I think the problem with bMac is no one is really pitching bad enough to actually be replaced. Right now any one of four guys could be replaced but not one for sure. You run the risk of removing the wrong one. Does this make any sense. The Vazquez Toronto game and Contreras Detroit game keep them in there and Garcia and Buerhle have been decently good.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 11:52 AM) This is what he is talking about, and its his plans for next year not this year. They either want Brian to develop into a power guy or a top of the lineup guy. Guillen likes Brians speed and wants to use it more. BRIAN'S SONG: Guillen has speed in mind for center fielder Brian Anderson's future if Anderson is willing. Guillen would like Anderson to play winter ball after the season with the intent of improving either his power-hitting ability or his speed. ''I told him, 'You have to work this winter on being a power hitter or a speed guy,''' Guillen said. ''I think he's the fastest guy we have. He has to pick because you can't be successful in both.'' Anderson's speed has been a plus defensively, but his hitting woes (.227) have limited his chances to steal bases. He has four in nine attempts. Aren't these the talks you have during your end of the season meeting with the player?? Especially for a young player that has fought to stay in the majors and is in the hunt for a playoff spot. As well doing what he thought was asked.

One thing that really was unsettling was the comments that Anderson either needs to steal bases or hit home runs? This was in the Trib this morning. The guy is far and away the best defensive player on the field and is finally hitting the ball. Now he needs to either start running or swing for the fences. Guillen needs to just let him play.

QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 03:10 PM) He is having a hell of a second half and has carried this team since the rest starters decided not to show up, but that doesn't mean he's suddenly an ace. What is his record and ERA since the beginning of last season????
-
Off day Monday so Jon gets the extra rest. Let him toss 120 pitches. The bullpen is that much better off the entire pen can pitch every game. Especially tomorrow.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 03:06 PM) And Cotts could use some confidence. With mauer and Morneau in there lineup it would be nice to have two lefties that we could count on out of our pen. They steal signs at home. Last time they were here they did nothing.

QUOTE(Friend of Nordhagen @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 01:54 PM) Hawk, feeling strong about the club today, decides it's time to go after Mariotti. I am watching the game via Soxtalk. Helps at least look like work. My question is why is Hawk reading Chciago papers in Detroit. I know he can but I think he would have something better to do it is hard to read this crap unless you really want to. I stopped reading the Times, the Trib is 1000x better. Hawk should do the same.

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 01:48 PM) He sounded like an oldie. The home let's them out for recess. That's when the "oldies" have their fun.
-
QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 01:46 PM) No, but he did say "he hasn't made a catch like Aaron did so many times last year... " Sigh... Did he have to hang up because recess was over?

Line-up v. lefties Ozuna (LF) - Iguchi (2B) - Dye (RF) - Konerko (1B) - Crede (3B) - Cintron (DH) - Uribe (SS) - Anderson (CF) - Alomar © Line-up v. righties pods (Lf) - Iguchi (2B) - AJ © - Konerko (DH) - Dye (RF) - Crede (3B) - Gload (1B) - Uribe/Cintron (SS) - Anderson/Mack (CF) There really is no thought process in the Ozzie line-up except playing Mack and Ozuna out pf position in the hope they will be effective. Do you think Maggs and I-Rod will play today??????

White Sox @ Tigers, 7:05pm CT

That Cintron AB was the worst I have EVER seen. He should be pulled from thsi game right now. -
QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Aug 23, 2006 -> 08:32 AM) We needed to go 18-3 at one point a couple weeks ago to "get back in it". I came up with that number Assuming that Detroit would continue on its hot pace (you can Never ever assume a team will go on a slump just because "theyre due") 18-3 would have us catching the Tigers by September. For what its worth, the Season will really end for us a week earlier because the Tiggers have a cupcake schedule the last week and a half. The SOX will have to have that wrapped up by then. I basically stopped counting after we lost 4 games barely halfway into that "streak", losing the ground we worked so hard to gain. Now, the SOX have compounded this by losing to the Tigers. The wildcard still gets you in the playoffs right? They play well against good teams so as long as they can get in, I have faith.

He is a better LF than CF and would be a good platoon type guy if we could get a SS or 2B that could lead off. Let go Pods and get someone like Rowand and Pierre and I am fine with this. Let go Ozuna and put Mack in the IF more.

Come back here Thursday and you may be able to see soon enough.
-
He has had a sore should per Cooper on the radio and is now available.
-
My guess 5-1 Tigers. 2-0 after 1 - 4-1 after 5 - 5-1 after 7...... Gotta go sit in the car for an hour and a half, hope I'm wrong.

This was brought up earlier in a conversation about my hatred, yes hatred, toward podsednik. A platoon of Shannon Stewart and podsednik.........if both are healthy, I like this.

QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 10:55 AM) The pressure will not let up the rest of the year. I am worried we will need to take the final three vs. Min to get into the playoffs. Realistically no it is not. 16 (3 v. TB, KC and Sea and 7 v. Clev are all winnable no tipping the cap bulls***). We need to go 11-5 here. of the 21 remaining 15 are on the road so we go 7-8 in these and 4-2 at home = 11-10 Is 21-15 enough to make the playoffs?????

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 03:00 PM) God Damnit, DO NOT START THE KID'S ARBITRATION CLOCK! WE HAVE NO SPOT FOR HIM UNTIL 08! AND HE'LL SPEND MOST OF NEXT YEAR IN THE MINORS ANYWAY!!! ARGH! The one good bit of news is that might keep Mack out of CF. But the cost of starting Sweeney's arb clock this early is pretty damn high, IMO. I thought the expansion of the rosters to 40 man for September call-ups did not begin the arbitration clock??? Am I wrong?

Brandon McCathy has thrown 3 innings the last two weeks. Is it possible that he is being streched out on the side for a spot start? Depending on what happens the next two days, Thursdays game could have very little meaning as compared to this weekend. Could Garland get pushed back to Friday and McCarthy pitch Thursday and either push everyone back a day or skip Contrearas or Vazquez to give them an extra day. Our starters look gassed right now. Would a 6 man rotation be that bad? Tracey can come up for Ozuna to get another bullpen arm until rosters expand. I am just curious as to why Cotts has actually pitched 3 of the last 4 games and he has not looked good for sometime.
-
Our best hitter is batting fifth. Our worst hitter is batting first. Our two best defensive players didn't have to pay to watch the game. Our best reliever pitched to three batters in the 6th inning. Need I go on.

What I believe we are seeing is that this team is unable to sustain a level of excellence great enough to ease the fans fears. Everyone is still of the mindset that this organization as failed before and will continue to fail. Last season is not the norm and is the excuse for why we will fail this year. When Detroit was one of the worst teams in baseball history, they kept us out of the playoffs. Now just when it looked like we had turned a corner, a team that was 15-42 on the road took 2 of the last 3. We are waiting for the next 3-12 run which put us behind the 8 ball a month ago. In reality, Detorit is looking very beatable now and we are not taking advantage of it. The next 7 days should have playoff intensity. I would be nice if Pods and Uribe could get into a hot streak along with the rotation.
-
There are two problems with this team. 1) Vazquez seems to break up any type of roll. See KC game two and yesterday. 2) Pods is unable to contribute on a daily basis. He is basically a platoon player. Not to mention we got rid of gascan Cliff for gascan Neil. Both games were winnable, not saying we would have won but a 1 run deficit with two to play and two run deficit going to the 9th would've given hope at least. Also I thought Uribe may have run into one in 8th.

The conversation all of the time is that most players are put on waivers. How do we not know if these players have already been put on waivers. Could Milledge be a PTBNL? I do not think so but was just asking.

Here's the thing next weekend the matchups will likely be Radke - Vazquez Santana - Contrearas Silva - Buerhle 2-4 could be very likely aginst the Twins. Radke didn't really get beat by the Sox more than the Twins defense. At some point they need to hit Radke and Santana.
