QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 10, 2014 -> 06:12 AM) Utopia was a bit predictable, but I'm going to give it a little more time. Anyone catch Sons of Anarchy? I knew it was going DARK, but that was a lot for the first episode. Basically, it's going to be a swath of destruction throughout the whole season, just don't know how long Gemma can last before the truth comes out finally. It's not going to happen quickly, Sutter will let it percolate...her and Jax have to become as tight as ever to fit the Hamlet parallels as the ultimate tragic finale unfolds over the arc of the final season. Still enjoy watching Jimmy Smits' character whenever he's given something to do. It was pretty good. The Gemma thing dragging on is a pain and really brings the show down for me but it is still a good show

Great quote: "We're at war Dick and we're going to find out who did this and we're going to kick their ass."

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 10, 2014 -> 09:27 PM) With only a few weeks left in the year, am I the only one that feels this MLB season has sucked? The most covered stories in the media seem to be Jeter's retirement and the collision rule at home. No record breaking statistics, etc. this year to get intrigued by. Was just thinking the same thing seems like after the ASB baseball just ended.

I think the White Sox have more MLB proven talent while the cubs have Rizzo. Maybe the minor league talent works but you never know. One thing for certain is none of those bats come equipped with above average defensive skill. Pitching and defense win and the cubs lack both. I think Rodon is the best prospect of both teams as well and a commodity every team in baseball would love to have. The White Sox have 4 starting LHP something no team can claim to have.....well 3 1/2 with Danks. The cubs sweep of the White Sox in 2013 was a bad thing for the cub.

Roger has to get Obama to announce an invasion of Iraq this evening. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 10, 2014 -> 06:18 AM) I'm amazed by how many kids still don't realize that if you post bad stuff on social media, people will see it and you will get in trouble. I am amazed by the number of people that think that taking nude photos of themselves is something that needs to be done.

2014-2015 NFL Football thread

Cutler is a more talented QB than McCown there is no question there McCown can efficiently use a system and the coaches can coach him up to be successful, if they are good coaches I just really have not seen Cutler grow since he has been here. I have seen him get a boatload of talent placed around him including one of the best O Line coaches in the game which has led to increased numbers but the results for the team have not changed. -
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 10, 2014 -> 11:04 AM) "What a great shot that is; that's baseball." Great comment. I was watching the cubs yesterday because of the Blue Jays starting pitcher and Len Kasper seems to almost be over the top in trying to use advanced metics to explain the game. He was trying at one point to explain how Jose Bautista was clutch but that there is no such thing as clutch he is just a very good hitter. There seems to be this growing crowd that feels that baseball is a mathematical problem to be solved with each pitch and the game itself and score is secondary. kasper is damn good but sometimes I was like......huh?

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 10:52 PM) That's incredible man; these are very much like Wayne Gretzky stats. Thanks for sharing the piece. Wouldn't mind if Hahn traded Danks for Chapman one bit. Before comparing him to Gretzky look at the stats for k per 9 innings and how recent they are in that article. This is just as much a product of how hitters have no problem striking out as it does how good Chapman is.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Sep 10, 2014 -> 08:28 AM) Cutler is that Andy Dalton class. Not really good, but probably better then someone you would replace them with. So you are kind of stuck with them. I do think he will be on a different team in a couple of years. The problem is those teams sit around 7-9 to the 10-6 range and get bounced in the playoffs or just miss them. These guys are death to a team becasue of the salary cap because they can not beat the good teams. -

Driving in this morning this was the only thing covered on both sports talk and was on WLS and WGN. I am still trying to figure out what changed and why this is now a major story. A story yes but it was a story months ago. How did people think he knocked her out? -

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 04:52 PM) I don't know, receivers throw their arms up all the time, doesn't mean you throw to them. Throw Me the Damn Ball.....that is about all you need to know about receivers. They are always open. Cutler has his good days and his bad days. Hopefully the good out weigh the bad..... He is paid to win games not to manage games or lose games. -

You would have to investigate the depths to which the Hope Solo case could be compared to this. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 10:19 AM) One problem...there's a guy being paid a lot more money to put up a 5.12 ERA. A lot easier to eat Danks salary if you have a cheap replacement. This was why Keppinger was let go. Eating Danks salary is fine if Noesi or Rodon can take his spot. If you have to spend another $10M to fill the 5 spot then there is a problem. -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 08:53 AM) Forgetting level of punishment for a moment... how pathetic is it that it took TMZ to dig up this video, when the police and the NFL either couldn't (incompetent) or chose not to watch it (frightening). How do you know the police or the NFL did not see it? If she will not press charges what relevance does the video do to the police? -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 8, 2014 -> 10:46 PM) This is why I don't get the other thread that has the Sox winning 90 next year. What is suddenly going to make THAT a decent bullpen? The sox have some things in place that are tough to get most of all a glut of left handed starters. The holes they have can be filled. Flowers is fine not ideal but fine. The rest can be gotten.

Some nice weekend series at home. Damn Milwaukee is in May and weekdays

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 5, 2014 -> 11:26 PM) Robin isn't the greatest but at this point deserves a chance to manage a team with a roster projected to finish first, not last. If he's willing to keep managing the Sox, might as well let him for a while. No he doesn't he has no knowledge.

QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 5, 2014 -> 03:13 PM) re the 4 man shift ..... that was unbelievable, why not lay down a bunt to the right side or as greg said slap hit it That was an outfielder. Third-baseman was in position. I thought Washington was fired already.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Sep 5, 2014 -> 02:11 PM) SOA... I wanted to stop watching completely after that. I literally got choked up. Personally I think that was when the show jumped the shark. I watch and like the show but it really took something out of it that they were not able to replace. It had a wow effect but it had no positive impact on advancing the show.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 5, 2014 -> 12:08 AM) Ok. So if I have a lawyer friend for free would it make sense to at least test the water? Any attorney would take the case and a third if they win. City would settle out of court and give you something. If there was notice it is a decent five figure win.

People fail to realize Verlander was injured this past offseason and may not have been fully healed or back to 100% the entire season.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 05:39 PM) Did anyone believe Alcantara would have more homers than Baez? That's been a surprise, although overall his offensive numbers indicate more or less a slightly below average MLB CFer...and he's doing on the job training defensively. Of course, Soler's the new "golden child" of the moment and Baez has been kind of been forgotten about, but his season, were it not for September...is to the point where you'd have to consider sending him back down or shutting him down if that was an option. So he has no choice but to struggle and try to battle his way out of it, which the Cubs ultimately believe he'll be able to do. Didn't Alcantara come up about a month or two before Baez? A part of me thought Baez was brought up to generate hype and if he failed, he was not a Theo guy, same with Starlin. GM's love their guys more than the previous regime, you see that in every sport.
