  1. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 03:57 PM) Is that like a day later or something? I thought it was always scheduled for 2 years from now, with this years version being the ground war movie (forget the name). Rogue One.
  2. Groce has lost the team and that is the most telling piece of the story. Just pathetic right now, the new AD has to fire him. Maybe someone like Bryce Drew would be interested.
  3. LOL posted on here as a rebuttal to Greg weeks ago that Trump acts like Hitler in some ways, Greg thinks that everyone is attacking him. Greg reads random blog about it, now it's gospel. At least you are now seeing why people should be scared of how Trump is gaining popularity.
  4. QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 01:38 PM) hitting............... i give up on you. typical i should have learned by now. His offense does not provide enough to make up for his lack of defense, and yes he is going to have to play defense. So, where does he play? He hasn't played an inning in the OF in the bigs, so you're saying 1b/3b/DH, which we have already. If we truly just needed a DH then maybe, but I would still hope for someone better. But we don't and so this argument makes no sense.
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 11:14 AM) Jeez, now you are just rubbing it in. Oh, to be in my 20s without any responsibility again. We're trying to take advantage while we can, I backpacked with a friend back in college for 5 weeks in Europe and now he's living in Lux with his gf so we knew we would get another trip out there. Technically 4th time out to Europe, only places I've or will see for a 2nd time are: Venice, Edinburgh (but that was just so I could go to the western isles for a whiskey tour) and Bruges My total list of Europe destinations will be: Scotland - Edinburgh, St. Andrews, Islay London Dublin Cork Amsterdam Rotterdam Brussels Bruges Ghent Paris Berlin Frankfurt Munich Krakow Vienna Prague Bucharest Zurich Athens Santorini Venice Rome Florence Naples - Capri, Positano Barcelona Madrid Marrakech Lisbon Luxembourg And there are still places I want to go to! I may change my next big trip to Asia though, would love to see some places out there as well. I figure I should see as much outside the US as I can now, then when I get tied down by family stuff later I'll explore more in the US.
  6. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 10:57 AM) Have you booked all of your hotels and train tickets/flights? It looks like you're going from Greece to Positano then on to Venice. I would highly suggest thinking about stopping in Tuscany for a night or two, even if it comes at the expense of Venice. We spent three weeks in Europe (Rome, Tuscany, Milan, Antibes, Paris, Iceland) this past summer and our time in Tuscany was a major highlight. It's so beautiful and relaxing, the wine is superb and we already want to go back for longer. Venice, from prior experience and from friends, is kind of a disappointment. Just a suggestion, but that trip sounds awesome. We wanted to go back this summer (Germany/Switzerland/Austria) but we just bought a house so I think we're just gonna do a quick trip to Ireland since it'll be much cheaper and we've never been there either yet. We'll be going from Santorini to Naples/Positano area in one day, early flight from Santorini to Athens, Athens to Rome, Rome to Naples. Kind of a pain but it's cheap still and we'll still land around 4pm in Naples. We added in Santorini as a recommendation from a friend, we only gave ourselves 2 nights there and I wish we took one of the 5 nights from Munich and put it there. We were going to go from Naples to Budapest but cut out Budapest since it was hard to get in/out of and placed an extra night in Positano and added Venice. Venice we felt we could do easily in 2 nights and we wanted to see more of Italy (I've been to Italy but it was in high school so wanted to re-see some places). Most of the group has seen Rome and Florence before as well so Venice made sense especially with a cheap/short flight into Munich for Oktoberfest.
  7. Finally booked my next trip to Europe in September: Frankfurt Bucharest Athens Santorini Positano area Venice Munich (Oktoberfest) Luxembourg 3 weeks total, would love to spend more time in some of the spots (only 2 nights on Santorini) but man I am so pumped for this.
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 09:40 AM) Also, if you live in the Chicago area, you can actually take a train directly to Glacier National Park. There are resorts in the park, and endless hiking opportunities and scenery. The Amtrak leaves Union Station (or Glenview) daily, you can get a cabin room for the overnight trip. Woah that's cool, I'll keep this one in mind for a future trip.
  9. Got my next trip to Europe planned for September: Bucharest Athens Santorini Almafi Coast area Venice Munich (Oktoberfest) Luxembourg (where a friend lives) I'm so excited for this.

  11. The Sox are taking a $2mil insurance plan to provide 1) depth 2) the backup of the failsafe if they can't land a better OFer. It is what it is.
  12. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 05:29 PM) NewsTalk 1400 WDWS ‏@wdws1400 3m3 minutes ago A source tells our newsroom that the rumor that Josh Whitman has been chosen as the next UI Athletic Director is not true. #Illini Wouldn't be shocked if they weren't ready to announce and had to "leak" that they didn't decide yet.
  13. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 05:09 PM) I'm good with it. Really high ceiling hire. Doesn't have the experience you would like but super intelligent people can often overcome experience and as a former athlete hopefully he will do well with the boosters. Plus, while his floor as an AD might be pretty low it isn't like the revenue sports can get that much worse at Illinois then they are right now. Only concern is his lack of hiring coaches experience, but many of the candidates were in that boat. I agree that his lack of seasoning is a concern, but if he is that smart/likeable then I'm happy.

    Job Hunt Thread

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 13, 2016 -> 06:55 PM) I did a lot of project management over the course of the last year as the lead on a very large project we undertook in our department. Props to all you project managers out there! You've got extraordinary amounts of patience, you are incredibly persistent and resilient, and a willingness to painstakingly insist that all the various t's are crossed and i's are dotted. I'm a "big picture" guy and so I struggle to manage all the details. Very pleased to have that hat removed from my head this year. A good project manager makes your work so much easier to maintain, any other type of PM makes your life a living hell.

    Job Hunt Thread

Nice to see some positives in this thread! I have a phone call setup with a recruiter for an IT Advisory position in my area, I haven't gone through these with a recruiter in the past, what should I expect? Is it just gauging my experience and interest in the job?
  16. I could make it to: -Ann Arbor, MI and my old family home -South Haven, MI where my family cottage is Those are the farthest I could get without any wrong turns.
  17. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 01:20 PM) I care. Hence the post. And "good discussion" is subjective...because these theories suck. If you want to discuss a theory and why it doesn't make sense, then go ahead. If you want to just diss the conversation going on in this thread, then just stay out.
  18. I don't think Snoke is human, it's entirely possible that the hologram is just a cover but people need to remember there are plenty of non-human life forms in this galaxy and many of them have had force powers. I actually kind of hope he is non-human so we can get away from this lineage crap.
  19. Sigh, where the hell are the Feds? Cut off their supplies, get these patrols controlled and start putting pressure on these assholes. The lack of response on this is incredibly frustrating.
  20. Movies that I've seen way too often just for the mind numbing comedy: Old School Hot Rod (I still quote this movie a ton) American Pie
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 07:16 AM) You know, maybe if we can get all the racist lunatic militia types all on this wildlife refuge, walk away and leave them there, never having to hear from them again... is that such a bad thing? I think I'd trade away one wildlife refuge if it meant all those idiots would voluntarily walk into a box and we wouldn't have to deal with them anywhere else. They kinda chose their own jail. As great as that sounds you know it would never be enough for those guys, once they get a small victory over the US on this and their populace continues to grow then they'll want to escalate because that's what these people do.
  22. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 10, 2016 -> 12:25 PM) More heavily armed crazy people show up at the refuge http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/ja...avily-armed-men Why didn't the US cutoff the refuge cabin? Just seems silly to let more people gather there and let supplies continue to flow in. Why wouldn't we just surround them and let them get hungry (or sober)?
  23. QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 10:04 AM) SO you are in the negotiating rooms now? There are published thoughts on Upton possibly on the brink of taking a 1 year deal. For multiple reasons posted on this board it could make perfect sense if they are finding a depressed market this time around--and that seems to be the case. Yes I am in the negotiation rooms, are you not?
  24. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 10:08 AM) The point? The point is that there are lots of options for teams looking for bats this year, but not much next year, or the following. It's just a matter of supply and demand. If a player is young enough, he can play for a bigger pay day, in the next two years, and in the meantime, $25 Million per year isn't exactly "chopped liver". Of course, there is a risk for the players, but then that's just the nature of the "game", they're playing. I'm always mindful of the advantage of having guys stay "hungry" and motivated. Such a scenario would certainly do that. LOL I get economics, but neither of those players are looking for those kinds of deals. Upton is either getting a megadeal or settling for a big 1 yr deal so he can maximize on the weak FA next year. Cespedes will want to capitalize on a career year, he'll take as much money as he possibly can. A 2 year deal makes no sense at age 30 for him.
