QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 07:50 AM) I thought last night was freaking hilarious. The lines Phil Dunphy, or should I say Clive Bixby, was dropping at the bar were something else. The best line was at the resturant where they are talking about being at dinner at 6:30 and Phil says, "this place is on fire" and it was all old folks. Claire and Phil make that show. The storylines for Cam and Mitchell are usually pretty bad.
  2. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 12:40 PM) I know the Angels just traded for Vernon Wells, but why would they make that trade for a FA to be who they might not re-sign? They only make that trade if they know they have what it takes to sign him as will any team that gets involved this year. They trade for the right to deal with him exclusively. The Rays are not trading for him or the Twins but teh Yanks, Angels and possibly Red Sox would. I still do not think the cubs have the money to do it.
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 11:58 AM) Anyone get their Juan Pierre Bobblehead in the mail? Thanks for backing up my AJP and Jake Peavy one with the likeness of probably my least favorite player. Yep. Funny tidbit. I have a friend that has four tickets in the 27 game plan and collects bobbleheads and never gets these in that plan. I have no interest in Bobbleheads so they sit in a box in a closet.
  4. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 11:26 AM) well he would still be a FA at the end of the year, unless they do a trade contingent on a 48 hour window for an extension. I do agree with you that it's curious people keep mentioning the Cubs with Pujols and completely ignoring that the team is having some cash flow problems at the moment, even with some contracts expiring, and again, if he leaves it will be for money, so it's not like the Cubs are going to get some sort of discount with him. That is exactly what has to happen. The Cardinals can only get the value for him if he signs an extension. Without the extension you will get he value of two draft picks for him. If the Yanks are not playing well I wonder they would move Tex and some youth for him.
  5. When did dog fighting and hunting get confused here. The problem is not that Mike Vick killed dogs, welfare agencies do this everyday. It was the malicious manner in which he breed the dogs to kill for sport, oh and for money. Buehrle hunts. Last I saw this was legal in this country so he is fine doing it. The man is entitled to his opinion and he gave it.
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 8, 2011 -> 01:17 PM) False. The hype has died down a bit, but they will sell out. Have you been to the games? People still go and really get into the games, records be damned, even as the prices have topped all other games. In fact, if the Cubs suck, it at least gives their fans one series to look forward to, beating the Sox. I could not get face value for my Saturday night Club Level seats on StubHub last year. They were $75 each. I used to go to all three games every year but now only try to make one. They are no bigger than any other game for me and really not worth the effort they used to be. Maybe I am just getting old. They will most likely sell out but if the prices are $50 for s*** seats I would not be surprised if they did not. Weekday games in June impact this in a big way. The resale market for the weekday cubs games at wrigley last year was very depressed.
  7. I think if he does not resign they trade him to a team that wants to sign him. Think Angels for Morales, Trout and Weaver or something along those lines.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 7, 2011 -> 07:16 PM) [/b] Nothing personal, but, good. These should be weekday games. We know they are selling out, so why take up prime dates? Stick them on days when we don't sell out. Hell I wish they were weekday games in April, so we could get an extra 30,000 people in those crappy days versus summer weekend dates which would have 30k at them anyway. If those tickets are in the $50-$100 price range I bet they are easy to get and will not sell out. The steam for this series is getting really old especially if the cubs suck this year.
  9. Where and the hell was this guy going to go? Was he going to live at the hospital for the rest of his life? I am sure Christ Advocate would have been happy to pay the $500 bill to transport him to Park Forest instead of the $60,000 to move him closer to his family.

QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 7, 2011 -> 10:24 AM) It's getting great reviews so I am going to DVR it. Just saw Netflix is streaming the whole series of "The Larry Sanders Show". I have always wanted to watch it but never did. "Hey Now," as good a show as has ever been made. IFC has been running it lately. Every episode is good.
  11. People that work-out on cardio machines and talk on the phone. I wear an ipod turned up all the way so I can not hear them but the sight of it irks me, I do not know why. Also, people that work on a cardio machine for 10 minutes or less. I sweat like a pig, I wipe my machines off but if I do cardio for more than 90 minutes I think I begin stink a little. I do not care, it is gym that is going to happen. Sorry. I am hygenic so I do not think I offend anyone, at least he person I workout with does not say anything. The people that smell like smoke though do getto me as to the perfume folks. The women that wear excessive amounts of jewelry also get to me.
  12. It's Jorge Orta but I am not sure why.
  13. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 09:32 AM) Agree completely. I see no whining here, I see a guy who has decided the parameters within which he's willing to play, which I have great respect for. To me, that looks a lot more professional than hanging on by a thread for years. I agree he was in denial about wanting to start in the OF, he thought he was still good out there, and he wasn't anymore. But him deciding not to play 4th OF for $3.3M last year, to me, does say he wasn't scrounging for cash. He wanted to play on his terms. That is fine but than go home and call it a career, no need to read about how good he thinks he is. Thome is doing what Dye should do if he really wants to play baseball. Obviously Dye is not really looking to play and I really do not understand what his point is. His skillset has diminished and he either wants to play or he doesn't.

Getting back to the bigger topic of dog s*** on sidewalks. After any snowfall of greater than 3 inches when it melts, the streets of Lincoln Park are a downright disaster area of this stuff. There is a buzz in the air about our impending doom.

When you all clean up your dog crap, I will use pet friendly salt.

The picture of the salt I use says pet friendly and has picture of a little kid playing with a dog......it may be pet friendly but it eats the hell out of my concrete stairs.
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 31, 2011 -> 09:51 AM) What did I miss? Watkins asked Carol what has she been doing for the city for the last 15 years. A real good question. Carol's response, "you were high on coke". she never answered the question. Carol does not even realize what a fool she looked like as that is what makes Watkins story a good one. Watkins has been clean and sober for 35 years and has a very compelling story, Carol, not so much
  18. Carol put on quite the show of ignorance yesterday.....anyone that backed her needs to really reevaluate their ability to make descicions. The thought that Rahm not in the race and her actually having a backing is scary what could have happened.
  19. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 28, 2011 -> 01:15 PM) I'm disagreeing that 3 or 4 neighborhoods are more important than the city as a whole. Your Alderman is the issue not the mayor in some of these cases. There are too many alderman that are not qualified for the job and that is what kills a neighborhood. Rahm is the best guy to try and get the city back on track or keep it going the way that it currently is run. There are no other candidates with the background to weather the storm SS2K talks about. Rahm will be in office as long as he wants in my opinion.
  20. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jan 28, 2011 -> 12:34 PM) 1983 Rookie of the Year and lone Sox representative in the '83 All-Star game at Comiskey Park Don Kessinger Beanbag chair (he was overlooked) let's get back on track Saenz
  21. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Jan 28, 2011 -> 09:04 AM) Played "The Whammer" in The Natural . Oh wait, that was Joe Don Baker. Fred Manrique Shopped at the grocery store I worked at ((Bere was not young in 2000)) Bob James
  22. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 28, 2011 -> 09:52 AM) I just can't help but think that Rahm will be an extension of Daley's policies. We'll have our world class downtown area and most other neighborhoods will be ignored. Probably but I think the status quo is fine which he should be able to hold and hopefully in time he figures out how to improve things. You need to remember that Lincoln Park and the north side of the city have improved greatly over time because of the world class downtown and its sprawl into the north and more recently the south. The downtown is slowly moving south and west and hopefully Rahm can keep this going. The other candidates could have caused the city to regress. Rahm knows how Washington works and he knows how the folks that back Obama work and that is very important. That is Daley's biggest strength. It is not ideal politics but it is best for the city in my mind.
  23. The ruling is actually good for Chicago. While I am not a Rahnm backer I think he is the best current candidate. For the love of god if Carol had somehow squeaked in. Huberman is the current version of Chico, takes a lot of jobs within the city and does nothing with them and moves before anyone can figure out what he is doing. Rahm has worked with Clinton and Bush so he will nto be overwhelmed by the job. I can not say that much for the others.
  24. QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 27, 2011 -> 03:27 PM) Can we just let the Freddy stuff go away, please? Anyone we pluck from AA/AAA would be just as good or bad You can't rely on Garcai for the whole season but to start the season and add insurance when Peavy comes back ,sure. Have you seen the s*** that is called up from AA/AAA to pitch?
  25. The Pittsburgh Steelers are the model franchise in all of sports in my mind. The Yanks have always had the money to spend and the large market. In a league of hard cap aprity they are always right there. Look at the success the Steelers have had. Hell in the last ten years they can go toe to toe with Pats and the 30 before that, forget about it. They are what the Raiders could have been. I think they are grossly underrated and the Rooney's are the reason why. 3 coaches in the last 40 years.
