QUOTE (ptatc @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 08:49 PM) Sure he was, in the checkbook. By keeping him down they are extending his time before free agency. This Boras knows and will use ity against them come negotiation time. the difference between between Rodon and Bryant is Bryant has proven himself in the minors. Rodon has not. He only pitched a few games. If he leads the minors in wins or ERA or whatever for the entire year next year and the Sox don't call him up, then you have a case. Not mention the innings limit for this year and next. rodon walked 4.7 batters/ 9 innings. In the MLB that may get him in trouble. He has things to work on. I don't see much that Bryant needed to work on. The difference between him and Rodon is Rodon would have to spend all of next season in the minors and potentially not be called up in 2016. The cubs have cost Bryant one year of free agency already which could be upwards of $20M down the road.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 01:44 PM) Okay great. What's the difference between 464 losses over a 5 year period and filling in gaps to "Compete" while falling short of the playoffs? I'd rather have the losses and everything that comes with it: higher draft pick, more bonus pools both internationally and in the amateur draft, higher waiver priority during the season, payroll flexibility). Here is the thing, there is no guarantee that they are going to win. Also for the last four years their fans have not had any glimmer of hope to watch since day one. Sorry but I am fine with an 82 win team that I enjoy watching win from time to time that is in the playoff conversation. The White Sox winning a world series does nothing to make my life better. Each day and each victory stand alone as giving me something enjoyable to do that day. I do not make or lose money on their victories my life is no better when they win or lose. What it does is gives me enjoyment in those small windows. Closing that window for 5 years with the hopes it will open......ok. Dan Bernstein makes it sound like everything is black and white. If you are not the champion you wasted a season watching. I don't agree with that. If the White Sox played last night and won, is your life any different thant if they lost 100 games. Maybe my opinion of sports is way out of line. I enjoyed the Blackhawks run last year but at this point in time last year and 2002 mean nothing in the grand scheme of my life. Passing time for three hours enjoying it from time to time is all I care about.

QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Sep 30, 2014 -> 11:04 AM) This is essentially it, Brady can longer make up for having a crappy surrounding offense and now is also part of it. He will lite the Bears up like there is no tomorrow. -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 11:42 AM) Bernstein called out Wittenmeyer and Telander and basically everyone at the Sun-Times for being stupid about the Cubs. Bernstein was 100% correct too. The SunTimes doesn't listen when the Cubs speak. They are like the voice of the meatball fan. Wittenmeyer wrote an article about how Kris Bryant would leave the Cubs in 6 years because he's mad that they are jerking him around. Bernstein was saying that is totally false and that Bryant is on board with the way the Cubs have handled the situation. Bernstein was asking if there were any quotes from Bryant to backup Gordon's claims and of course there aren't any. Wittenmeyer is a goof. I don't know, Bernstein seems to really like the cubs plan more than anyone. He almost wants to be he guy to sit back and say, see I told you they were right.

QUOTE (juddling @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 08:42 AM) SOA....wow......bloody season already......... Yep

what did Bernstein say about Gordon Wittenmeyer yesterday? Wittenmeyer told Mully and Hanley that Bernstein could kiss his ass (well butt) this morning.

Pirates Orioles maybe KC No interest in any of the others. These playoffs are like the 1970's

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 02:06 PM) 2014 Sierra .233/.268/.346/.614 Danks .220/.306/.294/.600 What really is interesting is taking Sierras line after coming to the White Sox vs Danks not including his first stint here this year where he was awful (taking out a 4/41 streak), and only looking at him after he came back the second time and looked like a different player. For Sierra is is 133 PA's for Danks it is over 72. Sierra .280/.316/.424/.740 Danks .294/.360/.353/.713 A lot of filtering going on there. They would make nice 4th and 5th outfielder and organizational depth. -

The thing about football is more than any other sport coaching can make you better. These guys at the big schools also have professionals on their staff and pay very well to retain them. You can get by with some not so talented players in college if your staff can coach them up. In the NFL as pointed out earlier there is less margin for error. I don't recall many big time players becoming academically ineligible. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 25, 2014 -> 01:38 PM) The NFL has people begging to join your roster because space is so limited. Scouting and drafting is extremely important but there is almost zero "selling" of your team to players. If a player is begging to join a roster they are not very good. At free agency signing day, the worthy free agents are not waiting outside a team's headquarters to sign with their dream team. While not the same recruiting, if your front office is not doing their job there is little you can do about that. The NFL also does not have boosters to help make these players see how great their life can be. -

A very good college coach has a life time job. Every NFL coach is one injury away from being on the hot seat. -
What is the difference between tony Gwynn and Derek Jeter? Location, championships and the rest of staying out of trouble and what not are all BS. I related more to Gwynn than Jeter as person. Baseball is a team game and Jeter had the benefit of playing on a team that could spend and do whatever it had to to win. Jeter is a good player but we do not need the tributes that he is getting. I cant wait for him to be on the Fox broadcast as early as this year so we can now see how brilliant he is.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 23, 2014 -> 12:36 PM) Got to love his instincts and his ability to be around the ball. Great that Tillman is traveling with the squad. I hope he is doing everything he can to mentor Fuller. Still, he is a rookie so we should expect some rookie mistakes but great to see. Also nice to see our young dlineman making an impact as well. His football pedigree is better than Kyle Long's. Tillman is icing on the mentoring cake. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 23, 2014 -> 09:35 AM) Just wondering, who was on what side of the fence? Mike and Mike and their experts trying to explain how he will be good Mully and Hanley basically said he sucked. The Bears gave him every opportunity to beat them and he would not take it, -

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 23, 2014 -> 09:26 AM) Eh, I don't care, that stuff tends to even out over the year. I don't care if this is a lucky year like 01. I'm glad we finally have a rookie class playing. But that said, no more injuries please. We've had enough. I can't wait to get Slauson back. No hurry on Garza though. De AL Puenta looked pretty damn good. -

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 23, 2014 -> 09:26 AM) That call was garbage. I don't see how. Jeffery grabbed the DB's arm and pulled him around. The initial contact on Jeffrey was an arm bar by the defender. If he does not stick his arm out Jeffrey does not grab it and is thus impeded from coming back to the ball. It was nto as bad as gruden maade it sound as he never did give it up. The fumble.....well that was really bad officiating. BTW the Mike and Mike Show and the Mulley and Hanley show have two very different perspectives on how good the Jets starting QB is. Listening to both this morning was amazing. -

The jets were stopped on 4th down last evening but he HL decided to change where he spotted the ball. He comes in inside the yard to gain than runs around the player and ends up on the other side of teh 30. The DPI early in the game was the right call btw -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 21, 2014 -> 11:23 PM) Thanks for the update. I just did a google on Steve Nye and see he was canned at York and is an assistant now at Montini. Seems like a guy with a good attitude from the article I read. It's funny. I was at the Kansas football game against Central Michigan and Martez Walker scored his first college touchdown and looked damn good in a 14-point loss to horrific Kansas. I thought I recognized the name. After the game I went down there and found him by the bus and indeed he's the Brother Rice grad. We had a nice chat and he said he enjoyed his time at Rice. He said he drove in every day from Orland Park, wherever that is. We talked some Rice Xs and Os but I won't violate his trust. Very nice kid and I think he might be a good one at Central Michigan. I hope so. You do not know where Orland Park is? Google him, there is a pretty good story behind his upbringing he was from Robbins and hada poor family life and then moved in with a family in Alsip. If he makes the NFL they may make a movie about it. Really good kid. -

QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 19, 2014 -> 02:05 PM) Cubs scored 3 in the first off Kershaw? That's unpossible. Edwin Jackson didn't make it out of the first. What a terrible pitcher. Edwin Jackson and their bullpen are ideal for what the cubs need nowadays.
