  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 02:12 PM) If Manny simply isn't ready to go today, they may find some way to keep him inactive for 24 more hours until the rosters expand, and thus not have to lose a reliever. Dale Tallon agrees with you. Although they could gamble that the game ends before midnight or do soemthing like that and maybe not lose the reliever for the game.
  2. Manny likes to shove it right up the old wazoo when people are against him. The Sox need this mentality and I think he can perform.
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 11:07 AM) You can't DL someone for 1 day, he'd have to be on for 15. The best suggestion I have seen is to option someone down to Bristol, whose season ends in a few days, then bring them back (you can get around the 10 day option rule if they are assigned to a minor league team and that team's season ends). Probably would have to be a reliever, someone new, like Santos or Sale. Santos is out of options.
  4. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 06:42 PM) Soldier Field is atrocious, but you can't really blame that on Daley. He wanted an indoor venue to host many different things. Either way, I've never met anyone who likes Soldier Field's design. PLUS THEY HAVE BLUE SEATS!!! As far as the Cell, I like it a ton. They have come a long way with that ballpark. I don't forsee them moving for a while though. I'd probably say maybe in 50 years if that. The United Center is a place that should've been moved. It's in a bad location, but it's arguably the best venue we have. The United Center is actaully one of the easier venues to drive to as all major highways have access to it. As for Daley I never heard him pitch an indoor venue. The Forbes valuation of the Bears and the the debacle that has become Chicago finances are the issues. Daley did some great things for the city in the early to mid-90's now it is a joke. Millenium Park and Soldier Field are the most wasted $1.6B you could have without actually burning the money. There is no reason why the Bears are not in an indoor faciltiy or the Sox playing with a retracatable roof. The Final Four, Super Bowl and now one of the Big Ten tournamants/championship games would be played in Chicago annually. The NFL is willing to play outdoors to get NY a game...... A smart NFL owner should try and move a team to Chicago and build a stadium like this in the suburbs. The Bears could use an onus to get better as they are as poorly run as the Wirtz run Hawks. Chicago fans deserve better.
  5. Aren't x-ray techs about as capable as reading an X-Ray as a newspaper photographer. I get echocaridograms and my wife ultrsounds and the person administoring the test nly knows how the machine works and what they are suppossed ot take pictures of.
  6. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 08:01 AM) LOL, I understand it looked bad, but its funny to go back and read this thread with everyone writing off his season. Man, that sucks about the X-Ray tech. Not cool. I bet the guy is a huge Michael Scott fan...I think it is great.
  7. Accordign to Guillen he would not play today if he was on a red eye. A red eye leaves at midnight not 6AM There are thousands of people that got on a plane at 6AM that are expected to work during their flight and as soon as they land. How does Fuentes end up with the Twins in time to save a game almost immediately and the Sox may now play 5 games after being awarded Manny rights. Nothing with this team is ever easy.....I understand it is not their fault.
  8. I like Jenks but he needs to make these easy, jesus
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 09:00 PM) 2006 was the worst of all...the pitchers had nothing left in the tank by the end. ya but they won over 90 games and were beat by good teams....also as I was watching the 2005 post season I thought that would happen and was ok with it. I think it is more indicitive of the fact that sustained success results from a big money team and deep farm or in the Yanks case the ability to take on $$$ to get over the hump.
  10. I am asking this honestly but the Sox seem to always run out of gas. This year and 2000 come to mind as well as either 2003 or 2004 when Esteban got torched in Minnesota.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 02:43 PM) The only reason he isn't a convicted felon is because baseball isn't releasing his drug tests from 2003 if you believe the reports. There could be a bunch of trafficing and using charges against him to do with that alone. but he hasn't half of baseball would be in jail if that is the case.
  12. QUOTE (bobryansson @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 02:34 PM) Let's carry this to its logical extreme, just as a mind exercise. I am absolutely not minimizing the horrors of the soon-to-be mentioned individual to the completely-trivial-in-comparison level of cheating or quitting in a sport-as-entertainment. I am absolutely not raising the cheating/quitting transgressions to any higher level than to use them as evidence of, or lack thereof, a certain moral fiber that I would like to see in the sporting events I choose to watch as entertainment. If Hitler could hit the ball like Babe Ruth, would you be in favor of him being the DH for the White Sox? For those who say they'd not, yet are in favor of Manny doing so, where is the line of differentiation? I draw that line at convicted felon.....I think Hitler had a decent shot at being convicted of some sort of felony offense. What crime against society did Ramirez comit? He violated his own body but so did a poster on this site on more then one occassion within this thread alone.....and at work none the less.
  13. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 02:18 PM) Yeah it's fine but it's just a middle of the pack, not very memorable venue. You get what you pay for. The real disaster is Soldier Field.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 02:00 PM) If you're like me, it might have had something to do with that pretty good hitter the Sox called up right around then to play 1b. He was kinda tall, IIRC. The 90 / 91 Sox were a whole bunch of fun to watch. If they hadn't let LaRussa go to Oakland you never know how things would have ended up for better or worse.
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 01:46 PM) And if you're paying him $4M to play for a month why not pay $1K to fly him here in a private jet? Becasue the Sox have had great success against Mitch Talbot.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 01:32 PM) That was Albert Belle. so was the thermostat
  17. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 01:03 PM) For $160 million it's a pretty nice park. Maybe they should have had a little more "vision" like Cleveland and Baltimore. They just built it 2-4 years too soon. Isn't Baltimore older than the cell?
  18. The best Manny story was when he ran over the trick-or-treaters or he beat the crap out of the thermostat....oh my these are classics. Manny impacts every hitter in the lineup. This is the difference between he and Quentin and/or Rios. If he bats third, Beckham and Pierre get better pitches to hit as you do not want to walk them to potentially get to Manny. Manny is a hitter pure and simple. Similar in ways to Konerko is this year and Quentin was in 2008 except pitchers know this and it affects them more than a guy having a career year. Manny is as clutch as they get and hte White Sox need this. Manny gets the big hits late as well as putting a game out of reach early. Stats be damned if Manny wants to play in the bandbox for the month of September the Sox are much better off for it.
  19. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 12:42 PM) What a moron. At the time the overwhelming support was for the current configuration. The main disagreement was not sinking the stadium thus giving the upper deck the appreance of a lower rise than it actually had. If you ever see a picture of the new joint going up next to the old joint you could see where the problems were.
  20. Did anyone realize that the Bears were hardly in Bourbannis and when they were they hardly practiced. For a team putting a new system in place, and a complex one at that, they do not seem to work really hard at it. I really can see them only winning 3 games this year as the schdule keeps getting tougher.
  21. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 10:16 AM) It actually is. And most of us have said the same thing: Manny may not get the Sox to the playoffs, but they have to try something. Stats may say he is good for one win.....I have watched this team all year and I think it will be more.
  22. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 09:49 AM) BNightengale #mlb #whitesox #dodgers Manny is on way to Cleveland. Should be in Sox lineup tonite. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nice.
  23. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 09:09 AM) But, wouldn't everybody want to see a DFA of you know who? Actually with rosters expanding as we saw over the weekend, Jones and Kotsay have roles on thsi team, DH just is not one of them.
  24. If Carlos Quentin and Alex Rios were doing their job the Sox would not need Manny. Don't be mad at Manny for being Manny or KW for getting him. Be mad at Quentin and Rios for forcing his hand. The Sox are not making a run without him as the current nos. 3 & 5 are not getting it done.
  25. QUOTE (beckham15 @ Aug 29, 2010 -> 05:14 PM) if we do get him next weekend against the redsox should be interesting....manny against boston nice! That is the stuff Manny eats up and could give this team a boost.
