respond to accusations by Bulls Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf that Grant reneged on a handshake agreement to stay with the team. In a news conference last week, Reinsdorf also accused Grant of feigning injury and illness during the season-the "blue flu," in Reinsdorf's words-which contributed to the Bulls losing the regular-season Eastern Conference title and home-court advantage through the playoffs. It wasn't in writing. Things change.

Ptatc is exactly right. The Sox don't have long men and Albers can go multiples. He isn't going to be the 8th inning guy. Besides you might not even want him in the 6th inning a couple of weeks from now. Look how long it took for Jones to go from a lock down set up guy who Robin didn't know how to use, to a mediocre guy with issues. Less than 24 hours.
  22. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 6, 2016 -> 03:13 PM) It was one game and it certainly wasn't some 10 run route like was made out to be. If after two month's he has an ERA > 5, sure, but either way, the guy was here for a year and didn't work out. Oh well, doesn't need a seperate thread. Plenty of guys stink all the time. It one freaking game. Is Zach Greinke the biggest bum ever because he had an awful opener? What about Clayton Kershaw who was lousy for the first month and a half last year before dominating the planet again. Please note that I am not comparing Shark to either of them, but I'm not going to reach any conclusion on Shark's contract being awful because of one freaking game (unless he got hurt and was going to be out the next two years or something). If this was dbackstalk, OMG. Greinke gets destroyed. Shelby Miller gives up 3 long balls. KW, JR and RH are pretty popular compared to what it would be like for Dave Stewart and Tony LaRussa.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 6, 2016 -> 01:33 PM) 670 The Score ‏@670TheScore 5m5 minutes ago Horace Grant joins Bulls as a special advisor to president/COO Michael Reinsdorf: http://cbsloc.al/23cgmZx Or as Horace likes to call them, the Buws.
  24. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Apr 6, 2016 -> 01:01 PM) Samardzija's first three batters of the season - walk, single, single. Picking up right where he left off with his first inning troubles. He was especially awful in the first inning last season.
  25. QUOTE (Sonik22 @ Apr 6, 2016 -> 07:53 AM) I personally think he's got sunflower seeds in his mouth, chewing them up kinda making it look like hes unhappy. Exactly. It was after the celebration. The only guy still going nuts was Lawrie because that is what he does. What about the rest of the guys that didn't do anything as he walked past? This is nothing.
