2022 Offseason Plan Thread
I think they’ll be in the 180-190 range at least. But guess what everybody? We’ll know for sure…like, really soon. Chill and watch.

No. Much more uncertainty with Gore than Vaughn (at a position that's inherently more uncertain), and don't think even the likely development into even best-possible outcome matches our timeline.

I like good outcomes better than bad ones. [inappopriate "laugh emoji" heat check...]

I like that we can see the identity of people who "laugh" at posts now. Like, someone "laughed" at the post quoted above -- they looked at this post and thought to themselves, "this person wants the Sox to be good for 5 years rather than two. That is hilarious! I think it's funny to want to be good for a long time, rather than a short time. In fact, I need to show everyone I think so. Bang--done"

2022 Offseason Plan Thread
I'm tired of hearing about different ideas for trading key assets for another third starter. Generic "rotation depth" is not a top need. I mean, we could use it like all teams could use it, but it's not a priority for this team. We need a TOR starter who can take the mound in key playoff games. We should buy one, but if we can't I'm not interested in gutting our team to get just another dude.

I am disturbed by the continued normalization of trading Vaughn.

Robbie Ray to the Mariners, 5 years $115 million
Yes.! They’re also interested in adding an outfielder. You know, like Willie Mays. Also a reliever, like Mariano Rivera

True. I imagine they'll land one of the big fish this offseason.

MLB 2021-2 off season thread
Kind of meaningless, though, when they just signed the other best player in the game (who happens to be a pitcher) a couple years ago. I don't think anybody would ever accuse the Angels of shying away from big signings

2022 Offseason Plan Thread
Yeah, maybe -- I guess that's why it would merely "surprise" me rather than "shock" me ☺️ But at 34/35 I could imagine him buying into a "shared" role for a contender along the lines of what he bought into with the Nats/Suzuki in 2019.

High-end: Trevor Story. Lower/more realistic end: Yan Gomes

Yes -- are we now rolling our eyes and "managing expectations" at moves that would arguably give us the best 1-9 lineup in baseball?

I love regular season soxtalk when the free agents that were going to make or break the team in the offseason completely crater

Justin Verlander re-signs in Houston
Or maybe it means $3M is not a lot of money

Justin Verlander re-signs in Houston
All true, but I would grade it as "great" simply in comparison to my expectation/fear here, which is no SP of any consequence.

The weird trick that obliterates 90% of unfair critiques on this board. "Interesting. And how does that compare to other MLB teams?"

Conforto rejects QO, enters free agency
They go from being minor league prospects to...remaining minor league prospects. Teams trying to contend can't afford to plan around guys in their system who might be good in two or three years.

Me neither. But it's such an Angels move.

Was it? Well, if you want to continue explaining how the Hindenburg proved that dirigibles are the future of luxury travel I'm all ears. Thanks in advance.

Sox to talk about Semien with Boras
Yep. Aces matter. With a healthy McCullers the Astros win it all -- of that I'm certain.

Sox to talk about Semien with Boras
First, I'm not advocating doing nothing to help the offense at all. The question was whether, after adding an MVP candidate to our offense, the very next priority should be to add yet *more* offense/position players. I think not. Also, while the top of the order actually hit pretty well there's no doubt the Sox didn't perform well in any aspect of the game in the series. Of course, there's a small sample size issue with any examination of a single series, but I simply have more trust that the talent in our lineup will bounce back from that SSS than I do in our depleted rotation standing up to a playoff offense. Lynn's whole approach is a poor fit for the Astros, and I don't think we can count on him against a likely playoff opponent, especially a year older. Carlos is gone. There are noticeable gaps in our rotation that need to be addressed.
