LOST!!!!
QUOTE(thedoctor @ Feb 19, 2008 -> 08:27 AM) a few notes on how lost will be handled in the aftermath of the writer's strike. this may have been posted already, and if so my apologies. eight episodes were completed before the strike. we are three episodes into this season and four more episodes will air up until march 13. the show then goes on hiatus for six weeks, and returns with the eighth already completed episode on april 24. apparently that episode worked better as a premiere so they elected to hold it to launch the "second" season. the following week, on may 1, lost will be pushed back to a 10 p.m. time slot following grey's anatomy. from that point, there will be five more episodes this year. because of the strike, there will be 13 total episodes instead of the 16 initially planned. the show's creators said they will work the three additional episodes in over the course of the final two seasons, so we will indeed get the 48 they planned after last season. The impression they have given is this year's storyline will be completed using three less episodes. It will be interesting to see how this plays out but good to hear.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Feb 15, 2008 -> 01:00 PM) http://blackhawks.nhl.com/team/app/?servic...rticleid=353604 Crawford sent back down. He must not have watched the game well enough for Savvy. EDIT to say that if the idea is for Crawford to play against the Wolves on Saturday then be recalled again to watch Sunday's game, then it's the first time I'm sorry that the Hawks moved their affiliate to Rockford. Why not keep him sharp. Lalime will play every game while Khabby is out and he should. Crawford gets the work and doesn't miss a beat with the Hawks. It is not like he is being sent dow nto play a meaningless game while missing the Hawks game. Makes sense to me.

If you thought the subprime mortgage crisis was bad...
QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 15, 2008 -> 03:41 PM) What pisses me off this this scum could have sold her a $50,000 car, but he decided to really take her for all she had and more. He decides she's a stupid idiot who will sign for a more expensive car. And everyone here thinks it's her fault for being that stupid. No way this is a well rehearsed con. And everyone calls her stupid and an idiot, but it's still her fault. I guess this scum found the perfect patsy. Just smart enough but not too smart. Because I know the folks here that rip this lady, would not do that if she was retarded. So she's just stupid enough to fall for this scums plan, but too smart to get any sympathy from anyone but me. So perhaps an IQ of >80 >100 We need to lock up stupid people, they do not deserve any protection. Do not let stupid people shop by themselves. Do not let stupid people buy anything. If they do and they get screwed, too bad, they should have known. The thing that gets me to not really want to feel sorry for her is the $30K she had saved. She was bright enough to save it which puts here above 95% of America. We do not know what her disability was could she have been a con? If she had a good paying job that allowed her to save this much, why would the salesperson not believe she was credible enough to afford it. With the $30K any salesman is going to get you what you want. If she insisted that she could afford it and wanted it, he is going to do what it takes to get her in it or the next BMW dealer will. There are 30,000 good reasons to do whatever it takes. The bank will give her the loan as she is worth the risk. Her best bet would've been to drive it into a lake and call it stolen.

School Shooting and Guns
QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 15, 2008 -> 03:03 PM) What we need are more guns, 150 guns in that room would have stopped that gunman. Imagine 150 students pulling weapons and shooting that bastard. Pity the poor kid who shoots last, nothing left to hit I stand to shot the shooter and the guy behind me does the same thing taking my head off. This was the story line if there is a gun fight and the cops show up how do you know who is the good guy and who is the bad guy when everyone has their weapons drawn and is firing? I heard a really good line about gun legislation. You can not legislate crazy.

School shooting and God, related?
QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Feb 15, 2008 -> 12:40 PM) Each successive generation has rejected the idea of "community" and taken on the cause of the individual. This has led us to the "whatever" generation, the "my so called life" generation, etc. This pace has been quickened by the above technologies. anyway, another time. I think you are right on the money. I believe the main focal point of all of this stems from a lack of respect for life and one another. Look, I am not a tree hugging, anti-abortion hippiee but I beleive that the moral fiber of scoiety is shot and community and parental upbringing is part of it. Society is driven by artifcal ideals implemented through sources outside of the home currently. I believe the deteriation of he family unit through divorce and single parenting has placed the role of instilling values in children now a days on external sources. Drive by shootings and random senseless violence has been around those that live in poverty for years. I am quite certain the first drive by shooting is not a result of a video game but from a lacking of good moral fiber. Kids today are left unattended to learn from sources outside of the home and if these sources send a negative message negative results will happen. Kids and teenagers that have no family strength or communal bond through church, school or friendship with positive influence are lost. Without the village a child can not be raised.

I think the Ben scene was a hallucination or dream at the end or Sayid has access to and from the island and the ending was on the island. I am starting to think Kate and Jack in the finale of season 3 may have been a dream as well........

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 15, 2008 -> 10:03 AM) It's not that a trend would reverse. The concern is that it is the Washington establishment-types that make up the big bulk of superdelegates, making them potential kingmakers in the kind of smokey backroom deal that would give fellow establishment-type Clinton the nomination despite Obama's winning the popular vote and the regular delegates. An Obama win in Texas might be enough to prevent this ugly situation from happening. The problem with this move is all of the middle of the road people that have voted for Obama and feel that they are screwed over by the democratic party whether true or not can then flock over to McCain. I personally think that if it is close Obama gets the nod as he has brought about a resurgence to the race and is garnering quite a following. This is a primary not a general election the Dems need to put up the most winnable choice. As was pointed out earlier the Republicans can go full bore after Hillary and Slick Willie on a personal level. Something Obama really can not. Obama is still new to the game and has to hold back on attacking the machine. Obama can take a run at the election in 2012 especially if McCain only goes for one term. If the party really pisses off Obama and screws him over he could take his toys and go home. I believe if Hillary runs and losses she is done.

If you thought the subprime mortgage crisis was bad...
QUOTE(iamshack @ Feb 14, 2008 -> 01:34 PM) This is the EXACT reason the credit system is in place! To prevent people from being sucked in by smooth advertising campaigns, salesmen, and their own stupidity. It is NOT supposed to operate with salesmen and lenders manipulating the credit system to circumvent it. I can't go in to a Porsche dealer and just say "I can afford to put 15k down and pay $1500/mo." Now here is my actual income, this is my credit rating (which doesn't come close to backing up my actual statement to him). Make it happen, no matter what you have to do. The Porsche dealer will get you what you want if your credit and income is good enough. Somehow she was able to save $30K therefore the dealer will believe her if she feels she can make the payments. She agreed to a monthly amount that they gave her. She needs to know if she can actually pay that amount and then agree to it. Somehow she had $30K. The real sad part of this is that after the lease ran out she would still be out $30K then what would she do. I do not lease cars so I am not sure what happens at the end.

If you thought the subprime mortgage crisis was bad...
QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 14, 2008 -> 01:27 PM) No it doesn't change that. But again, does that mean that there are no victims of fraud? We could sit back and say anyone who falls victim to a con man should have known better, so they are at fault? She couldn't afford it, and the lender would not have approved the application she signed. The lender approved the altered application. Does that count for anything? She had $30K cash, good credit and agreed to a fixed monthly amount. How exactly was she misled/conned? Every dealer is going to get you to tell them what you want to pay a month and get you a car that makes them the most money they can for that amount. She did not agree to pay 'x' and then got a bill for 'y'. It is not the dealer's job to get you the best deal.

QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Feb 14, 2008 -> 11:37 AM) I think it was a pretty productive stint for Skille, I think he showed that he can play in this league. Lets hope he goes back down and start dominating in Rockford. How Skille was not getting a better look than some of the worthless s*** that is the 3rd and 4th line is very indicative to the decision making going on with that team. Craig Adams is -12 has 5 points and does nothing yet he is getting ice time. I didn't even realize Skille had come back up after the AS break.

QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Feb 14, 2008 -> 12:38 PM) It's probably too early to worry about the Supers, but since everyone else is, here's my $0.02. I assume (perhaps naively) that the majority of Supers are not a pack of fools. If Obama has a considerable lead of pledged delegates after things wash out, they will have to break for him. If Clinton has a considerable lead, they'll have to break for her. To me, this will be a test of the leadership of Howard Dean. If the delegate scenario plays out in favor of Obama, it will be Dean's job to convince Clinton to bow out gracefully. That will be the toughest thing Dean's ever done, more than likely, but it has to be done for the good of the party. If Obama has that considerable lead in pledged delegates and Clinton still takes the fight all the way to Denver and wins, then McCain will likely win in November, and Dean will be out of a job. It is like minor league baseball who as the most upside for the party. Hillary may be safe but can she beat McCain while Obama could energize the party and be as someone pointed out earleir the Democratic Reagan. The Republicans have served 20 of the last 28 years because of him IMHO. If the Clinton's were all that this would not be a race.

If you thought the subprime mortgage crisis was bad...
Without knowing the whole story if this person on disabiltiy had saved $30,000 she obviously has some sense to have saved up. Now without defending the dealer what if she had the potential to make good money. Again she somehow had $30K to kick around. If she stated to the salesman that she will get a good job and be able to make the payments he could do what he had to get her the car. If not she will go next door and eventually someone will get it for her and make the commission which is what he salesman needs as it is his livelihood At the end of the day he is wrong for assuming that her wage will be something but it is her responsability to understand what she is going to have to pay. If she agreed that she wanted to pay x amount a month, the dealer is going to got her that term for that car. If she truely feels she can not pay that she should walk away. The salesperson is going to get her what she wants as she is giving them $30K no mattter what. Now if she signs and agrees to the term of $300/mo and the contract is altered and she ends up with a payment of $800/mo then she has a case. There really is no comparison of this and hte old folks getting hosed or the no downpayment bad arm mortgages. The large downpayment makes her a good client to the dealer and worth the risk.

Challenges Facing the Next President
QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 09:36 AM) Afghanistan was one thing. IRAQ is a whole other. They invaded a country saying they were supporting terrorists, only to find out later there were no links. Over the last 3+ years we have been fighting over when and how to get them out. Investigations into corruption within the administration, and other wrong doing. All the time Bush suppresses government reports on global warming. Gives the Kyoto accords the middle finger. Let's oil companies money rape American citizens, healthcare companies charge record prices, America ranks 24th in the world in broadband penetration, a national debt that is ballooning out of control, ignored all these "sub-prime" and intrest only loans that even I know were bad ideas and I didnt go to Yale. The mergers of large oil companies and telecom while XM/Sirius can not merge is all you need to know about the last 8 years, I am only being a tad smug.

2007-2008 NHL Catch All Thread
I find it really odd that a team that literally is unable to score is going after defensemen. The defense looks solid while the forwards go long periods of time druing a game while generating no offense. On the Perrault wide open net he still should have been able to do something. I know the pass was deflected. The shootout was frusatrating as hell. Toews is a god by the way.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 9, 2008 -> 04:56 PM) We keep mentioning all of these big names, I could almost bet money that it is minor leaguers we have never heard of before that we get for Crede. He would be gone by now if that was the case. If Crede is healthy he is worth MLB talent. I believe he goes for Lowry and then Floyd is traded for Roberts.

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 09:31 AM) Not sure if you guys heard this or not, but there is a rumor floating around that Michigan and Florida might REDO their primaries post-March 4th. Rumor is Michigan would do some sort of a caucus, but Florida is a different story. They might take the "national average" and divide there delegates that way. Below is last nights Countdown with Kieth Olberman... I was going to ask if they could have a do over and schedule primaries yesterday but I thought my Al Gore VP question would get me yelled at.

The plane they found in the ocean is not the same plane. The reason for planting it...I do not know. The helicopter pilot was suppossed to be the airline pilot and he is now on the island now. Were the other three people supposed to be on the plane and the island finally got them? Hurley was not suppossed to be on the plane, you could say the same thing for Jack (trying ot get out of Sydney ASAP), Kate (was captured), Sun & Jin (Sun was suppossed to ditch Jin at the airport) not sure about Sayid.

2007-2008 NHL Catch All Thread
I only watched the second half of the 2nd and most of 3rd and Bulin was great and the defense looked really good. The lack of forward play on this team is down right scary. Ruutu and Sharp and Kane sporadically were the only guys that looked like they were doing anything. Sorry but Havlat is an embarassment right now. Why Ruutu hasn't been on the first two lines all season is mind boggling. If DT goes after defense instead of offense this team will be going nowhere. Even if Williams and Toews are healthy they have no depth beyond their first two lines. I am writing Havlat off BTW.
