QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 09:25 PM) Yes QUOTE(RME JICO @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 09:26 PM) Yes, this is what they would be right now if they were a Free Agent. alright thanks for the clarification. and the shortstop market is god awful if uribe brings back compensation.
-
Maybe this is dumb of me, but are these values the ones for declaring a player to be a type A free agent or is it just a ranking.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 08:38 PM) The Padres declined the '08 team option on Rob Mackowiak today so he is a free agent. Now he needs to come back home. I would like this move, as Mackowiak really could be a good corner outfielder subbing in for an aging JD and an unknown player or inexperienced Fields. Also, I would like to sign Jorge Julio, who may be able to come cheaper since he wasnt that great last year, but still is young enough and has the potential to be very good. Plug him in with a couple Japanese relievers and we would have many more options with hopefully a few panning out

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 08:28 PM) I still think bringing in a replacement for Uribe at SS with a big upgrade e.g Furcal, should probably be this team's #1 priority. I just can't find any good reasons to justify bringing him back for $5M when he's offensive numbers have decreased every season since he's been here, while his defense was also down last season as well (there's a stat from the Hardball Times which backs up this theory). Of course say trading a starter for a young SS and young CF who could step in straight away would probably be an ideal situation. But then your stuck with Floyd and Danks in your rotation. Unless you sign a guy like Kris Benson, who is probably going to cost alot without giving you that much, so really the FA market isnt good for filling the rotation and our prospects arent good enough to fill the spots all season long. Even guys like Egbert are starting to break down with the # of innings going up. Maybe a guy like Phillips will step up and become an okay 5th starter later in the season but the sox just wont win this division or wildcard with floyd and danks(this season).

Snickers or reeses. Anywho, I dressed up for school today, and chose the scariest costume i could think of, a cubs fan. But since I live in Ann Arbor only like 1 kid got it.

I just want to add that the big ten network is complete ass, i mean the camera angles suck, the announcers put you to sleep, its just plain pathetic. I was watching the Illini - Ball State game this past weekend and they kept the camera on Juice even though it was a CLEAR handoff and they forgot to switch cameras to the guy running with the ball. The whole program is just sloppy and that should be Comcasts main beef with it. -
I saw somewhere also that Crisp and/or Lugo could be headed to the Sox if the Red SOx sign ARod
-
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 05:11 PM) so you mean to tell me that Joe Crede for Jon Link and Michael Dubee is a flatout meaningless trade I didnt mean for the SOx to trade him for those type of players, maybe my perception of grades for prospects is off, my bad
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 04:04 PM) KW should be on the phone shopping Joe Crede about now. Seriously, I was just thinking about who replaces ARod? Betemit? He isnt all that great, and Crede would be an upgrade over him. COuld Crede land a B prospect from the Yanks? They could be desperate enough and may not want to put all their hopes in Lowell, who will be highly pursuited to resign with the BoSox. Maybe we fetch a couple C grade prospects. Crede for them could be that high risk/high reward type deal for them. They may have to give up a decent prospect but if he returns to form he could be a .280 25 hr with a ton of RBI in that lineup, plus he provides great defense for them and would bring a team first attitude. Plus they could afford an extension with him if he turns out to be good again.

QUOTE(Vance Law @ Oct 28, 2007 -> 12:45 PM) On defense, he is special, saving the Sox a lot of runs over the course of the year. With the bat, he's above average. Those 2 things together make for quite a good valuable player.....when he's healthy. Exactly, he aint much use when he aint playin

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Oct 28, 2007 -> 11:31 AM) There aren't many 3B folks out there better than Joe. He is in the upper tier. Interesting stat about the WS Rockies team. 16 of their players are home grown. We have a tendency to trade or let walk our organizations stars when they get to the point they can make some money. You don't build a stable winning team doing that and why would we just continue to trade or let walk away our best talent!? We get youth from another organization and continue to work through the learning curve. It seems KW may be changing that approach as we have seen lately, but Joe Crede needs to stay also. How many of thsoe homegrown players have reached free agency, or even arbitration. The Rockies are an awful example because they have such a young team. Their big $ guys are Helton, and what else? Matsui? There homegrown guys are really good, but they wont be able to keep all of them once they hit arb/FA and thats why they have guys like Ian Stewart waiting in the minors to fill in those voids. Thats what the Sox should replicate, the strong farm system to replace the expensive players.

QUOTE(Felix @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 11:04 PM) I don't agree in this case. I never liked Scrubs until this summer, when I saw some of the earlier episodes. I thought it was horrible, and maintain that opinion about the later seasons. The early seasons/episodes are enjoyable though, and gave me a reason to watch the show other than to bash Zach Braff. The later seasons episodes.. well.. I only really watched them to see Zach Braff get insulted.. I hate Zach Braff. Oh my god, how? Hes the best on the show, although McGinley, Flynn, and Faison are close
-
Wow, alot certainly happened in that episode. But i think it was a pretty good start. Beard-Face!

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 09:06 PM) So you ignore all his previous minor league results and base your opinion on one start against a team that had never faced him, without one of their best players in the line-up on a 45 degree day with the wind howling in? His minor league record is 32-49 with a 4.53 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP. And Floyd has a 6.30 ERA for his MLB career, what im trying to say is that floyd isnt a lock and Masset has some good pitches to work with. if he can pull it together he could win the starting job, but im also not saying that floyd wont win it, i jsut havent been impressed enough by him last season or in his career to give him the job or to expect him to run away in spring training with it.
-
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 03:43 PM) What gives you that idea? Masset's 4.57 ERA and 1.32 WHIP in 9 starts and 11 games at AAA (as opposed to Floyd's 3.12 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in 17 starts)? Well, I know it is only one start, but that game that Masset pitched vs. the Cubs showed his potential. Im also not saying that he will, but he has the stuff to beat out Floyd and if he has a strong spring training i just wouldnt be surprised if he won a rotational spot if we only return MB/Vaz/Danks/(Count or Garland). Floyd was still getting hit pretty hard in his "good" outings and still has a lot to prove. Basically what I am trying to say is that I dont think the Sox organization is going to give the 5th starter job to Floyd without a battle, and I believe taht some guys we have could really make a push for that opening
-
QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 10:14 AM) Not sure where this is coming from, certainly not from Williams himself. He beats himself up a lot more than any fans might. As for Danks, any scouting report I remember reading said #2 starter tops. He is young with room to grow as a pitcher, he showed some mound smarts. As you said though, running out of gas when he did is a huge concern. Yes, he will likely get stronger and more durable as he adapts to the major leagues. I share your concern about penciling him in for 175 effective innings. His mechanics, particularly the follow through, were inconsistent, which cause him to leave an inordinate amount of pitches up in the zone. I don't have the stats but I remember a bunch of HR's when he pitched. Like most young pitchers, he needs a better level of consistency and confidence. There were too many deep counts, again from memory. He is a hard worker so there's no concern about that. He wants to be better and he will compete. The White Sox badly need one of these young guys to develop into a consistent starter. Maybe more than one. Otherwise they've got more problems than they already have. It will be interesting to see what they do with Nick Masset, I feel he has proven he's not a reliever. I really wouldnt be surprised if Masset beat out Floyd for a spot in the rotation next year if Garland/Contreras is traded. Masset never got comfortable in the reliever role and has shown that he can still turn into an effective starter.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Oct 20, 2007 -> 05:57 PM) I don't care who our bullpen coach is. It's not going to make a difference one way or the other... But I'm not going to attach his name to the successes(?) of a few minor league guys. Was he in B'ham in '05? Otherwise I don't know how he gets any credit for Jenks. As for Wasserman, he was coming off consecutive seasons of holding righties to a .500 OPS. He's been the same pitcher for the last three seasons, the Sox just had to overlook his stuff and start to look at his success against righties. Also, I don't know if you want to give him credit for helping Broadway become one of the walkingest (yes, that's a word) pitchers in the minors. Again, I have no problem with the promotion. I just think it's silly to attach his name to the skills of the minor leaguers he's been lucky enough to have under his tutelage. I don't think he's even the best pitching coach in the Sox minor leagues. Perdew is the name you hear from pitchers within the organization when prompted. In the last two years, I've heard Eggy, Russell, and Harrell all rave about Perdew. Not that praise from players necessarily indicates great coaching (see: Walker, Greg), but Perdew has seen the career arcs of these players rise dramatically under his guidance. I was taking information from an article from chicagosports.com, where they said he taught Bobby how to throw his breaking pitch, and also has helped other younger guys, and im just saying it may make the transition easier for some of the younger pitchers who may find themselves on the team next year.
-
I like it in the fact that he's helped alot of our young pitchers who may be with us next year, Wasserman, Jenks, Broadway, etc.
-
I cant remember where I saw it, but somebody said taht Contreras might bring back baletien. That seems like a stretch though, but Seattle may be desperate enough for starting pitching, then we could either keep jon or trade him for a shortstop
-
QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Oct 15, 2007 -> 09:12 PM) Absolutely. Plus the Sox are looking for guys who can hit, guys who are natural hitters. Look for them to bring in at least two. Kendrick though, I don't think he'll be traded, although with this GM change anything is possible from the Angels. The Angels need a bat so it might be a long shot they trade a guy who can hit. Scott Merkin, if he is to be believed, came out today and said Richar will be the starter at 2B. OK then. We'll see about that, but they almost have to have a veteran to spell Richar and protect him from tough matchups. Loretta? I know he doesnt have a lot of power, and im not sure about his defense anymore, but man he just seems to rack up the batting average every year, I wouldnt mind seeing him in a platoon role.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 15, 2007 -> 09:10 PM) All the Stoneman stuff because moot. Geez, is this the offseason where all GM's step down? [insert KW joke]

Basically Heather Graham NEEDS to come back. Also I really wish Jon Ritter was still alive, I loved the "friend" like dad that he played.

QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 02:03 PM) Sorry, didn't mean to get anyone all excited but I saw this brief mention in an article on the Sox website. Scroll down toward the end, they discuss a 16 yr. old SS they signed out of the DR. They appear optimistic about this guy. http://whitesox.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?y...sp&c_id=cws Interesting, they say they wont rate him yet, but also hint that they are really high on him. Still he apparently has good defensive skills so maybe he can turn into something valuable, but those young guys are such crapshoots, you just dont know how they will grow into their body and mind.
