  1. Cuban has an email address that he supposedly responds to himself. A friend of mine has emailed him a couple times and once joked to him that he should buy the White Sox. If I remember correctly he responded that owning a baseball team is bad investment. This was probably a couple years ago. FWIW
  2. It's funny what one game's performance can do to how people feel about guys. If marte struggles yesterday he's "done" and "not the same marte as a couple years ago", but instead he strikes out three guys and is now a stud reliever. I hope he continues pitching lights out and his injury is in the past but I'm not gonna let one game (good or bad) determine a guy's value.
  3. If anyone was scouting contreras and marte tonite I'm sure they were very impressed. Meanwhile Burnett pitches pretty bad.
  4. QUOTE(TheDybber @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 05:23 PM) What if the Marlins picked up half of Lowell's contract? That might not be a bad trade. Then we would def. have to deal BMac. If Contreras is part of the deal, and that's a huge if, that would almost balance out lowell's for this year and next year.
  5. QUOTE(Tadahito15 @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 05:17 PM) This is true. It is just a gamble on whether or not he can make a BIG comeback. I dont know what has been wrong with him since the second half last year... I agree it's a gamble, most trades are. I'm going to trust KW and Ozzie's experience with the Marlins to make the decision on if it's a gamble worth making.
  6. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 04:50 PM) In terms of 1b next year, let's not forget that if he's healthy, we don't have a bad backup in Ross Gload. The guy played almost half a season for us last year, hit .321, with 7 home runs and 44 driven in over exactly 250 plate appearances. OBP of .375, OPS of .854. These are not bad numbers for a guy making $335,000 a year. And from the left side of the plate as well. Scale that up and we'd be talking about a guy who could drive in nearly 100 runs with nearly 20 home runs, and those were his numbers basically as a rookie. He has put up good numbers at AAA ball this year as well. And he's never made an error in his MLB career at 1b (others have said he's very good over there). For a backup option, he's certainly not a bad one...if he's healthy. If he could run off a whole season with those numbers, he'd be better than anyone on my list of "who could we play there". The shoulder is the whole key, IMO. Gload as the backup first baseman is the ideal situation for the sox.
  7. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 05:11 PM) They signed a 5th starter ... check. They signed Iguchi ... check. They signed AJ Pierzynski and later Chris Widger ... check They signed Hermanson ... check. They signed Jermaine Dye ... check. Wow, once in a while I AM right. Nice to know I didn't totally freak out on Novemberquickman30th. Your on shaky ground calling Hermanson a power arm but the rest is golden.
  8. QUOTE(Tadahito15 @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 05:02 PM) I would have to agree about Burnett NOT outweighing the Lowell v. Crede difference. If Lowell's numbers arent bad enough this year, his contract situation is even worse for his perfomance :puke . I would only do this deal if somehow Lowell and Crede arent included and we give up someone else, like a highly touted prosect. It just seems silly to downgrade at 3B when we could also use some offense on top of great pitching. If this trade were to go down, we would really have to depend on Lowell providing a lot of offense. Let me ask you this. If KW wanted to trade for lowell, how do you think KW would want him to play? Would he want him to be having a career year or a down year? You want to trade for players when thier value is lowest and trade your own guys whose value is highest. For an example of this see Koch for Foulke.
  9. If Contreras is major part of this deal (based on the post about them coveting him) than esencially we turned esteban loaiza into aj burnett.
  10. QUOTE(TheDybber @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 04:26 PM) Konerko might not have range, but he can pick 'em. And that's what's most important, at least to me, for a first baseman. Diving stops up the line are good to look at, but those don't happen every game. Short hops from the hole or a barehanded scoop and throw happen much more often and Paulie's pretty damn good at it. And now that he's got some protection in the lineup, I think we will have a much better second half. All speculation, of course. As for contracts, unless the Yanks or Dodgers or some other team offer him something outrageous, he's probably going to stay. I seem to remember reading somewhere he didn't like being bounced around from the Dodgers to the Reds to the Sox. And Dye at first, meh. Still, let's think about this year and then worry about next year after the trophy presentation. The one thing that Dye and a lot of other first basemen have on konerko is height. he has to jump up to catch the ball and tag out the runner more than anyone i've ever seen.
  11. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 04:26 PM) Wedge.. I agree. But they don't. They think they are going to beat both the Yanks and Boston. Really.. they do.. And they should feel that way. This is the best position they have been in in a long time.
  12. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 04:22 PM) Not coming. He could decide to come here as a rent-a-pitcher and sign with the jays next year. the jays aren't going to make the playoffs so why not try to put us over the top and sign his big money deal after the season.
  13. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 03:56 PM) THe Marlins beat-writer was just on 670WSCR and confirmed that 12 teams are after Burnett, but the 3 major teams interester are Baltamore, Toronto and the White Sox. He said the Marlins have been interested in Contreras for over 2 years now- and see him as there potential closer. He also said the Marlins want to dump Mike Lowell's contract so would most likely have to be involved with this trade. So this trade would most likely be: Contreras, Marte and Crede for Burnett and Lowell. WOW- thats Blockbuster. I would do that deal. If sox doctors say burnett and lowell are healthy, i think the sox would do this.
  14. I think Konerko would prefer to sign here even if it meant taking slightly less money (about 9 mil a year) but I think KW would rather spend that money on pitching. Obviously it all depends on how far we go this year but the 1B options for '06 are: A) resign Konerko B) free agency/not likely C) Trade /Casey,Overbay, nick johnson, huff etc. (lotta lefties out there) D) In house/ Gload/Dye/Everett super platoon in RF/1B E) Our minor league system, Rogo?/not likely
  15. You misunderstood. He's a clubhouse Dancer. Does a wicked cabbage patch i hear.
  16. QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 05:17 PM) Scott Podsednik, because then all the ladies would be around. Picking up Pods leftovers would be a full time job. A very fun full time job.
  17. I would say willie. if he was on the fandeck with me he wouldn't be in the lineup.
  18. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 03:29 PM) If they wanted to make money, they should have a fantasy camp that involves the fundamental girls. That would take Reinsdorf type money to participate in.
  19. QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 03:05 PM) I am not some 15 year old with a crush on a player. Get the players, and its OZZies job to put them where they belong.
  20. The only thing juiced last nite were the baseballs. Carlos hit one off the end of the bat and it went over the wall in the left center gap.
  21. I imagine if we were picking up boone to replace willie harris as starting 2b and only paying pro-rated league minimum and a nobody minor leaguer, lots of people would be pretty happy about it.
  22. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 11:18 AM) Where's this thread at? LOL. Check out some of the archives, there must be 101 threads about this very subject. I still endorse sending Timo down for Gload. A) Gload is a better left-handed bat, no two ways about it. B ) He is this team's current backup 1B C) I still believe that little s*** is valuable off the bench and to spell Iguchi when need be. I think Dye is now the back up 1B and I don't see why Ozuna can't back up 2B.
  23. about willie harris being sent down and gload being brought up. after last nite's game this must have happened. maybe they are waiting to give willie a early wake up call and bus ticket. edit:sorry just saw the massive harris thread, if a mod wants to merge it into there that is cool.
  24. Ozzie leaving shingo in last nite now makes a heap more sense as i suspect marte was unavailable and hermie was the last guy out in the pen. Ya beat me Yas.
  25. Also this throws a wrench in any trades KW was trying to pull that might have involved marte.
