  1. Let's hope for an MVP award and ice his way into the HOF. Oakland would become my second favorite team.
  2. It was good. Huge emphasis I thought on the cubs though. They covered the series more than any other (we went 3-3). They covered certain events more so than others as well. Dodgers series got some big coverage I thought the Oakland game (Crede/Dye SS) would have been a really nice fit for the theme. Cleveland run was coverd very well although August and September were just sort of passed over other than this. They had some guy from the Herald (Gregor?) do more commentating than I thought they should have. He has a face and voice for newsprint as well. The thing again that I did not like was there was not input from any hispanic players. I thought this was a bad move. No Garcia, Contrearas or Uribe. I kind of wonder if they refused to be covered or were not around for taping. Some mic stuff from the regular season was good Dye calling Crede and Rowand (I think it was them) Dumb and Dumber was neat. Overall both DVD's are about the same with a good about of dual coverage. I would like to see an indepth highlight reel more than anything right now.
  3. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 10:33 AM) I don't even want to think about what the Marlins would want for Miguel Cabrera. McCarthy and the AA team for Willis and Cabrera. I am not joking
  4. If healthy, big if, but in the East you have to take major risks to compete, this is a great move. They have a nice rotation and the pen is stacking up. They should at least hamper the yanks and red sox march through the division with Halliday, Batista, Chacin (sp?) and Lilly (if he is still there).
  5. The main thing on this is the Garland situation. The Trib sounded like there are still negotiations. If he is locked up long term I could see McCarthy being moved. I would want more than Crawford though, that is for sure. If Garland is not going to sign long term I think he could be moved especially in a three way deal. Another issue is that it sounded like the Sox have thought of using a 6 man rotation due to the WBC.
  6. Seeing as the Sox have had the biggest moves thus far as well as being World Series champs they will touch on this then go to in depth coverage of Josh Beckett, Papelbon to closer and the state of the union in regard to Manny. Then jump to Yankee money issues and Johnny Damon. I feel a bad wrap coming to the cub for not getting Furcal but wetting themselves over the overpayment for their bullpen. The bonds coverage up the ass followed by the steroid siuation.
  7. With bells on. I'll get there early. I think they serve booze but I am not sure.
  8. sammy is the epitome of what is wrong in general with the media on a larger scale. I am reading a biography on Ted Williams, Jimmy Foox is next, and the media treatment of Williams seems to parallal that of Frank Thomas. Although Williams was much more vocal in his hatred for the media, the fact that the fans seemed to have a very different perspective of Williams than the media mirrors that of Thoams. Then you have sammy sosa. The coverage of this guy was sickening the negative press was ignored while everything that Thomas did was focused in a more negative light. Imagine if sosa lost the MVP to an admitted steroid user. The media would have run with this. Now that sosa is in that same grouping he finally gets ignored.
  9. When do the cubs get called out for the park and dusty baylor not getting the players they want as has been sold.
  10. QUOTE(timotime @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 09:48 AM) i feel ya. i also take great pleasure in the suffering of cubs fans. hendry really f***ed it up this offseason by making no moves that are worth a damn. i am looking forward to another sox world series championship paired with a total self-destruction effort by the cubs. It is December. The offseson is not even half over.
  11. QUOTE(The Critic @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 10:46 AM) I agree that their focus should be on bigger ticket packages, but to me it just looks bad to advertise the Ozzie Plan, then push the on-sale date back, then take the ticket reps off the Ozzie sales. It's like "you Ozzie Plan people were good enough when no one cared, but now that REAL season ticket holders have popped up, go play with your computer". I understand 100% that it's business, and good business at that, but it still seems like a slap at Ozzie plan people. I saw an estimate somewhere of between 18 and 20K season tickets sold. Not sure if it's accurate, but that's what I saw. They are a tad over 17K of full plans. I am trying to get this on top of a full season plan. The Sox are trying to automate things more through Ticketmaster and this is one step. The thing I have with this is you get hit hard with service charges ($3/ticket) if it goes through Ticketmaster. "They are working on this." I think they just want people to get this and then not have to service it at all.
  12. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 01:27 AM) I'm more interested where Morris goes. Last year he seemed to be a shell of himself more of a junkball guy.
  13. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 10:20 AM) I'm beginning to hate the Cardinals as much as I hate the Yankees, Cubs, Giants, and Red Sox. I don't they torment the cub fans, that's good enough for me.
  14. Clement's stuff is far from elite. Milwood is old and has had injury issues. He went from a guy that could hit 94 to being more crafty.
  15. These are both classic examples of the media trying to speak for a fanbase they know nothing about.
  16. "They will be sold online, no ticket rep association with this plan.....Continue to check Whitesox.com for details." There appears to be a disassociation with this plan and White Sox ticketing.
  17. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 01:46 PM) I agree with you. I wonder why they didn't want Graffanino? I do like their new 1-2 of Castillo and Stewart if they stay healthy. They still need a power-hitting DH though. I just hope it's not a healthy Frank Thomas. Tony G. has trouble getting down on grounders.
  18. Look at her like she is complete fool, (like most people look at me normally) and just say as much as a wise ass as you can, "Relax" and walk away. If the person confronts you so be it. The simplist and easist way to belittle someone in as few a words and as clean a language as possible is the way to go.
  19. With the workload the top four pitched last year, my thoughts are that they think some guys will hit the DL. Also Garland could be traded if he is not locked up long term. I think the 6 starters will all be needed next year. Especially with the stupid world thing.
  20. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 11:59 AM) The Yankees needed starting pitching. There, it's explained. And they will next year as well as this year. NY and Boston trade their youth and therefore overpay veterans. Look at Matt Clement and he was an NL pitcher. Jon Garland is a horse. Mike Hampton is what 5'10" if he is lucky. Bown got his huge contract at 36, Garland will be 27. Think about that for a second. The guy has never missed a start and will be 27 after next season. Guiys that are 30-32 are getting huge money. 12 win a year pitchers make huge money. Most guys improve when reach their prime which Garland hasn't. Especially if they are not injury prone. carrie woods gets $10M a year at 30 and he has never won more than 13 games. Teams will overpay for the hope of good pitching. s*** Lieber and Carpenter got nice contracts and they had to sit out a year.
  21. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 11:18 AM) Ok, what I'm trying to figure out about that one is how exactly Thome could have put up exactly the same numbers "Total" and "As a Left Handed Batter", including 96 home runs as a left handed batter...but also put up a "0" in "Runs scored as a left handed batter." Overall AB R H Total 1279 234 333 As LHB 1279 0 333 He ran righthanded.
  22. How many starts has he missed in his career? How old is he? How did he fair in the playoffs? How old is he? He is young and has improved every year. Christ not everyone can come out and be Kerry Wood from day one. By the end of this season he will be the ace of this staff at 27. This topic has been beaten to death here.
  23. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 02:20 PM) Sorry, I don't think Steroids = cheating unless Lasik = cheating too. Lasik = Legal way of correcting vision which is also correctable via glasses and contacts Steroids = Illegal substance used to grow muscle which naturally can not be achieved Big difference???? Also if someone gave you steroids or any illegal substance without your knowledge, wouldn't you sue the s*** out of them???? Why doesn't Palmeiro sue Tejada, or Bonds, Giambi and Sheffield sue Balco.
  24. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 10:47 AM) And then who leadsoff? If I was them, I would go heavy after Pierre and if not him throw the 10M/yr after Damon and hope for the best. They have a hole in right (and possibly left if Murton is no great shakes, and center if the are relying on Patterson) bigger than short. Cedano, Walker and Perez are more solid than all three outfield positions. Having three hitters (Furcal, Ramirez, Lee) is great but the outfield could be a disaster. I think they are going after Furcal to go after not because he is a great need. Same thing with the Angels and Konerko. The Dodgers are in the bidding to keep their name out there in the public not because they are serious about acquiring him.
  25. They will go after Luis Castillo and Juan Peierre and then try and sign Lugo or Florida's Alex Gonzalez. It will take a good six months for their fans to learn it is a different Gonzalez than the one that cost them the playoffs, if they even remember the guys name. Why they don't go after Preston Wilson is beyond me he and Cedano make more sense then Furcal. I really think Hendry works like fantasy baseball, get the biggest names to keep your team in the spotlight.
