If there are bases loaded and a drop third strike occurs doesn't the catcher just have to step on the plate to force the runner on third out? If I am remembering correctly, when you have a drop third strike with the bases loaded the batter is entitled to first base. edit: i found the rule, the batter is automatically out because first base is occupied and there are less than two outs. If there were two outs and the above happened then the catcher could just step on home.

Is it so much to ask for an interviewer to include his *gasp* questions in an interview article?

Girl, 11, Spared Felony Trial By LISA LEFF, Associated Press Writer Wednesday, August 3, 2005 Printable Version Email This Article (08-03) 10:39 PDT Fresno, Calif. (AP) -- An 11-year-old girl charged with assault with a deadly weapon for throwing a rock at a boy during a water balloon fight was ordered to attend a mediation program with her young victim after her trial was scrapped in juvenile court. Maribel Cuevas was prepared to face a felony trial Wednesday when lawyers reached a deal behind closed doors that allowed her to escape detention and avoid pleading guilty. Cuevas was arrested in April for throwing a two-pound rock at a neighborhood boy who had pelted her with a water-filled balloon. The rock gashed the boy's forehead, and the girl spent five days in Fresno's juvenile hall and a month under house arrest after police said she resisted arrest and scratched an officer's arm. Since then, the girl's behavior and law enforcement's response to it has become water cooler and editorial page staples far from Fresno. The girl's parents joined church leaders and the state chapter of the Rev. Al Sharpton's National Action Network in a vigil last week. They say the felony charge in no way matches her childish crime. But Fresno's mayor and police chief say Maribel's case was handled appropriately, and that assault with a deadly weapon is the proper charge for an act that might have had fatal consequences.

I think people are having trouble differenciating between taking note of a the streak vs. the importance of the streak.

I don't think we would be able to get him this year, but possibly an off-season move. I think they would be looking for young major league ready pitchers and I doubt KW would trade any of our starters unless he swung a deal for AJ or Schmidt.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 08:37 PM) No way Texas moves him. They lose Soriano at the end of the year and will either slide Young over to 2nd or Kinsler (SS prospect) that way. They'd be freaking morons if they dealt Young. However, I'd gladly give up an assload for him. I thought the same when I heard it but they do need pitching badly.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 08:25 PM) that would be awesome but i very much doubt he is available... he was a 2B b4 soriano came anyways. He's played ss last year and all this year. I think he's proven he can play ss.

sorry mods for the multi posts the board was going crazy there for a minute.

I caught a few minutes of the texas game on espn and I thought I heard the announcers mention that he was available. Supposedly Texas feels that with the Kenny Rogers suspension looming they are packing it in. The announcers also said the rangers have some stud ss minor leaguer also. I was surpised to hear he was available if indeed it is correct. I would imagine the price would be steep for him. They need pitching for sure. He would obviously be a huge offensive upgrade and I believe he is good defensively. My guess would be they would want B-Mac and maybe another top minor league pitching prospect to start with.

Unless they plan to put him in the bullpen, I don't want another starter. The bullpen is our number one need right now.

QUOTE(Y2HH @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 08:40 AM) Just remember that these same hot girls you guys fawn over will not be so very hot 15 years later (as most women do not age well, especially the younger hot ones), and then you'll have to put up with their @#$! without the added benefit of them being hot anymore. You'll have one thing to say to yourself...WTF. And yes, I know...15 years sounds like a long time. I used to think that, too. Just wait a few. Considering the fact that 100% of the ladies fawned over on the internet have a 0% chance of ending up with anyone here I don't think there is much of a problem with checking out the scenery.

I asked my wife what she wanted for her birthday. She hinted she wanted something that goes from 0-200 in five seconds. I bought her a scale.

QUOTE(ptatc @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 03:14 PM) This is inaccurrate. AJ said in an interview that until this year he has hit matbe one or two homers in his career to left or left center. I know this is a touchy subject but there are guys who are pull hitters and will always be pull hitters. You can't change it. These are guys who teams have used the "shift" against such as Bonds, Thome and to go way back Ted Williams. I'm not saying its for eveyone but people here have beaten this horse to ashes. If our pull hitters hit like Bonds or Willliams there would be no complaints. Dead pull hitters that hit .240-.250 are fair game for horse beatings. Ortiz last nite was the perfect example. He adjusted his swing to go with the pitch and hit a line drive over crede's head. You have to adjust to where you are being pitched. If you don't you end up being Juan Uribe.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 02:31 PM) Everyone says its not our hitting instructor that is telling them to pull the ball more. For me AJ is his most damning example. A career .288 hitter who is well known as being an all fields hitter. He comes to the sox, has a cup of Joe with Greg. They work on his swing a bit in spring training. Mid season we have great power numbers. Success But oddly a low BA for a good hitter. A guy who is well known as a good hitting catcher. But then again maybe its not Greg telling him to pull the ball like the rest of the team. Maybe its swamp gas. But we are thirty some games over .500 so you have to love him.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 02:24 PM) He hits like AJ used to before Greg worked on his swing with him. That line has me rolling. well played.

QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 03:41 PM) and yet you logged on to post in it, really bad and uncalled for word. just edit it to add the word "post" after really bad and uncalled for word. That would make it OK with this crowd.
