  1. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 01:51 PM) The #WhiteSox would love to add a bat, but unless they move position player off their 25 man roster, they have no room. https://twitter.com/BNightengale/status/627189253835862016 How did we not catch that earlier? Well then, this deadline is OVA If that is real, Nightengale must be on Quaaludes and gin.
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 01:42 PM) One other thing to think about...we are only .5 a game ahead of Texas who added Cole Hamels (and Hamilton is back healthy...no clue what that will actually mean but he's back). Not saying they are contenders, just saying, as currently constructed (and within a crazy run) they are only .5 game back of us and just added Cole Hamels. Their are a hell of a lot of teams around the Sox in the standings who have upgraded pretty significantly. The White Sox upgraded this offseason, and that didn't exactly pay immediately. I wouldn't be too worried about other teams' upgrades. If you think your team is an 85 win team, or should be with an addition, I think you go for it. If not, sell Shark, maybe get a Napoli for nothing, and see what happens.
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 01:30 PM) For some reason I had thought Mets had to remain payroll neutral. I'll believe the Mets are serious when the deal is done.
  4. One big reason I wouldn't do a Shark for rental bat is you then are losing a decent draft pick. If the net returns gives you the rental bat plus something better than that pick, IMO, it's a no brainer.
  5. The Sox have been buzzer beaters before. The Contreras and Peavy deals were announced after the deadline had past. Find a team desperate for a starter, and desperate for some salary relief with a hitter. Lose Shark, gain a hitter, and gain some prospects.
  6. Supposedly DD wanted Gausman for Cespedes. It will be interesting to see how far the price tag drops once the clock gets close to zero. The Sox have to be one of the first, if not the first in priority who would actually put in a claim if Cespedes was put on waivers in the next few days. As for Upton, if your out of it, holding on to him for a draft pick is either a total negotiating ploy, or a total bluff. Why pay him the $6 million or $7 million left on his contract to play meaningless games? I find it hard to believe they will hang on to him. It also shows teams aren't offering much.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 12:07 PM) That's not the calculation. The calculation is: Shark > Johnson Cespedes/Upton > Avi Which of those > signs is bigger? Plus, you might be getting a prospect or 2 with the bat.
  8. If teams would give you a sweet package for Samardzija, and you could get a decent bat for a guy like Beck, I'd do both. It would be kind of a wash, but you improve your every day line up. One out of 5 it is Johnson instead of Samardzija which is probably a downgrade, but if you are lucky, not that big, and you improve your system.
  9. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 09:51 AM) I agree, but I don't know if many others would. Of our top pitching prospects, I think he's the one that is most likely to be a bust. The thing is, if you are willing to trade Montas, you can get a whole lot more value than 2 months of Upton.
  10. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 09:49 AM) If Montas can be the centerpiece of an Upton deal then I'd trade him in a heartbeat. Frankie Montas for 2 months of Justin Upton to hope for a 1 game playoff? Way too much.
  11. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 09:46 AM) I'm sure they love Micah a lot less now since Sanchez has emerged fielded so well and the stick has been on fire. I doubt it. And even if they did, there is zero chance they would trade him for a rental for a shot at a 1 game playoff.
  12. So they aren't trading Anderson, you know they love Micah,so it would take a whole lot to get him, and Montas surely won't move for a rental. The Sox are going to be hanging on to their top guys. No need to get riled up over nothing.
  13. Has it been mentioned anywhere the Sox are dangling EJ or is it just speculation to get some riled up?
  14. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 08:30 AM) If we're going to trade someone like Montas or Adams, I'd much prefer a guy who will be here longer than 2015. I would be shocked if they traded any of their top guys for a rental.
  15. I have ripped KW as much as anybody, but one thing he has totally excelled at is trading prospects. With very few exception, most he trades wind up as guys who wouldn't help.
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 11:05 PM) Is he a lousy fielder at third? We need that defense we've been getting from Saladino. Can Alvarez play D? If not, pass. He was so bad at 3B they moved him to 1B where he is probabky worse than Dunn.
  17. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 08:32 PM) God f***ing damnit. Why, the correct Sox need to score some runs,
  18. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 08:16 PM) Sanchez hit 8th (with Flowers 9th) last night and we scored 9 or 10 runs. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Robin is going with the Joe Maddon pitcher hit 8th theory tonight.
  19. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 08:07 PM) I can say with certainty that he doesn't hustle as hard as he can/should on gappers or balls hit down the line. I do not agree.
  20. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 08:05 PM) Shuck has been very, very solid this year. He's our only corner outfielder who hustles, and he hits well. You can say a lot of negative about Avi, but you can't say he doesn't hustle.
  21. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 07:57 PM) Is this really a thing? They claim they have 2 camera angles in every park that no one has access to except the reviewers in NY. Seems like a tall tale to me.
  22. I think the 2 secret MLB cameras is BS. I think it is to make people think this camera that doesn't exist shows something they couldn't see.
  23. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 07:41 PM) There are two legitimate criticisms you can use to explain why we have a non-elite (but non-horrible) farm system. First is that we have drafted badly, which at least until around the Sale draft is hard to argue with. You can lump in international scouting as well. Wilder looms large even after all this time. Second is not that we have traded out of our farm, but that we haven't done enough trading into it. You could argue that years we have gone for it we should have instead moved our big league assets to reload our minor leagues. Somewhere between those two is the publicized fact that until the draft slot system was in place, Reinsdorf more or less despised the idea of investing money in draft picks. I suspect the Joe Borchard signing had a significant and lasting effect as he thought about the nice big leaguers he could have gotten for that money instead. Part of the reason for a farm system is to be used for trade. The White Sox got a lot more value for the players they drafted than the players they drafted actually provided. They didn't draft well, up until Dunn, they hadn't spend more than $20 million on another team's free agent since Albert Belle, yet they had some good teams. They weren't really in a mode to trade their players for prospects, but recently things have become better with Jaye and Webb, and Montas
