QUOTE (rangercal @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 09:46 PM) Willy Mota and Miguel Socolovich I am confused again with the guy they got in Rangers deal that was not part of the Danks deal.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 09:44 PM) Don't we still have a couple decent minor leaguers we grabbed from the Red Sox? Ya he was decent in the lower levels.

QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 09:40 PM) After watching it 1000 times, I still don't know how Mike Lamb missed that 3rd strike against Cotts in Game 1. You realize it is Mike Lamb you are talking about right?

QUOTE (rangercal @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 09:32 PM) I thought he pitched good. He deserved a standing O . Only 2 ER. Most pitchers would have wet the bed like Javy. for $20M per he sure as s*** better.

"Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Chicago Cubs NLDS"
QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 09:24 PM) You should know my style enough to know I'm one of the most intense Sox fans there is. However, I just feel like we sold our soul to win 3 straight games after the terrible stretch. I agree with you 100% the growth of Floyd and Danks temper anything that happens as there is more than a glimmer of hope for 2009. I do not expect them both to bounce back from huge stressful performances their last time out. I want them to win but am not blinded as a fan enough to see that the offense is going to make it really hard. In my mind this makes me a realist and no less a fan.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 09:40 PM) Manny Ramirez is the Boggyman. I honestly believe he changes the game by his mere presence. There was a writer on Mully and Hanley talking about Manny and he said that he has changed the entire attitude of the Dodgers and is incredible. As for the game. He is the guy you are thinking about four hitters in advance as he can hit any pitch from any pitcher any time. He forces a pitcher to stress over the number 9 hitter in order to keep Manny from coming up with men on. He could be the best pure right handed hitter even. Gotta say he is fun to watch when not playing against your team.

Chicago @ Tampa Bay - ALDS Game 1
The organizational depth is another point as to why this game is where it is. No reason at all why Uribe should have batted in the bases loaded situation. Thome, Griffey or Wise playing tomorrow is another.

Chicago @ Tampa Bay - ALDS Game 1
I really want to think that is sort of a hangover affect and that they will be fine but this is what the Tampa and Toronto pitching in particular has done to the White Sox all season and I am struggling to see them turn it around. I liked OC for a while but I am back to hoping he is gone soon. The pitching can only shut a team out for so long.

Chicago @ Tampa Bay - ALDS Game 1
I think Vazquez needed to start game 1 either way. The sad thing really is why didn't Richard start a game the last two weeks of the season?????? His outing agaisnt NY was steller and then he was non-existant. The offense needs to pick it up.

QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 03:26 PM) I think that will be easier said than done. Omar Minaya begs to differ. There are plenty of teams willing to take on that risk. Sad thing is, who is the Sox #4 and #5 then next year?

Chicago @ Tampa Bay - ALDS Game 1
As bad as Vazquez was the offense has been worse in my opinion.

Chicago @ Tampa Bay - ALDS Game 1
The reality is that the Sox are not a good hitting team. Simply look at the averages. They run into a pitch every now and then. Average pitchers can easily overmatch them if they execute the scouting report. There is no pressure on the pitcher to change anything up.

Chicago @ Tampa Bay - ALDS Game 1
OC is not the situational hitter that Guillen thinks he is. That was a real bad move there.

Chicago @ Tampa Bay - ALDS Game 1
Vazquez is a servicable #4 inning eater. He has gotten beat by a good hitter today. The fact is the offense has been not existent in three huge games except for a big swing here and there. Both are equal to blame for making this harder than it should be. Now is the time to get some runs.

Chicago @ Tampa Bay - ALDS Game 1
QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 02:10 PM) Yes, he caught a fly ball hit by Casilla on Tuesday that he didn't even move on for a few seconds after it was hit. I am all for enjoying the ride but I want to see good baseball and some fight that is all. Wise is brutal in the outfield. The double Monday should have been caught.

Chicago @ Tampa Bay - ALDS Game 1
I am not trying to beat a dead horse or get up on my high horse but I sit in left field in the third row right behind DeWayne Wise. He can not judge a fly ball he freezes on every single ball put in play. Nice job Javy.

Chicago @ Tampa Bay - ALDS Game 1
QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 01:59 PM) For the 100th time, Ozzie is playing Wise in LF because he doesn't feel like Swisher has the speed to help Griffey when he's out in CF. Ozzie said before the series that you will always see Wise in LF if Griffey is playing. That would be fine if Wise was a good defensive player but he is not. I think Swisher is better suited to cover ground in left than Wise is.

Shields simply throws strikes and that is all he throws he does not dick around. The Sox need to look to go the other way.

Chicago @ Tampa Bay - ALDS Game 1
QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 01:49 PM) You know Swisher is in the doghouse if Brian starts over him against Kazmir tomorrow I hope they both start. I have taking a real dislike to Swisher as he has done nothing but there is always the potential there. Wise......not so much. I think Anderson is in center and Swisher at first with Konerko at DH with Wise starting as I think Guillen likes his defense for some reason.

I am really struggling to see why Wise continues to get run out there. Come on Javy.

For those who were at the game....
The play of the game in my mind was the DP in the first. If you remember the fouls balls were hit hard up until that point. After that it seemed that Danks took it to another level. From the outfield where I sit, Gomez ball didn't look like anything special. Konerko's was a can of corn but Griffey's double would have been well out of the park if he got it up. Griffey also had a wicked foul that was crushed. I was in line for the can during the Cuddyear inning but that play was probably the biggest of the game. Thome shot was sick. The DP in 8th was huge as was the Anderson catch because it did not allow Mauer and Moreanu to bat. The Twins only sent 29 men to the plate. Remember when Jenks was better against lefties than righties. I wonder if that holds true. Anywho I don't think Gomez hits Jenks last night so the Kubel pinch hit was not a bad move. Gardenhire is a class act and I think Ozzeroo has something that gets his team especially pitchers to really rise to the occasion sans the wilting flower that is Vazquez.
