QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 08:44 PM) Emergency vets suck ass. I just tried calling several of them and not one of them see hamsters. I told them what was wrong and they didn't even offer the meds for it (wet tail is a common ailment, but can and often is deadly). She says to call a local vet tomorrow morning. He isn't going to see tomorrow morning - why can't they give him something to put him to sleep?! Oh, that's right he won't make them enough money. Where is that f you finger when you need one?! Editted to add: Apparently the other hamsters are not letting him die alone. The two closest to him have moved their nests to the corners closest to Stinky's cage. Thanks for letting me get this out here. I love my little Stinky. Brian said that is always made him laugh because he knew when I was coming home - within five minutes of me walking through the door Stinky would run downstairs to his little door to wait for me and would stand on his hind legs after I closed the door behind me to get my attention lol. I would put him in his ball and instead of meandering where he pleased, he would follow me around and if I was in the shower he would repeatedly roll into the door until I opened it. I hope a miracle happens, but I think he might be beyond miracles at this point. Sorry to hear about Stinky. If you need someone to roll into the door until you open it, while your taking a shower, I'm certain there are many volunteers here for you. BTW, it is harder to get into Vet school than Medical school. for Stinky and the family.

Looking at the weather map all I can think of is Rita, nothing can come between us.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 04:13 AM) Well, just call it a guess, but I believe we'll be needing some oil in a decade. But I could be wrong. And for the oil companies wanting to drill in other areas, wtf is wrong with that? We need oil, they are in business to supply it to us. When 25% of our domestic oil comes from one geographic area, and it gets hammered with a natural disater, it seems diversity in location just might be a good idea. There are economic concerns as well. If this is $100 a barrel oil based on the logistics of getting it to market, will it be viable? There are some places that it just doesn't make sense to drill. Easy example, 1 mile from the water intake for Chicago, where a spill would result in the city having no clean water. So the oil for profit companies do need to be held in check for the public's greater good.

QUOTE(winodj @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 07:43 PM) I really enjoyed my time in Boy Scouts. I wish I could still be a part of the organization as an adult and help give back for all that it gave me as a kid. And DJ, that is a source of some inner conflict for me that you couldn't openly and honestly be a volunteer. However, if you are ever in South Texas, there is a Troop that would welcome you with open arms. It's a terrible quandary. I respect the rights of private groups to set membership standards from their group, but don't agree with the standards this organization's Charter Partners (mostly Churches) has set. BTW, I spent the weekend on South Padre Island with out new Venture Crew. 6 boys and 3 girls. We had a blast. Kayaking, snorkeling, swimming, cooking. Monte Cristo sandwiches for lunch, peel and eat shrimp boil for appetizers, fish florentine with rice and snow pea pods for dinner and a chocolate upside down cake for dessert. My boys really know how to cook, I've taught them well. For breakfast, while I was kayaking with some dolphins, the kids set up a pancake buffet, blueberries, chocolate chip, nuts, and whipping cream. Meanwhile, and the parents thank me for being a leader

New Season
b****ing about the season at this point, with the mountain of good to me is like complaining about a blemish on . I have spent too much time as a Sox fan in seasons that are over by now, to not want to enjoy this one. Usually this time of year we would be wondering about the September call ups. Anyone want to post when the last time was that the Sox were in the playoffs twice in the same decade? So I respect the fans who wish to wring their hands and concentrate and argue the 100 ways this team could fold and miss the playoffs. Those that want to assign blame before it happens. It seems like mental fan bulimia to me. Eat this great season and then puke it up before you even know what dessert will be? IF we miss the playoffs, I'll be puking with you, but until then, I'm as happy as can be. I still have a lot of faith in this team, holes and all. Come October some of y'all may be happy saying I told you so. But the time you spent being happy will be far less than the time I've spent happy and excited about this season.

How has the Sox recent slide
QUOTE(knightni @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 12:28 PM) It's football season. For a long time I didn't look at baseball until the Bulls season ended and put them away as soon as the Bears started. Nice that recently, the season has stretched to fill gaps in other non competing teams.

Oops, sweet tea, and no you cannot recreate it by adding lots of sugar to your ice tea. The sugar has to be added when hot so it creates a supersaturated liquid.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 10:45 AM) Plus I imagine down there you can't spit without hitting a BBQ shack. That would be my un-doing. Though I have my own pijt and everything...and I'm getting pretty handy with it, so I expect by next year Dom Deluise will be looking trim and fit. Not as many as further north. We have a couple good ones and Rudy's, the best chain. Plus, I'm usually not too bad at a BBQ joint. 1/2 chicken, rice, beans, onion, pickle, jalapenos, and a sweat tea suits me just fine. I also have cut way back on the chicken fried steak smothered in white gravy.

If we somehow miss the postseason
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 05:07 PM) Terry Bevington is still available. He handles pitching staffs equally well. I see Bevington a couple times a year. He's managing in the Central League. Nice guy. Let's fire the GM and Manager for having The best record in the AL on September 16th Rookie of the Year candidate 90+ wins Even if the team fails to make the playoffs, they will have a top 4 or 5 record in the league. If instead, the team was 20 games out and had a great September, would you be chanting keep him? This is a great season by any standard. I hate to say it, but I wish we had a little more Cub fan in all of us. The kind that is willing to see positive through the fog.

Actually Texas was a big part of the weight gain. You can stop pretty much anywhere and get a breakfast taco. I love an egg, cheese, bean, and potato. I imagine there is about 800-1,000 calories in one. Mexican food in general is laden with fats. And I love creamy stuff. Then there is the being on the road, eating fast food everyday. I figure before I reached home for dinner, most days I was at 2,500 - 3,000 calories. Then I love to cook. I was walking while playing at the club, but my regular group went a way and I was in a golf cart again. So I was adding calories again. Little changes I could make stick have made the difference. Cutting back on some foods and walking a bit more. Skipping meals when I am not hungry in favor of a small snack later. Without the snack I would over eat the next meal.

cards clinched today
They must have a great manager, I wonder why we never seem to get managers like that. Maybe I should send an email to Hawk . . .

I didn't weigh myself after hitting 220, and I assume I may have gone even heavier. I'm at 195, and though 185 would be good, but I think I may need to drop even lower. The slow drop was walking and watching what I ate. The final push was a nasty flu Tuesday night and not eating for a couple days. It also helps a friend of mine is also working on losing some pounds and we've been encouraging each other.

New Season
How can anyone not feel good about a 17 game season and being given a 4.5 game head start, and playing your closest competitor 6 times? This is sooo awesome There isn't a fan on this board that wouldn't have gladly taken this position leaving Spring Training. How about a season where we were in 1st Place the entire time? Starting All-Star Pitcher? Voting in Pods? Possible Rookie of the Year? Soxtalk poster BMAC3520 achieving a career goal. Best record in the AL. It's a new season starting today. I'm going to enjoy every last moment. Get your recorders going. It's the home stretch and it's going to be fun.

I just stepped on the scale, I'm down 25 pounds from a year ago and none of you noticed. I'm close to my goal weight, but now I'm thinking I may have to adjust my goal down a bit more.

Dennis Miller's right arm
He had it in a sling a couple years ago on his show. I noticed it again last night in the NetZero commercial. He keeps the arm in his pocket throughout the commercial and it just seems awkward.

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 08:57 AM) In addition to my above posts, I can understand why girls would rather join boy scouts instead of girls scouts. I was in girl scouts for a couple years and it was (just about) the MOST boring experience I have ever had. My brother was in boy scouts for a couple years and actually did fun, educational stuff. There are merit badges you and Brian could teach. Most Troops are always looking for someone who wants to offer an interesting program. Auto Mechanics, Electronics, Electricity, are a few that come to mind. The Auto Mechanics is tough for a younger (11-14) Scout, but the older guys do well.

Be thankful, your skin will look more youthful throughout your life if you are still getting an occasional zit. It shows you aint drying out. BTW, 44 and had a nasty one growing on my nose right before a major awards program I was MCing.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 08:30 AM) My best friend, neighbor, guy I work next to for 8 hours a day, started a company with 2 of his other friends and some guy he met at a bar. The company is taking off, leaving me hanging here at work a bit. Is it wrong that I more or less hate him for having not even bothered to ask me if I wanted in on the opportunity to get in on the company? Like I said, I've known him forever, we built houses next to each other, we work right next to each other. I already told my wife that if he gets rich off it this thing, I will be done with him forever. Is that wrong? He knows many of my struggles, and he knows how much I hate my job. I would think I atleast deserved a "hey...this is what we are doing...do you want in?". Don't you? I ask this now because once again he is taking time off work for this new business. Maybe he wasn't in position to invite anyone else, he was asked himself. He may have even suggested you but the other guys turned you down. Some businessess can't support 4 guys let alone 5 Maybe he thought it was too risky and didn't want to jeopordize your friendship if it failed. If you were a chick, inviting him to coffee and carefully expressing your feelings of being left out would be a good approach. I would suggest a more civilized, hey asshole, wtf? I ain't good enough for this new deal? Why don't you buy me a beer, a good beer, not that piss you drink, and explain it to me? Couple hours later, I love ya man. Like a friggin' brother man.

How has the Sox recent slide
I bought new underwear, got a haircut, planning some snorkling in the Gulf this weekend, trying to think of an appropriate way to recognize my daughter for being selected as a campus Ambassador at her High School. So yes, it has effected me a lot. I have such a weird, eery, calm about this team. I am usually the glass is half empty guy with this team, and for some reason I have a ton of faith and see a lot of smiles in October. No, I have not been drinking. I have never had a hunch like this with the Sox in 30+ years. Maybe it's gas.
