  1. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 23, 2008 -> 01:48 PM) Gotta love McCain and the GOP's constant effort to divide. WOW, their stance on abortion flies directly in the face of the letting poeple decide line. What a dofus, he is almost becoming as big an embarassment as Palin.
  2. QUOTE (Soxy @ Oct 22, 2008 -> 10:12 AM) I don't read those threads. I read this one. And yeah, it's sexist. I don't like the woman. I think she's dangerous, unqualified, and, well, you all know. But I can't stand sexist jokes about her. There are plenty of other jokes to be made. Now if it was a sophisticated joke about the Republican party about how they nominated a totally unqualified candidate, and suddenly awoke to their "nakedness" in her nomination, then, yeah, I would laugh. I think the way it was worded made it comical to me and give him credit for it. It was in a tasteful context which while in a hot chcik kind of way is one way but it could also be used as a knowingless leader which is how I also took it and made it more funny. You see the story is of an emporer, short chubby guy marching down the street in his "clothes" and thinking he is the s***. This is kind of how I see Palin. Not in a sexist way but in a way that I believe she is well out of her league. I believe her inabiltiy to actually have an interview with a source that may challenge her is scary as hell. Her inabilities I find insulting as she is in serious contention for the mist powerful job in the world and she is very smug about it. In the genereal election thread it stated that her own state is seeming to not really like her. I think the joke worked on a couple of different levels and approve of AHB's message. If McCain choose Bloomberg he would be walking away with this race right now.
  3. Who would you rather have at bat in 9th inning Sunday night with the man on first. If you think every Red Sox fan was wishing they had Manny in the 7th, 8th or 9th on Sunday you are kidding yourself.
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 11:37 AM) As much as I dislike Obama's tax policy ideas, I think even he isn't so economically and politcally stupid as to support this type of move. I agree but if it garners enough support there must be an overriding ideology by the Dems that it would be benefical to pass this through. The fear of Dems controlling policy making ability and even having ideas like this scares the s*** out of me.
  5. Wow are politicans stupid. Does this mean there would be no more 401(K) and everything is then a Roth IRA type of contribution? I really wish McCain would have choosen a better running mate.
  6. I like Charlie Manual and Jamie Moyer. I actually don't not like either team so I will watch and enjoy baseball.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 19, 2008 -> 09:41 PM) Reminds me of (Howell) Cotts, (Balfour) Politte, and (Wheeler) Hermanson Garza/Kazmir/Shields/Price are as good as anything any team in baesball can put out there. The other pieces are obtainable. Imagine if Garza was on Minnesota. How old is Howell???
  8. THe Rays are going to be good for a whiel as that rotation is loaded and they have more in the miinors. For anyone claiming they hate bandwagon fans imagine how they have to feel...they have never won mroe than 70 games in a year. THink about that. WHERE IS DICKIE V!!!!!!!
  9. Whre is our Willy Aybar. Great play Iwamura. Awesome.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 19, 2008 -> 09:33 PM) I bet you they don't next year. Too many innings on all these young guys arms. That K pitch to Varitek was nasty.
  11. Joe Maddon really has misused his bullpen in game 5 and again today. Drew swung at that pitch. The two strikes on Pena were terrible. MLB dropped the cubs from their post season I can't beleive what I am seeing. I love how the Red Sox can work the count and make a pitching staff labor.
  12. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Oct 16, 2008 -> 09:39 AM) Yeah someone in the Jose Molina mould (defensively) would be ideal for a backup catcher. I'd like I-Rod
  13. I have an odd feeling it has something to do with the goaltending situation.
  14. I thought McCain won and then I remembered his running mate and everything fadeed to black and the entire debate was rendered irrelevant in my mind.
  15. $3M does not sound like a -lot. I would think the GOP would want to counter this....
  16. I think Sonnenstine or Jackson could be their closer or even Kazmir if he can not get past he 6th inning on a regular basis. Sonnenstine's control screams lights out closer to me.
  17. I understand that but I find it funny that the guy that replaced him was able to get his team to win do what Lou was suppossed to do. He was a joke with that franchise because he needed to manage not just sit on a big payroll and roll guys out there. I am not comparing his Tampa teams with Maddon's team just the idea that he bailed on that franchise as soon as living in Tampa and close to his family got old and bigger pay day came along. He was brought in to get the franchise to respectabiltiy and he quit on them. I know the GM switch probably helped greatly as well as the trades that brought in Kazmir, Navarro, Jackson and Garza. I just chuckle that the guy that replaced him has won 6 playoff games while Sweet Lou the World Series baseball genius has none.
  18. Does anybody other than myself find humor in the fact that if Lou Pinella was the baseball god that he was thought to be he could have been in the situation Maddon is in? I understand the team is grossly differrent now than it was when he was there but Rocco, Crawford and Josh Hamilton were still in the pipeline with high ceilings. I alos love the older PED guys falling by the wayside. The parityin baseball is really cool to see. Also the Sox series was much closed than this series. The White Sox were in every game.
  19. The thing about retiring 77 as oppossed to the others is that there are banners for those other teams hanging throughout the park. Retiring 77 is the reminder that it may have saved the Chicago White Sox.
  20. If anyone listened to Bernstein on Friday afternoon when they were discussing fighting in hockey it was hte most condesending piece of crap I had ever heard. You could tell he does not liek hockey and this was his way of telling us. How he can lovethe NBA is beyond me. I really do not like either afternoon show. MJ&H seem be taking more of a warm and fuzyy feel to it.
  21. Times I stand up Any concert where the music is loud enough to not hear the person next to you Any type of fight of altercation 9th inning of a no-hitter or world series/playoff game (final batteror last minute of game your team is winning is ok especially with 2 strikes) hot chick leaves sitting view national anthemn after that it is all aribitrary if you ask me
  22. Thanks, you see I think people watch the cub fans and think that is what we are suppossed to do out there. The inability to judge a flyball is comical but I understand that as I suppose most folks only get to see that perspective once or twice a year. Sure I could have dropped a Slayer's gonna get ya next year and see if she understood but at that point I didn't care. I prove my "fanness" by yelling out the triva answer and guessing the attendance within 1,500 people before the number goes up. I really can do this except on the give-away nights where the free tickets do not count. I resist standing up and cheering on the 2 strike thing because as a pessismistic Sox fan I think it is going to inspire the batter to get a hit. I really do believe this and do not cheer on two strikes, ever. I can see from my seats in LF that Aaron Rowand and DeWayne Wise can not judge fly balls or take good routes to balls while Griffey and Brian Anderson are good at it and therefore will boo Wise when he plays what should be a simple single into a double or triple.
  23. I was at the last 5 home Sox games and all were great. I attended 22 games this year so I think I may know a couple of things about being a fan. I had two moms from Orland question my fandom on Sunday because I was not standing up and cheering on the 1-2 pitch with nobody out in the first inning. They had no problem with me talking to their kids all game about baseball though. After the game they both told me and the guy I was with that we are not real fans. I looked at her and told her that she has no business telling me how to be a fan or how to act. I was excited and happy but was not going to stand and cheer every pitch. On Monday I had people all around yelling at me to artifically get excited during the game. Look, I get up and cheer at pivotal points during the game. 2 strikes with two out and runners on. Tying run at the plate, stuff liek that. I am a typical pessimistic Sox fan. I rationalized in July when the Sox played in Texas and KC that this team was not that good. I echo Fathom's statement that the July losses hurt more than Monday's I am not sure why but I think last Tuesday was all I needed from this team for this year.
  24. People in tight clothing really creep me out. Most chicks shouldn't wear clothes that tight either as the over hanging girth is not pretty and a good number of chicks have this.
