SHIT!
QUOTE(ceffa2000 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 12:24 PM) So if I am in New York with DirecTV, will I be able to get the games next year on Comcast Sports Net Chicago? I'm a little confused. If you have the DirecTV baseball package.

The Doom and Gloom
QUOTE(LDF @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 11:37 AM) and i will say this, in most of all the trades that the sox's have made, most of these beat writers, who have far more access to the baseball scouts, managers, gm and owners have acknowledge that the sox overpaid at the time. hind sight is one thing to make a judgement call, but we need to look at the talent at the time. Of these beat writers, scouts, managers, gm's and owners how many have won a World Series? How many recreated a team in one season and won the World Series? How many prod along and never progress? We are getting almost $30M from other teams to field a team. KW works well with other GM's and both teams benefit. The Brewers, Yanks, Arizona, Philadelphia, Rockies, Mariners, Oakland, Anaheim, Mets, Rangers, and Orioles. These are some of the teams we have traded with to field our teams over the last few years and teams that give us money for players. The mode of KW trades are prospects for cash and players, it is that simple. Organizations like the cubs, redsox and yankees will take a risk on huge contract because they have money to burn. KW will not burn money. He will be paying Vazquez what Paul Byrd and Esteban Loiaza are making next year. In order to do this, he had to give up Chris Young. For every Royce Ring and Ryan Wing there is a Lance Broadway and Sean Tracey right around the corner. A year or so back, Chris Young was Anthony Webster and Gio Gonzalez was Chris Honel. I have given up on crying about lost prospects. Tim Hummel, Anthony Webster, and Ryan Wing are where......well two are or were back withe the Sox and the other is free to be had. We draft 60-70 players a year, how many pan out? I'll take a shot on Vazquez and his 6 years of MLB experience over a guy that had a great HALF year in AA.

The Evil Kenny Williams
QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 09:15 PM) What ever you guys do...Don't tell TLAK that David Caruso left NYPD Blue...He'll never forgive ABC. SON OF A b****!!!! The first season just started on TNT, he leaves....god damnit! Ruined my day. Where is my KW voodoo doll.

The Doom and Gloom

Sox Acquire Javier Vazquez
Imagine how deep we would be and the potential trade we could pull off if we still had that Webster fellow (not the midget from the Alex Karris show either) in centerfield. Come on. For every John Smoltz there are a hundred Scott Ruffcorn's. I will say this I trust Dave Wilder and Kenny Williams to understand their farm system.

Sox Acquire Javier Vazquez
QUOTE(WinninUgly @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 12:00 PM) I don't know if this has been posted, but it looks like the D-Backs will pay $8 million: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/20...s-vazquez_x.htm So the Yankees, Philles and D/Backs are giving us almost $30M to field a compeitive team???? Amazing. At $7.5M a year this is a great deal. I am sorry Willie Mays Jr. had to go. I find it somewhat interesting that Young and Rowand are gone but Anderson is still here. I like Wilder and think he knows what he is doing.

Sox Acquire Javier Vazquez
Garland was more major league ready when he came up then McCarthy is now and how many people tried to run him out of town. McCarthy may be ready and may pitch well but if we do not need him to why should we use him. The five guys in front of him are better at this point. One more year in the minors is one more year we have him on the cheap.

Sox could offer best package for Tejada
QUOTE(Steff @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 10:46 AM) Yea!! And maybe we can take back Paul's contract and send his ass also since he did the same thing. :rolly Didn't Konerko want to resign last offseason and the Sox made him earn it. Then when he earned it he played the FA card. This was all the Sox fault but I do not fault either. Jon Garland should test free agency. Unless KW offered 4/$48M there is no way he should sign. Although if he gets hurt next year, he could be in trouble. Now if he goes 3/$30M he gets his lifetime of security and can hit the open market at 30 like Furcal did. I think they will settle at 2 yr $18M.

Sox Acquire Javier Vazquez
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 08:20 AM) Just a few thoughts here after reading all 59 pages... #1 Vazquez+Cooper=Contreras. There is something they see in Vazquez they think they can fix. They obvious told Ozzie to feel the kid out and check out his mental state. Obviously Ozzie likes what he said, because he is a White Sox now. #2 I get the feeling one of the starters has some kind of an injury, and I get the feeling it is Garcia. I have no real evidence, just Kenny worrynig about Garcia being tired, and then aquiring another starter. #3 Maybe a little bit of thinking outside the box might be necesary here... If Jenks fails as a closer, remember that the Sox originally were looking at aquiring Contreras to be a closer. That would slide Bmac into the rotation to be the #5, and no bullpen arm is needed. #4 I love Kenny Williams. Not only is he looking at 2006, he is looking at 2007 and 2008 and what inflation has done to the pitching market. He is buying the guys in rookie ball and A ball two years to get ready for the majors instead of forcing them quicker than they need to go. He just dealt a starting pitcher we didn't want, the last reliever out of our pen, and a prospect in a position where we feel we have two other major league ready players at for a top of the rotation starter... AND got Arizona to pick up some contract. KW for Exec of the year 2006. These are exactlly what I was thinking. Nice

I think something big is going down...
New ownership and great young talent. He could be their gamble. They also have Dave Wills. What about Garland for Ervin Santana and Darin Erstad??

Sox Acquire Javier Vazquez
QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 07:35 AM) You could care less about Chris Young? I don't know about that. I'm not saying I don't like the deal, but Young could have been our starting CF for the next 10 years. So can Brian Anderson. They also can move Jose or Jon. Talk about a six man rotation, wow.

Sox Acquire Javier Vazquez
Jon Garland is a crap shoot. On one side you have a young pitcher that has gotten better each season and has tremendous upside and seems to be close to reaching it. On the other you have a guy that looks like he could regress and has previously disappeared at times. Vazquez is cut from the same mold. Both are horses though. If cash, and lots of it, is not involved this is a stupid trade. For Arizona to get $3M from the Yanks and not pass it on does not seem legitimate. I would think they would have to pass this cash on with the player. Is it not against the CBA that you can not buy players (i.e. Sox can not pay $10M to Florida for Orlando Cabrearra.) I thought the most cash that could be transferred for a player was $1M. Would not the cash for this contract need to be moved with the contract. I think the cash spoken of in any new deal is additional cash on top of the $3M yankee money. I think the Ozzie factor is in play as he feels he can get this kid to get back to his expo days. Ozzie has a way with Latino players and this is a bonus.

Sox Acquire Javier Vazquez
If Jon Garland is on the market there will be plenty of options for KW.

Juan Pierre Traded
QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 03:42 PM) Atlanta beat the Cub in getting Renteria from the Bo Sox. Now the Cub will compete with the BoSox in trying to land Tejada. If he trully wants out of Balt. It's starting to look like the Cub middle IF will be pretty weak next year. Prior or Zambrano need to go in order to Tejada. If they hadn't gotten Pierre, the three pitchers plus Hill may have gotten him. Imagine if they could have gotten Tejada for this and then signed Damon.

4th OF possibilities
Due to innings logged last season I think they will be going with six starters and six releivers for the first month or two. Take into account the WBC as well. 12 pitchers (possibly 13) 13 position players starting 9 - Ozuna, Mack, and Widger. I think Borchard gets a shot as he can play all three outfield slots as good as any of the three starters as well as possibly DH. He is a switch hitter and I think they should give him a go.

Franco closes in on two-year deal with Mets
Do the Mests sign friggin everyone. Did you see the list of guys they did not offer arbitration to.

Another Trade?!?!?!
QUOTE(qwerty @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 12:32 AM) Will they compete for anything more than third place in the next decade? They just spent 100 million dollars on gambles. They traded for a first baseman... now have four guys that play 1st and 3rd. Only of only one of them can dh and none of them play the outfield. As i see it one of those guys will be wasted unless someone converts to the outfield really quick. I like overbay... i think he is overated and underated in some sense. But this move makes no sense unless they have another deal in following this one to move one of hinkse, koskie, hillenbrand. They don't have to worry. The mets and orioles are still ahead of them stupidity wise. Think about if you were int hat division. TB, Tor and Balt are not that bad but they throw this sub-par pitchers out there and Boston and New York murder them. They need to at least try and build a pitching staff to give themselves and chance. This si what Toronto is doing and they are takign risks and they are looking liek they will at least put up a fight. Baltimore on the other hand, I am not sure what they are up to. At least they are not laying down. Their rotation looks good and their defense is top of the line. The Mets.........well I don't know what to say.

Another Trade?!?!?!
QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 11:23 PM) I can see them in 2-3 years being in the hunt for the playoffs, which is good to see in baseball, that the tides are changing. Now if only the Pirates would learn from their mistakes and not be the AAAA team of the Cubs! IMO they have the best young INF in the game with Weeks, Hardy, and Feilder, 3b well I guess they can work on that. They should try and aquire Marte from Atlanta, not like they are going to use him anytime soon. But I am sure ATL would ass rape them. Like the Brewers did to them last year for Kolb.

Clemens to Become a FA
Think St. Louis will go after him.
-
Clemens to Become a FA
Good for them he needs to to s*** or get off he pot. He got $16M and would get the same or more next year if they went to arbitration. I wished he came back as I would have liked to see him go for 350 wins. I may have seen his last live MLB appearance, cool.

Juan Pierre Traded
What have they got to give up? I am not sure Rich Hill is all that great. Boston I guess could use prospects to spin in other deals. You know a guy (and I 've seen it here before) that I would like the Sox to look at, Corey Patterson. At worst he can platoon and give a LH bat off the bench with speed. He could bat 9th. His upside makes it worth a risk but I do not think the cubs will move him. Now if they send him and Hill to Boston for Renteria, then the Sox could maybe get him for Marte and B prospect. Do I have the cub colored glasses on when thinking of Patterson??? He did beat us last year. Think of the fire he could have to f' the cubs in their hometown....
-
Would you do this trade?!?!?!?
You need to look at free agency and the long term impact of such a move. I have a headache and can not think of it. I will post if it comes to me.

Farmers new partner
Did he play with Cooper at all?? He may be more than just a broadcaster if they have any type of relationship. These guys watch every game and if they could add a little something or see something because they are friendly with a coaching staff, this could be a bonus.

Farmers new partner
Tommy John is a real solid pick-up. I thought he and Hawk would work well together.
