  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 11, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) Then they totally belong in the second tier of people who should be here. Silly me, I would like to be around people who want to be here. I thought that was crazy until I saw people who wanted to see the Sox lose in May. Maybe the US gets a higher draft pick next year or something? As we were reciting the Texas pledge this morning I realized I may agree with you more than I thought. I have the same opinion of folks that move to Texas and refuse to say the Texas Pledge Honor the Texas Flag I Pledge Allegiance to Thee Texas, One Nation Under God One and Indivisible Worse are non Texans that do not stand with their hand over their heart during the Texas anthem. For shame.
  2. QUOTE (mr_genius @ May 14, 2010 -> 03:03 PM) toh-may-toh toh-mah-toh either way, still a most righteous win. Nice to see the US could kick the same ass that Texas kicked.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 14, 2010 -> 02:59 PM) Well if the history of Chicano's in America is being taught, there are some electives left. I just remember so much more flexibility in scheduling when I was in High School. Now they have all these programs from scholars to whatever and you get like 3 or 4 electives in four years. And the craziest of all are the "required electives".
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 14, 2010 -> 02:51 PM) They don't speak English, therefore, they must be clueless. But if you speak Spanish slowly and loudly. people will understand.
  5. QUOTE (mr_genius @ May 14, 2010 -> 02:45 PM) check this out a painting of the US occupying Mexico City. wish i could have been there. bask in a most noble victory over the clueless Spaniards. The Spainiards were kicked out in 1821, this was Mexico.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 14, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) I missed wimpy up until Stone got into the booth. Now, I don't care. ^^ x2 ^^
  7. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ May 14, 2010 -> 12:27 PM) can he hit? f*** that, what we really need is someone that can teach hitting . . .
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 14, 2010 -> 02:42 PM) I know it wouldn't be permitted under this law, I am just curious how far the freedom of education goes in people's minds. What freedom of education? With all the standardized tests, fewer and fewer choices of textbooks, everyone winds up teaching about the same stuff.
  9. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 14, 2010 -> 01:05 PM) So because there are no references to Mexicans regarding the Revolutionary War, you think it is ok to teach them that American 'stole' part of their country and such? To be divisive? All this does is fuel the racial animosity even more by trying to give them victim status. After the Tejanos defeated Mexico and gained their independence there was a dispute over where the boundary was between the Republic of Texas and Mexico. The US claimed the Rio Grande River, Mexico claimed the Nueces River. Since Mexico did not recognize the Republic as legal and valid, they never really pursued the issue. Later, when the US annexed the Republic of Texas, tensions started. With manifest destiny on every one's lips, the US basically taunted and provoked Mexico into a war. After winning the war, the US took over about half of Mexico's land. Whether you want to use the word stole or not, we were a conquering army. The public believed that God wanted the US to stretch from sea to shining sea. About 1/4th of the lower 48 is land that formerly was Mexico. Our motivation for the war was to take land from Mexico.
  10. That would be the Mexican-American war that we started.
  11. The immigrant story we tell is always through New York, very little history or literature is about San Francisco and the Asians that immigrated. Still less are the people that were here when the boundaries started changing or who walked here. It is totally ignored from *our* history.
  12. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 13, 2010 -> 05:01 PM) Holy s*** this seems so obvious that I'm ashamed that I didn't think of it. It's a variation on the sign and trade I call the buy and trade. I've also used it when something goes on sale at another store soon after I buy a big ticket item.
  13. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 13, 2010 -> 05:06 PM) It's all about the protecting children! What kind of job are they gonna get with an ethnic studies degree anyway? They just stopping them before they become a greater burden on their parents and society in general. It's all about protecting the children! (That's what the liberals scream for every thing they do, right?) (also, this post should be in half-green text) yep, all they need to know is "if it ain't white, it just ain't right"
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 11, 2010 -> 03:49 PM) I'll get into more details later. Cool. It seems the decision comes down to smaller but fragmented or huge and cumbersome. But it seems obvious to me that the regulations have not kept up with technology. Plus, with so much money at stake, staying ahead of the regulations is doable and really possible.
  15. In the 1950s (Brown V. Board of Education era) exactly none of the Supremes had prior judicial experience. It wasn't until the appointment became a political event, with party wins and loses associated with the confirmation that sitting judges became the norm. The list of judges without prior experience is amazing.
  16. And we continue to fight for minimum wage jobs for Americans while companies get H1B Visas to bring in foreign workers earning 5x or 6x minimum wage. Well maybe those foreign workers can hire our kids and pay them minimum wage. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 12, 2010 -> 01:18 PM) Yet we have 10% national unemployment, and about 20% when you factor in everything. And lets not forget that the rates are highest amongst the lowest educated brackets... In otherwords, I don't buy it.
  17. The poll finally loaded. Actually I was the first in my neighborhood for Roadrunner at 5Mps about 10 years ago. Sadly, at my new place, I will be tied to DSL at 3Mps until they upgrade service in about 6 months. Then they are promising 25Mps. Brand f***ing new construction but we are tied to the 5 year old development behind us.
  18. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ May 11, 2010 -> 04:01 PM) BLASPHEMY!! You're dead to me. technically speaking you calling blasphemy is kind of like Rush complaining about drug cartels.
  19. Hoping to relax a little and looking at last night's schedule, it was easy to decide which game would be more relaxing between the Hawks in a clinching game or the Sox v. Minny. I chose the Hawks
  20. However you do it, nothing better than breaking in a new glove.
  21. SS. Serious question, I don't have a dog in this fight, after you "blow up the current system" how would you recreate it? Second question, what flexibility would you add to allow for new technology? This seems like the one area with all the money involved, that the private sector will always outspend the regulators in trying to make a buck.
  22. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ May 11, 2010 -> 02:43 PM) Mauer and Morneau have no hits vs this guy, however the whole league does. not certain why, but I laughed
  23. I'm not saying they do not want to be here, in fact I am certain most students want to be here. I think most business guys getting some overseas experience want to be here. I'm not certain why you would want someone like DBAHO in some second tier or, as others have said (not you) for him to reject all things Aussie.

QUOTE (Brian @ May 10, 2010 -> 02:34 PM) I know a dude that hooked up with a ?? on Craigs List. He had to do ?? with a bunny suit on though. fixed
  25. Few thoughts. Not everyone here is planning on staying forever. There are students, people on a temporary work assigment, etc. Actually way more than you think. I don't expect them to suddenly embrace all things American. People have different ways to show their love of country. I never agreed with the America, love it or leave it point of view. We have the right to criticize the government. I guess some of y'all would be unhappy to hear my students signing the Star Spangeld Banner in French, Spanish, and English?
