  1. Like seriously...if they hire Dawson and some random dude that they love (few others love him too) for HC I just might have to quit having a favorite team in the NFL.
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 8, 2015 -> 12:34 PM) Alright...I'm going to do some Steve like reporting and decide that we will hear that our new GM, Chris Ballard, was part of the Bowles interview. By the end of today we will know who are GM is (I think the Bears brass already knows) and if the Bears like what they hear from Bowles, they will make an aggressive push to stop him from visiting the Niners / Falcons later on. This would be nice. I am really afraid the Bears are going to come out of left field with some crazy hire of every one we would least expect for both GM and coach. LOL
  3. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 8, 2015 -> 10:58 AM) Saw this on another board. This is from someone who "supposedly" has a close connection to someone within the Bears organization. Take it for what you will, but the individual indicates the Bears will announce they have hired Pace prior to interviewing Bowles. Evidently he blew the Bears away. I am still hoping it is Ballard. Wow this would shock me if it happened. After all the talk and rumblings it seemed for sure Ballard was the guy.
  4. Ok well that settles it then. I hope Winston fails so you guys can be wrong in your strong convictions and I can be right.
  5. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 8, 2015 -> 07:27 AM) This season yes. He also had no one to throw to. Rashad Greene is a 2nd-3rd round pick, Nick O'Leary was a top 5 college TE and then his #2-4 WR were freshmen and his RBs were a SR converted safety with bad hands and a true freshman RB. People don't realize that he had nothing to work with. I can remember at least 4 or 5 INTs that were a direct result of the WR dropping/deflecting the pass. That's not to totally excuse him, but he was forced to work with not much help. Not really similar at all actually. As far as their final college years they are, in fact they arguably had better numbers because they didnt have all the interceptions that he had. To be clear though, as a whole he obviously put up better overall numbers than those two. Especially with his out of this world freshman year. I just cant ignore the fact that some of his success should be attributed to the system and then to add on all the negative outside stuff he is not a real great prospect IMO.
  6. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 7, 2015 -> 05:10 PM) Peyton Manning threw 22 TD's & 10 picks in his first two seasons in college. Winston threw 65 and 28 picks. Peyton actually threw more picks his 3rd and 4th season (23) than during his 1st two seasons. Peyton's numbers were over the course of 22 games while Winston's were over course of 27 games. Jamarcus Russell and Ponder also had great numbers under Jimbos system.
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 7, 2015 -> 05:04 PM) Many of the things he is getting criticized about arent even a concern in the NFL, we only care now because he is in college. They would be concerned with rape allegations.
  8. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 7, 2015 -> 02:06 PM) His make-up and decision making are major concerns, but purely from the standpoint of NFL QB ability, a lot of talent evaluators believe he is the strongest pro-style QB to come out since Luck. How many of the great NFL QB's would we have said this about coming out of college? Particularly with it being a major concern. Because he is going to go so high in the draft and there are so many unlikely things that will have to happen across the course of his career in order for him to be that good that I am positive he is going to be a HUGE bust IMHO.
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 7, 2015 -> 01:24 PM) If he didn't have the off the field issues, he would hands down be the 1st player taken in the draft. His football talents are extremely strong and many experts rank those skills amongst the top to come out of the draft in the past 10 years (basically ranking him behind Luck). Not with decision making. And nowadays I think we can all agree that may be the most important trait to have. Jameis made a ton of questionable throws. Albeit many college QB's do make a lot of mistakes but to compare him to Luck is nuts. He isnt even in the parking lot of Lucks ballpark.
  10. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 7, 2015 -> 01:10 PM) Jameis may be a decent QB, but his off the field antics are too much of a red flag for many teams. What is going to help him this year is that its not a deep year for the QB position in the draft. I think its possible that in many other years he would be a guy that could have fallen to the 5 round and later because of all of his issues, This year teams that are thirsty for a QB are going to be desperate enough to take him high. I personally arent even sold on him with physical attributes not even taking into account his character flaws.
  11. Thats like when DRose talks about Taj Gibson as a kid. Its like dude, you are younger! LOL
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 09:52 AM) Jason Bere named Indians bullpen coach. Good for him. Oh how I hearted him when I was a teenager. How do you spell Fosch again?
  13. Whats hilarious about that is that he just goes on and on. Its not like its him giving him a good word or two. He completely goes above and beyond with praise for Trest. Absolutely classic.
  14. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 03:38 PM) Hell no...I'm too cheap to order a steak at a restaurant...unless someone else is buying omg this is so true.
  15. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 03:30 PM) Code for...someone goes, Ernie will probably recommend someone who was affiliated with someone he worked with, I think they'll do that. It would be like someone knowing, Jason likes steak, I think he's going to order a steak at a restaurant tonight. Yeah, maybe I will, but maybe I won't. I think all of these reports are probably inaccurate / premature (including the Ballard offered report) Just order the damn steak, Gage!
  16. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 02:20 PM) Thanks, Dick. Thanks, hi8is. Edit: Can this thread be awarded most useless thread in SOXTALK history yet? Thanks, hi8is. Nah there are some other strong contenders.
  17. He looks like a younger guy, thats too bad. RIP Mr. Sherwin.
  18. Typically plans such as this sound freaking amazing when you have a good buzz going.
  19. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 01:35 PM) Significant experience coaching & scouting, has had higher responsibility for the Chiefs than Emery ever had. Emery was basically a scout...Ballard has been far more involved in real personnel decisions and has a far greater appreciation for what it takes to coach and what players listen to, etc. Supposed to be a very good people person as well and has earned rave reviews from Accorsi and Polian and NFL network analysts have referred to him as a "rockstar" GM candidate based upon what they have heard about him. I also think Bowles would be a fantastic hire, although he presumably is a done deal to the Falcons (or at least a heavy Falcon lean). I think Bowles is the best new coaching candidate out their. I am curious to hear who these coaches have tabbed to be their assistants. I initially wanted and offensive HC but the more I have heard on him and the more I have thought about it I am totally sold on Bowles. In fact, I will be really disappointed if they are not able to get him.
  20. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 01:19 PM) Doesn't mean Bears have hired him yet. He just might not be interested in Jets or may feel like he doesn't have a good shot with Jets and Jets have preference of someone else. All I know is Ballard's resume is very impressive and I am totally on board with his hire. I presume he will be hired but you still have to go through the motions. Does he have an impressive resume though? There is far less accomplishments/leadership positions held by Ballard than what Emery had on his resume when he was hired. He may be a great GM but I would really like to stay away from hiring people have have been products of the Bears system. Ballard is definitely a product of the Bears with a lot of influences from past Bear leaders that have been fired for not getting the job done. He is a hot name but I would have liked to see the Bears to make a bold move to change the course of this thing and I am not sold that Ballard is the guy to do that.
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 01:18 PM) I am guessing you will have chili Nope LOL Ate out over the weekend so no chili experiment yet.
  22. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 01:05 PM) Ballard declined the interview with the Jets. Theorize what you will Jeez. If the Bears have already pretty much told him the job is his why are they doing this song and pony dance? Why do the Bears have to be so predictably inept? Why am I asking these questions? What am I going to eat for lunch today?
  23. Donna Douglas, played Elly May from The Beverly Hillbillies has passed away at the age of 81.
