  1. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 10, 2005 -> 07:37 AM) Seriously, does any album flow together better than Sgt Pepper? did you catch both references?
  2. http://www.chicagocrime.org/ Interesting site, using Google maps to pinpoint high crime areas.
  3. Magic Bird ( he didn't need a nickname) Montana (another guy who didn't need one)
  4. Telander is by far, my favorite sports author. I'm surprised he committed to radio. I always viewed him as more of an in-depth, feature guy vs. a little bit of everything for a radio show guy.
  5. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 08:43 PM) Yeah him and Hitler... they were just misunderstood. Comparing Dean to Hitler
  6. I would like to point out that the moderating team is a large cross section of Soxtalk. Not everyone is an old fart like YASNY. With that comes a very healthy debate on the back side of how to make this site friendly for a wide range of posters. We have created forums and sub forums with this in mind. Some posters have a majority of posts in forums other than Pale Hose Talk. Others, never stray from White Sox Baseball threads. We hope there is room for everybody who wishes to be friendly, courteous, and kind. We have many examples of heated debates that did not step over and become rude. Unfortunately, we have some current threads, over silly topics, that have become rude to the point of needing to be closed. I've always used the party analogy. You come to the party, meet a few people, make a couple "friends", share some stories, hell get drunk and sing Brandy, Your a Fine Girl, at the top of your lungs and no one will care. Get drunk, call the guy next to you an idiot, piss in the corner, disrespect the guy who is throwing the party, and you *will* be leaving. Sometimes until you sober up, sometimes when many pages from the calendar have turned. If you think while suspended you can come in through the bedroom window, protected by a silver spoon, it will be a very long time before you are welcomed back. And normally when the drunk is tossed out, the party gets better.
  7. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 09:43 AM) Congrats!!!!!! That is soooooooo exciting!!!!!! (Plus, baby girl clothes are way more fun to shop for....) That is sooooo true.
  8. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 07:14 PM) The problem lies just as much w/ posters, old as well as new, who are impatient and carry grudges from one thread to the next. The 'riffing' after a bad idea does seem to drag on and on. It's easy to blame the problems on newbies, but I don't see that. Jmho. I have a ton of respect for a few posters who go toe to toe in one forum, never agreeing, and can bury the hatchet and agree in another. For example Nuke should be living as a Neanderthal in a cave and is an absolute idiot on foreign policy and politics in general, but somehow is a genius when it comes to baseball.
  9. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 10:17 AM) Thanks for scanning your book, Jim.
  10. I cannot speak for the other mods and admins but some posters have earned a level of respect and perhaps preferential treatment. Just like the NBA, a known commodity and superstar gets the calls. My thought process a lot of times works like this. Man, that's weird that XYZ poster jumped all over that guy, he's never been like that in the past 12 months. This new guy has been here one week and already he's in a flame war with someone. One flame in 12 months is probably no big deal. One flame the first week you are here, it gets attention. As a mod I feel that Jason (ChiSoxfn) has entrusted me to help in a small way. In turn we trust posters to act like adults and behave at this party. I'd give my best friend the keys to my truck without hesitation, I wouldn't to someone I met a month ago. I trust long term posters to act responsibly and when they get a little out of line, I politely as possible ask them to edit, modify, reword, delete, etc. I can say in the time I have been a mod, every poster who has been here more than a year has complied. The b****ing has always been from someone who has only been here a short time. What does that say?
  11. So are you blaming the agent or the team? It would seem that the pressure is on the other agents to perform for their players as well Boras could ask for $60,000,000 for Crede but no team is going to pay it. Nothing really happens until some owner ponies up the cash.
  12. he looks plastic . . .
  13. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 07:46 AM) Went missing? Heck with the corruption up there, they probably sold them. I think they are in Syria, let's invade them and find out

  16. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 07:19 AM) I really didn't think so during the trial, but supposedly the longer the jury is out, the worse it is for Jackson... Now where is my sticker? It should have turned your finger purple . . .

  18. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 07:18 AM) Well we ended up having the exact same problem. Imagine that, my kid not cooperating. Heck some doc somewhere is probably ready to label the baby and put it on a drug... Anyways after much maniputation and coaxing, it looks like we are going to have a girl. It is still on the earliest possible time period to make a judgement, but it didn't look like any equiptment was present, and the start of a labia was. It was very cool, and everything looks to be healthy and developing A-OK. Or *he* could be hung like his daddy Before y'all get pissy on me, I know y'all were thinking it And congrats again SS
  19. Counts 2 to 5: Molestation. The charge is that between February 20, 2003 and March 12, 2003, "Jackson willfully, unlawfully and lewdly committed a lewd and lascivious act upon the accuser with the intent of arousing, appealing to, and ratifying the lust, passions, and sexual desires of himself and the accuser." This refers to two counts of the boy himself saying "Michael Jackson molested me, and two counts of his brother saying, "I saw Michael Jackson molesting him." Sentence: For each count, Michael Jackson could face up to eight years in prison.

  23. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 12:08 AM) The Scrabble tournaments ESPN shows are fun to watch too! I love top level scrabble.
  24. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 06:27 PM) Who said a player should settle for less money? That is a completely different question. You asked if the teams were getting hurt. I think for everyone except the upper echelon teams, they benefit by not signing Borass guys as they are able to sign comparable players for less money, and then have the ability to build around those players moreso than if they wasted that money on one player. But not all Boras clients are upper echelon players earning multi-year, multiple-million dollar paychecks. Definition time: Boras Player, any player he represents. Boras Player, A-Rod etc. earning multiples of tens of millions of dollars. Or are you extending Boras' negotiations to include a guy near the minimum who may make an extra $100,000 because he had Boras representing him? I hesitate to throw this example on the fire, but doesn't Boras represent Crede? I doubt Crede's contract prevented us from signing any free agent. I think we are in total agreement that committing a huge chuck of your payroll to one or two stars is not a path to the post season. Baseball requires too many players, and any one individual will not have enough AB or defensive chances to make a big enough impact. So yes the Rangers are now the poster child for payroll management. I think YAS brings up an excellent point. In a sense Boras is also helping his clients to winning teams based on some of the smaller market teams passing. I understand the business side of baseball, I just worry when alongside height weight position played is the agent's name as an important tool in evaluating talent. Soon, players will be able to almost hand select what team they are going to based on who their agent is.
  25. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 03:44 PM) Lol, my sister and I were both supposed to boys. Hopefully SS's turns out to be correct or he might have a little boy sleeping in a pink room. How do we know you aren't a guy pretending to be a Soxy?
