QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 25, 2011 -> 04:21 PM) Seriously. There are tons and tons of "Thanksgiving food". How the hell can someone like nothing but the rolls? There are so many types of meats, potatoes, vegetables, casseroles, sauces, breads etc that you can make, it must just be their family cooking ability or selection then. It's crazy how many types of foods you can serve on Thanksgiving and still be considered 'traditional.'- The Finer Things In Life
QUOTE (G&T @ Nov 23, 2011 -> 08:39 AM) Well Thanksgiving is tomorrow so I have to do some shopping. What's everyone planning for tomorrow? Mixing up a batch of hot buttered rum? Breaking out some good saisons (a great idea for the variety of foods on the table)? I'm thinking a bottle of Saison Dupont avec les bons voeux for dinner. Maybe whipping up a good eggnog recipe for later. I also highly recommend the above mentioned saison dupont for anyone thinking of bringing an interesting beer to a party. Even the snobbiest of beer snobs (and probably some wine snobs) will be proud and it should be easy to come by at a decent beer store. It is also universally liked by those who aren't beer geeks. Oh, and it will go nicely with dinner, dessert, appetizers, or on its own. Yeah...I'm getting that. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 23, 2011 -> 08:58 AM) Saison Dupont is one of my all time favorites for sure. Heading out camping for T-Day but it's not cold enough for hot bittered rum. Going with a nice selection of beer and cider and a few bottles of Bouj Neuveaux with our campfire turkey. Saison Dupont is from my favorite Belgium brewery, Dupont Brasserie. The Avec Les Bons Voeux was my first beer of theirs, had it at Delirium Cafe in Brussels, and I have been hooked since. My favorite of theirs though is their Moinette Blonde, my brother's is their Moinette Brune. If you can find the 750ml bottles they run about $9 apiece, which I splurge on occasionally. Absolutely fantastic stuff.- Technology catch-all thread
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Nov 23, 2011 -> 04:41 PM) Thoughts on this guy going that route? Seems to have decent reviews: http://www.amazon.com/LG-LSB316-Wireless-S...h/dp/B004OFHCSK If you're looking for an upgrade from TV speakers, this will do it, but don't expect it to be anything special. But if all you're looking for is something better than stock TV speakers and no wires/easier set up then this would most likely work for you.- Technology catch-all thread
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 23, 2011 -> 04:36 PM) What are you moving to? My new gig has everything in the "cloud" because we are a cloud federation company. Eating their own dog food I guess. Its pretty interesting, you can definitely tell the difference between a company that believes in solutions like google and SFDC and ones that didnt and had no idea how to configure it to be user friendly. Symantec Verisign, which utilizes a lot of "cloud" hosting, which was iffy for many of our upper management but Entrust just wasn't going to work for us.- Technology catch-all thread
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 23, 2011 -> 12:32 PM) I'd like a good way to have wireless rear speakers, but I am not sure the technology is there. My new job is all google everything, its going to take awhile to get used to not doing the VPN/outlook thing. That's pretty crazy, my team is currently taking over our VPN solutions as we switch away from RSA. It's such a big project, probably will last over a year.- Technology catch-all thread
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 23, 2011 -> 08:27 AM) Why do you need a 7.1 receiver if you have just 2 speakers? At least use 5.1! 7.1 requires 7 separate speakers + a sub-woofer (the .1 is the sub). Center (Subwoofer, can be placed/hidden anywhere) Front Left Front Right Center Left (YOU) Center Right Rear Left Rear Right Edit: Apparently the forum doesn't like you adding white space...that text diagram above shouldn't look like that. ^^^ That is what 7.1 looks like if set up properly. 5.1 looks the same minus the two center channels. Easy, I want to expand when Im not a fulltime student/part time employee. Buying a $250 5.1 receiver was just going to be a bad choice for me long term.- Technology catch-all thread
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 11:47 PM) Can someone recommend a "simple" set of speakers to enhance my television watching - mainly sports? I'm not looking to build a huge home theater with 10 speakers, just something with a few that's easy to set up but enhances everything. Not quite sure what to look for. I bought a Sony 7.1 receiver for about $200 on Amazon, along with some Sony SSF-5000 pair speakers for about $100 and some speaker wire and had it set up within an hour (while incredibly hungover). You can upgrade the speakers ($100 for a pair is as cheap as you get, but they sound really good, though could use a bit more bass) or just buy a subwoofer with it. I spent $300 total and Im loving the setup.- Man breaks into KW's house, defrosts lobster

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 01:23 PM) Dale is terrible. Ever since he just let Andrea off the hook for shooting Daryl I agree.- 2011 TV Thread
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 09:37 AM) As stupid as this s*** parade of a show is, does anyone think Shane did all that knowing the area was infested with zombies in order to teach Andrea how to shoot? Also, f*** Dale. Really, dude? You want this dude who continually saves your ass and puts his neck on the line to peace out because he f***ed Andrea? What is Dale's purpose? I f***ing abhor that guy. I did like Shane's little speech to him. It reminded me of Lucious Fox's speech to the guy who tried to blackmail Batman in The Dark Knight. But yes, the Walking Dead is stupid. Also, I like how Lori just happens to know the baby is Rick's. How convenient. I've always hated that b****... I was so happy when her head was in a box in Prison Break, and then they brought the character back to life explaining fake head. F*ck that actress, and f*ck the Walking Dead. Homeland was tits this week. It's feeling VERY 24 now (however, more realistic/believable). I hope they find some way to keep Brody around if they plan a 2nd season. Well to be fair Andrea becomes the best shooter in the graphic novel, so at some point somebody at to push her to becoming that good. Shane should die already, I think it'd be best for the storyline. The show needs some new actors/characters to be introduced. And agreed on Lori, I find her very ugly to go along with her bad acting/bad character. And Homeland was orgasmic, that show is a perfect example of how you build characters, get the audience to feel for them, and still have a great plot line going.- 2011 TV Thread
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 10:31 AM) I also wondered about this. It's this s*** that really holds the show back. It's like the writers are so geeked to write about Rick and his wife crying to each other that they forget about the "rules" of a zombie apocalypse and assume the audience will just gloss over it. "Feeding them chickens? Oh yeah, that makes sense. Make sure to break their legs too so they can't flop around. God knows in this show zombies move at a snails pace and NEVER grab at something quickly in an attempt to eat them." Zombies are fed by certain people in the graphic novel, it doesn't make sense to most people but it does to them, because it's still family to them (and Im not just talking about Hershel's group).- i am drunk
QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 07:48 AM) I'm not sure what the point in counting is. I stopped trying to count my drinks at about 19 unless we were beer staffing or something. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 08:34 AM) Agreed completely. Number is even way less from my end. After like 6-10 or at 2-3 hours (whichever comes first) I don't think anyone gives a s***, just wanna get f***ed up and/or get laid. Sure as well not gonna waste my time counting how many times my buddy hammered more whiskey than I did unless as you said.. some type of contest/bet. But hey... maybe I'm getting old. I definitely know people that exaggerate on numbers, I dont really get that. I dont really keep count during the night, its the recap the next morning that always cracks me up, especially all the drunken stories. I remembered most of what I drank from that night because it was a friend's 22nd birthday and he wanted 22 drinks that night, so the shots and stuff we were keeping track of. Unfortunately, I was a dumbass and started chugging Franzia, and surprise surprise I became even more stupid and decided to finish the half bag.- The Finer Things In Life
QUOTE (G&T @ Nov 21, 2011 -> 06:36 PM) Fair enough. If there is one thing from them I love it's the Indian Brown. In other news. I cracked a Lagunitas Our Own Bavarian-Style DoppelWeizen. Damn good for $5 a bomber. A bit sticky on the pallate but a real nice banana, apple and pear aroma. Syrupy caramel flavor that lacks any real depth. But the 9% abv is hidden (a stat I had forgotten before cracking on a Monday) and for the price it works well. Lagunitas, along with Southern Tier, are two breweries I just somehow overlooked for the past few years. I am happily rectifying that situation I've yet to be disappointed in any beer from those two breweries great stuff.- 2011 TV Thread
QUOTE (Felix @ Nov 21, 2011 -> 12:05 PM) It's soooooooooooooooooo boringgggggggggggggggggggggggg Read the graphic novel. It's way better and less of a time drain. Then again, I'm still watching Walking Dead every week and probably will regardless of the quality. So maybe I'm not the best guy to take advice from on that front. They are starting to get closer to the graphic novel, which is better for the show. At the same time though, they have really messed up some great plot lines by veering away from the graphic novel in the beginning. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 21, 2011 -> 12:11 PM) 4 episodes deep into Homeland. Awesome show. It really is fantastic, and so is Morena Baccarin (Ive wanted to see those tits since Firefly).- i am drunk
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 20, 2011 -> 02:04 PM) Are you sure you're alive? Let's just say my tolerance is through the roof, unfortunately. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 20, 2011 -> 03:41 PM) Question. You're always very precise with exactly what, and how much of it, you drank. And you often say you blacked out. How can both of those be true? Roommates tell me the stories the next day It's why I post the next day, not when I actually am drunk usually. I always forget to post in here after drinking, I usually go on facebook and cause trouble.- i am drunk
Pregamed with half a bag of franzia (no one else would slap the bag with me, so I just finished it), 5 shots of vodka and whiskey, and 2 beers. Then had a rum and coke and 3 more shots at the bar, yeaaaa I was blacked out.- 2011 TV Thread
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 19, 2011 -> 07:19 AM) you guys seem kind of surprised that "the book is better than the movie". That is the case 99 percent of the time, theatre of the mind makes everything better Well to be fair I had no idea how well a graphic novel would work, mainly because I never read comics as a kid.- Official 2011-2012 NCAA Football Thread

QUOTE (Felix @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 09:52 PM) It's really not even close which one is better. Plus, the graphic novel does some things that they could NEVER do on TV. It is well worth the $35 on amazon, plus you can sell it back for like $18. I was amazed by the detail in the comics too.- 2011 TV Thread
Ive been reading the Walking Dead graphic novel and I must say, it is a s*** load better than the tv show. A much better plot, character development, etc, the only thing it cant do is "scare" you as much.- i am drunk

QUOTE (danman31 @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 11:23 AM) Ha I did notice that. WTF was that about? That's some awful editing. The more I think about it, the more I think this is actually possible, but I still doubt it. There was a line last episode from Rick saying that Herschel wanted to handle the walkers. I think something else is going on. Maybe experiments? I thought about that, but what type of facilities would he have in a house like that which could actually conduct decent tests?- 2011 TV Thread
