  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 2, 2011 -> 12:23 PM) AS predicted I heard today that Illinois has or had reached out to Luke Fickell WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 2, 2011 -> 11:44 AM) I havent watched every second of their games this year, but has Weber tried to run a 2-3 zone defense yet? Against either Richmond or Illinois State he pulled out either a 2-3 or a 1-3-1. Lasted about 2 minutes and I think it was just until he could get some fresh guys in the game.
  3. So, who approves that sort of thing? Members of Congress? Or the Obama Admn?
  4. QUOTE (danman31 @ Nov 30, 2011 -> 09:01 PM) Depends on how they do it with the uneven number of teams. Seems pretty unfair for the Big Ten to have all 12 play and the ACC with the ability to drop a couple teams. Maybe Pitt and Cuse won't join in immediately. I think the rules are that the last place teams the prior year don't get to participate. Thought Indiana looked pretty decent last night, though they were hitting some incredible contested shots over and over again. NC State appears to be a good, but young, team with some upside. The worst call of the game was the flagrant. I get it's not really a flagrant call, but an intentional one, but that was still horses*** and completely flipped the game to IU. He was clearly playing the ball. Pritchard? (white dude, #25 I think for Indiana) made an even worse foul on a breakaway and it wasn't called. But whatever, credit Indiana for a good win. I'm very much looking forward to Zeller v. Leonard. Finesse v. power. Should be good.
  5. QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Nov 30, 2011 -> 03:17 PM) IMO Dodd-Frank is extremely weak, and I think you already know what I believe we should go back to. I recall watching “The Daily Show” only 30+ some odd rules out of the 200+ were implemented a year after the bill became law. I agree that we should utilize current or within the last 3 years technology, to help replace man hours. But, as we have seen with the 2008 issues, not having enough man power ends up costing us more in the long run. But from reading up on 08 issues, the government doesn’t spend the necessary money on technology, unless there is a gun pointed at their head, and still they try to get out of spending money. IMO the only way we fix this, is nothing to do with this at all... Campaign Finance Reform, we fix that.. all other issues in DC will get solved. How does fixing corrupt campaigns stop companies from operating fraudulently to the detriment of their public investors?
  6. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 30, 2011 -> 12:19 PM) Ya, this is just untrue. A lot of people understand the flaws that recent Duke teams have had going into the tourny but they've almost always have earned their seeding with what they accomplished in the regular season. Coach K is a mastermind at scheduling. 90% of the time their non-conference "road" games are on neutral courts (the BigTen/ACC a slight exception). It's normally games at the UC, Madison Square Garden, Dallas, etc etc. Do they get a couple of quality wins a year? Absolutely. But so do 15 other teams.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Nov 29, 2011 -> 10:50 PM) 100% agreed. I catch myself talking about the graphic novel too much, but it seriously is a LOT better, it's not even close. If you enjoy the show, you will most definitely enjoy the graphic novel. I just recommend holding out until you are done with the show to read the novel. I'm growing tired of the show and anticipate the book being more of what I wanted the show to be. What "book" did you get? The Comendium One (the first eight volumes)? There's a paperback edition of that for $32 on Amazon. Looks like the remaining volumes have to be bought separately.
  8. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 30, 2011 -> 11:58 AM) Well.... 02/03 - Preseason #6....Sweet 16 03/04 - Preseason #2....Final 4 04/05 - Preseason #11....Sweet 16 05/06 - Preseason #1....Sweet 16 06/07 - Preseason #12....1st round 07/08 - Preseason #11....2nd round (almost 1st - Belmont game) 08/09 - Preseason #5....Sweet 16 09/10 - Preseason #8....Champions 10/11 - Preseason #1....Sweet 16 11/12 - Preseason #6....???? That's a little more telling than just picking out 1 season I'd like to see if someone has run some sort of weighted ranking of NCAA success to seeding. I feel like every year Duke is given a 1-2 seed (usually undeserving). Are two wins that tough with such a high seeding?
  9. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 30, 2011 -> 08:11 AM) OSU is legit but thank god they played the way they are capable of so Duke is exposed. I hate that every year they have all this hype and are nothing more than a sweet 16 team f*** Duke. I'm so tired of the ESPN hype machine for them. It must be really tough to recruit when you have loaded schedules and a national cable network pimping you 24/7. Anyone see too that ESPN has a "national college basketball blog" and a "north carolina blog?" What the f*** is that about?
  10. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Nov 29, 2011 -> 11:53 PM) Another game that being down how they were, last year's team probably loses. This team has a long way to go. But they f***ing scrap and play hard. I'll take that with a little less talent than talent that underachieves and fails to show up a lot. You can get behind this team, no matter the result. To update my previous post a few days ago, few more arrows. Watching Maniscalco>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Watching McCamey. Maniscalco has been money all year. I'll be interested to see what happens when he gets a 6'2"-6'4" combo guard on him though. Paul had one of his best games as an Illini. He still makes too many stupid turnovers trying to make a play, but he's got such a quick step. Illinois' offense should be give the ball to Leonard and let him score or distribute, or give the ball to Paul and let him drive and dish. Maniscalco/Richardson/Griffey just need to find open spots. I did like the high/low sets they were running though. I think that could end up being their best option. My only major concern so far is the foul situation. Luckily Illinois is deep, but they still foul way, way, way too much, and in conference play that's going to really hurt them. Bertrand/Henry/Head aren't going to be able to make up a lot of ground if they're losing. Ibby and Egwu have been impressive just from their energy and bball instincts. Now it's just a matter of getting some offensive moves so they aren't so one dimensional.
  11. Looks like Michigan is overrated again
  12. Hey Brandon Paul, thanks for showing up.
  13. Illinois coming out flat against Maryland. Need to have more energy on the road.
  14. Even in a shortened season I'd be worried about Roy's knees suddenly going out.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 28, 2011 -> 05:08 PM) They love anything where they can show craziness, violence, politics, sex, drugs, anything and everything that sells. Occupy has it all. They won't spend much time analyzing the root of the issues, because their readers are mostly not interested in that level of depth. Its sad, but its true. The same reason "OMG tea party members are racists!" crap starts. That s*** sells to a populace eager to feed their own belief.
  16. Jenksismyhero replied to The Gooch's topic in SLaM
Honestly I'm tired of all this crap. Watching those videos of black friday shoppers is just sickening. Hundreds of people fighting over s***ty toasters that are 5 bucks cheaper than normal. Really? Is that what we've come to as a society? Pepper spraying people so you can get some dumb item you don't need? The only good deal I saw this year was Amazon selling brand new phones (Droid Razr) for a penny with a new plan. Saved myself $600 bucks, and not $600 bucks on pure mark-up like 95% of the stuff in these deals.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 28, 2011 -> 02:29 PM) So, Illinois goes 6-0, then 0-6 and looks dead to the world in their last game. Fires the head coach. Does Illinois get a bowl berth? I'd be surprised if they did.
  18. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 28, 2011 -> 11:15 AM) The problem for Illinois is that its going to be hard for them to lure an impact coach without breaking the bank. Paul Chryst (Wisconsin's coordinator) isnt going to Illinois, he turned down the Dallas Cowboys OC job and most people believe he isnt going to leave Madison until his kids are out of HS (Chryst is from Madison and went to school there), I personally think that Illinois should try and get a well respected coordinator/HC who is going to run a pro-style offense. No reason Illinois cant be as successful as a team like MSU. I would love this. I'm so tired of the f'n spread offense. Speaking of, got a good laugh when some analyst this weekend was talking about the impact Urban Meyer would bring with this newfangled thing called a spread offense. He apparently didn't know that a good chunk of the league (Illinois, Purdue and Michigan, and to an extent OSU and Indiana) already has the scheme in place, and has for a number of years.

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Nov 28, 2011 -> 11:14 AM) Herschel's wife was pregnant? I didn't pick that up Yeah pretty sure Herschel told Rick that in their big talk in the house. I thought it was odd too since he's so old. Maybe I heard it wrong.
  21. Jenksismyhero replied to Kyyle23's topic in SLaM
QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Nov 28, 2011 -> 11:07 AM) Agreed. I liked how they handled that. I also was not expecting Sophia in the barn. When it was clear there was another zombie left to walk out, I thought it was going to be Herschel's wife. I'm really surprised they didn't make a point to show her getting put down along with Herschel's reaction. Oh well. I suppose that makes sense about Shane, though the reverse is that he's the only one with the balls to make the decision to not mess around with a barn full of zombies. And yeah, I thought it was going to be Herschel's wife with Shane having to make a decision about whether to kill a pregnant woman (and the ramifications of that - would the baby be infected also)? Same (and better) idea with Sophia though.
  22. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Nov 27, 2011 -> 10:10 PM) There is a few rumors that the Bulls will sign T-Mac when FA starts. In fact.. Steven A. Smith (who was the only one who reported the big 3 to Miami rumor from his sources) said you can "bet the house that T-Mac will be a bull" on a radio show. He throws so much s*** against the wall occasionally some of it sticks.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 28, 2011 -> 10:27 AM) You do need someone to bring the fans back, I read in the ST today that ILL averaged under 10k their capacity. You need to bring in someone with an explosive offense or an electric defense to bring the crowds in. If they are going for coordinators to promote I would go for Chryst or the DC for MSU. And if Urban Meyer didnt get the hate flowing for OSU yet, apparently Mike (im an asshole) Stoops is reportedly the next d coordinator. Illinois fans are like White Sox fans - they show up when the team plays well, but not if they don't. What's really sad to me is that even students fail to show up. It's one thing to have some empty upper deck seats, it's another to not sell out the student section (it is most of the time, but even against ranked opponents this year it was probably 95% full). They need to make a big splash here. Hopefully the admn realizes the importance of making a good hire. The roster still has lots of talent, and the defense should still be pretty good next year. I say raise the salary (Zook was making 1.5...maybe up it to 2-2.5) and go after a big name.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 28, 2011 -> 10:40 AM) Seriously, how did no one suspect that ? I didn't hear that rumor even once, and it suddenly seems so obvious. They got us good. I'm utterly baffled by what the CDC guy must have told Rick. I assumed it was about Lori being pregnant, but Rick seemed genuinely surprised by that revelation (not so much about the relationship she had with Shane, though). I'm also not sure where they go from here. They obviously have to leave the farm eventually, but there really isn't much reason for it to happen now. I would assume that it is suddenly overrun by zombies, just like at the quarry. And I can't stress how cool it is that Rick finally stepped into the driver's seat in that final scene. He was too soft up until that point. I was torn by this. I think it would have made more sense for Shane to do it. He went all crazy and that could have been his "oh s***, i'm as bad as they are. Dale was right" moment. Instead Rick stole that just for what? To show he can make a tough decision? Eh.
  25. Jenksismyhero replied to Kyyle23's topic in SLaM
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 27, 2011 -> 11:00 PM) As boring as this season has been, that was one great "mid-season" finale for Walking Dead. There was closure, the scene between Shane and Dale was tense as could be, and Rick finally stepped up and showed that he has the balls to do what needs to be done to lead. Agree that was a pretty good episode. Couple of gripes my wife and I talked about afterwards: What ever happened to the black guy and his son that Rick was supposed to talk to every morning? Are we supposed to forget about them? And why hasn't Rick revealed what the CDC guy told him? You'd think in a "are zombies capable of being saved or should we just shoot them all" debate, whatever he was told would be somewhat important.
