    Job Hunt Thread

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 3, 2012 -> 10:55 PM) I'm not so much worried about the people as I'm very outgoing. The main concern is just being on my own, far away from help (family) without being at school. I'm incredibly excited with the potential options I have in front of me, they're just really huge decisions. I guess this is what I signed up for in being a broadcaster. You are really not as far away as you might think...it would have been much more difficult for me 20-30 years ago, I'm sure...but with the internet and cell phones...you are always very close to still communicating with friends and family. Also, keeping up with your favorite sports teams gives you a sense of home, as well.

    Job Hunt Thread

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 3, 2012 -> 10:55 PM) Anyone out there ever faced the possibility of relocating somewhere all by yourself? I've been applying to jobs all over the country, and the prospect of moving to a town in Wyoming or something is kind of intimidating. Yep. Just take things one step at a time, and think of it as a chance to reinvent yourself..it's actually quite exciting if you think about it that way.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 3, 2012 -> 09:40 PM) What in the hell is Ventura doing? Ahh, he's throwing some pretty stress-free pitches tonight...nice to get him the ovation.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 3, 2012 -> 09:26 PM) What would really be great is if Twins trade Liriano soon and means we get a lot of games against Blackburn, Hendricks, DeVries, etc Would love if we could get him...but these crazy Twins announcers talk as though they expect to win the division. We are so getting shutout tomorrow, btw.

    2012 Book Thread

About 280 pages or so into Game of Thrones...definitely has picked up in the last 150 pages or so.
  6. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jul 3, 2012 -> 08:10 AM) Maybe AJ can hit a line drive that bounces off of Oswalt into the Rangers dugout where it'll smack Washington in the balls. They were talking on the Twins broadcast last night how most people think Washington deliberately chose Harrison and Nathan to be on the roster instead of Darvish, knowing full-well that if he put Darvish in the final vote he would win. I guess his answer to all the criticism would be "When your team makes it to the World Series, your manager can pick all of your guys to be on the team." In all honesty, as much as I'd like to see as many of our guys go as possible, DA had a good point...probably better for them not to go and rest instead. And it probably keeps their prices down just a bit when it comes down to negotiating their contracts, too.
  7. Maybe Jake took him out last night and got him hammered... Or better yet, maybe he took him out deer hunting into the middle of nowhere and left him there.
  8. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 2, 2012 -> 04:50 PM) I don't get it? He's selling a Ford Focus, Russ.
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 2, 2012 -> 01:33 PM) The car thread is gone, but does anyone have any experience or currently own an X5? I love my jeep but I stopped into a BMW dealership on a whim and they have a new diesel model coming out that really snagged my interest. I test drove a non-diesel several months ago....they're awesome in terms of performance and handling...I just can't stand their interiors...but the diesel will definitely be an awesome ride...any money you possibly save on gas though will be lost in the cost of the vehicle, which is easily going to be $60k...
  10. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 2, 2012 -> 03:51 PM) I just came across this but what the hell shack? You're better than that. Well I obviously didn't realize how horrible all the other 1B's had been from an OPS standpoint. Honestly, PK was incredible the first few months and then pretty pedestrian over the last month. He's on pace for 29/83 in terms of run production, which I was assuming wasn't going to get him in at what is traditionally such a offense heavy position. Alex Rios is on pace for 20/87, after all...and if I had to guess right now who will end up with more home runs at the end of the year, I would bet Alex...who also is on pace for 27 stolen bases...and he didn't sniff being selected. I admit I was wrong, however, and PK does deserve to go.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 2, 2012 -> 07:24 AM) Miller Park is a great venue. Downside is there is nothing to do around the park. He should feel perfectly at home then
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 1, 2012 -> 05:41 PM) I'm sure they'd give him up for Sale. Viciedo might well do it too. Count me in on the latter then.

    2012 TV Thread

QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 2, 2012 -> 03:59 AM) How, we are on opposite sides. I think this season has been a mess so far. They are all over the place and only one storyline is interesting. The whole war storyline has nothing to do with anything. Its like the writers feel EVERY character needs to be very deep or something. Yeah, that is how I felt about the beginning of last season...I guess it probably depends on which characters you like and what you are hoping will happen...for me, Eric is one of my favorite characters...so seeing him reduced to a blubbering idiot last season kind of bored me...but to each their own.

    2012 TV Thread

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 09:56 PM) True Blood blows so hard. It used to be good. It's devolved into gratuitous sex and who's f***ing who and who wants to f*** who. It's also turning into a bad woman's fantasy. All these supernatural beings fighting over Anna Paquin? Please. Hah, seems like that's what it has always been to me...a campy, vampire soap opera... I think this season has started out great, as opposed to last season, which I did not particularly care for. And keep in mind, it was written by a woman.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 1, 2012 -> 03:04 PM) No one knows what Viciedo's trade value is. Not me, not Balta, not Marty, not you and not KW. He's not going anywhere, KW loves him. So you can say trade him every game thread, he'll never improve, that's fine. But unless you're really hoping that so you can pat yourself on the back in a couple years, its really just a waste of time, and you're going to be doing it forever. He's here for the long haul. Well you can ignore me too...but instead you need to argue with everything I post since I'm the person you always wanted to be in life.
  16. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 1, 2012 -> 02:57 PM) Viciedo...did....improve his walk rate in the minors Yeah, and go back and read it in context...because I was clearly TALKING ABOUT THE MAJOR LEAGUES.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 1, 2012 -> 02:52 PM) Give it up. Seriously. Jordan Danks would be playing LF in a pennant race, and you would trade Viciedo to someone who would offer a lot . You don't think he'll ever get better, but you're sure there are teams out there who do. Silly. Honestly, DA, you ask one question, which I answer, and you then run with it under a completely different premise. I don't know if you do it purposefully or not, but for someone who runs around digging up posts to quote all the time, it's pretty damn weak. Take Balta's example: If we got Hamels back, he would clearly not play LF for us on days he didn't pitch. Does that mean that is the reason not to make that trade?
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 1, 2012 -> 02:54 PM) Shack, this is really crossing every personal attack line we have. I'm being gentle here. You want to suspend me while simultaneously allowing DA to play with no rules, you go right ahead. It is not a personal attack to characterize your post as lame.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 1, 2012 -> 02:48 PM) Well, I'm going to drop it here and I think this says plenty right there. Spare me, Balta. How about your lame post telling me Viciedo improved his walk rates in the minors? Just because you choose to insult people passive aggressively does not mean it is not an insult.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 1, 2012 -> 02:49 PM) Except here: Depends what you got back, obviously. Probably Danks. You have absolutely no ability to analyze debates. You do not have a good grasp of the English language.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 1, 2012 -> 02:48 PM) You mention Danks as a replacement and say someone ELSE is disregarding intelligence and logic? How does it logically follow that by desiring to trade a player, I also must believe his replacement is somehow better or different? Your question was who would then play LF. Not who would be a better player to replace a tank with?
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 1, 2012 -> 02:44 PM) So you're actually going to tell me that Viciedo won't ever improve or learn the strike zone and you want him replaced by a guy who has struck out 365 times in 1271 PA's at AAA? At no point have I said anything close to that.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 1, 2012 -> 02:43 PM) GMAB with the personal insult. I've been noting how the Sox have treated him for 3 years. Full season at 3b Jump up a level aggressively, put him at 1b for half a season, then move him back to 3b for 2 weeks, then move him to the major league bench where Ozzie sticks him because he has to prove soemthing to Kenny. Then A full season in RF at AAa, which had really solid performance except weak defense...because he'd never played there before. Finally, aggressively again push him to the big leagues at age 23, move him to another new position, get better defense from him than I expected, and yet people want him gone because he's only putting up a mid-.700's OPS as a rookie. It's not a personal insult. He's just your latest "defend at all costs" player now that Morel is injured. You disregard all your intelligence and logic to defend sone of these guys, for what reason, I don't know. Frankly I think it's more insulting to me that I feel obliged to respond to this horses***.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 1, 2012 -> 02:42 PM) So the proverbial non answer. Who would then play LF? How is that a non-answer? Depends what you got back, obviously. Probably Danks.
