  1. I can't see how any station would break up the #1 MLB radio team in America. :rolly
  2. If I were KW I would be selling KGJ on the fact that the Cell might be the best HR hitting park in the majors. Stature wise he could become as big as Bonds as a member of the White Sox. The money is no object for the CWS because KGJ's stature alone in Chicago will pay for his salary.
  3. The other thing about Griffey Jr is that HE must accept a trade to the team claiming him off waivers. Even if the Reds don't pull him off of waivers, Griffey Jr can still refuse a trade & remain with the Reds. Now I know the White Sox were mentioned as not being on his short-list but it was also rumored he did agree to be traded to them earlier. So hopefully while KGJ is in town this week Kenny has the welcome wagon out. As for a NL team passing him up I wouldn't be too sure about that. If you're the Padres you can pick him up now & still have the option of trading him in the off-season to an AL team. Because of KGJ's stature that option is pretty much always there for a team seeking to get out from under his contract.
  4. There's no way the NYY$'s will claim Griffey Jr. None. The Boss was last quoted as saying Cub 1B Derrick Lee is the team's #1 priority after 2006. They intent to offer him no less than a $100M contract. When you think of the high priced CFers (Jones, Hunter, Cameron) the NYY$'s can likely get their hands on for 2006 it makes no sense for them to risk that kind of money on a player who's health mirrors that of Nomar. Pitching-wise the NYY$'s do not look strong enough to win the ALCS or the WS. Cashman knows this. He's not going to take such a risk in what appears to be an underperforming year for the team. As for BOS, or LAA they simply do not have the $ available to take on Griffey Jr's contract. A team out of the NLW is more likely to thwart the White Sox but because the White Sox have strength in the OF position in the minors they might be able to deal with that team.
  5. Despite their greatness in the regular season the A's under Beane are underperformed in the post-season. They have on more than one occasion tanked earlier & risen like a Pheonix come June. You have to believe that's the fundamental nature of the club for the A's to continue their success despite the great turnover on the team. But those hot teams always seem to struggle in the post-season. If you had to ask why it's probably fatigue. It takes a lot out of any team to erase 15 gms under .500 to compete for the division. They are still facing tremendous pressure for both the ALW & the ALWC. By the time they get to the post-season they may have little left in the tank. The White Sox on the other hand have the luxury of a 13 gm lead built on the best record in baseball since April. Ozzie's probably rested his players more than any other manager in baseball. They should have plenty left in the tank & a bat like Griffey Jr would be like a high octane boost.
  6. Frank himself had already come to that conclusion when he wasn't able to play in April. He was already open to the probability of signing a new contract with the White Sox in lieu of his injuries. Even if his career is over the White Sox should offer Frank a job in the front office like the O's did with Ripken.
  7. I think they will make a decision before the Sep 1st midnight deadline. If they can't get a bat to fill Frank's spot they will certainly bring someone up before that deadline to make him eligible for the post-season roster.
  8. What is the most shocking is the fact that Emma is a pre-school assistant. If she thinks it's ok to bash a cat with a bat to put it out of it's misery I can only imagine what she's teaching to the kiddies. The proper response would have been to call the authorities & tell them a STRAY cat got caught in the door & you don't know what to do. The responsibility would then shift to the state. If given the choice between the cat having a chance to live & putting it out of it's misery it's better to choose life. Cat's & animals in general have a much greater tolerance for pain than we do.
  9. The links to Darwinism & mass-murder: World's worst mass-murderer of Jews: Adolf Hitler (1889–1945). Eugenic's was founded by Charles Darwin's cousin, Francis Galton gave birth to the idea of breeding a superior race by dividing the human race into the "fit" & "unfit". Hitler took the work that was general in description & seduced the German people into believing they were the "master" race & all others were "unfit". Unfit became unworthy & unworthy became targeted for extermination. All total it is said the Nazi's are responsible for murdering 20 million, including 6 million Jews. Leon Trotsky (1879–1940) quote: “Darwin stood for me like a mightly doorkeeper at the entrance to the temple of the universe.” Prior to his rise to power Catholicism was wide-spread in the Russian empire. But having read Origin of Species, Trotsky was convinced there was no room for both Darwinism & God in the Russian empire. He paved the way for Stalin by waging war against Christians in Russia. He was intent on ridding Russia of religion. World's worst mass-murderer ever: Joseph Stalin (1879–1953), while studying at Tiflis Theological Seminary at the age of 19 he started to read Charles Darwin & became an atheist. http://www.hawaii.edu/powerkills/COM.ART.HTM. It is said he is responsible for killing 43 million including 8 million in born of the Ukraine. The Soviet Union murdered 61 million. Communist regimes throughout history murdered 110 million including 2 million Cambodians. In comparison 38 million have died in battle or as casualties of war in all international wars. Famine & disease under Communist regimes has claimed 55 million.

Despite their acquittal of all charges new commissioner Landis bans the 8 players implicated for life. The team was on pace to win the World Series but instead finished 2nd with minor-leaguers making up most of the roster. 1927 -Promising CF Johnny Mostil tries to commit suicide. 1938- Promising pitcher Monty Stratton (30-14) loses a leg to a hunting accident. 1955- Star pitcher Dick Donovan (13-4) loses an appendix & the Sox finish five out. 1959- Sox lose the WS to the LAD in 6 games. The last time they won at home in the post. 1963- Sox trade Luis Aparicio. 1968- The Sox begin a move to pay TV. Losing the first 10 gms doesn't help. 1969- Strong rumors of the WhiteSox moving to Milwaukee doom the season. 1969- ALROY leader Carlos May lost for the season in an accident in Army training. 1975- Strong rumors of the WhiteSox moving to Seattle doom the season. 1979- Disco demolition night leads to forfeiture of game 2 of a doubleheader. 1980- Strong rumors of the WhiteSox moving to Denver doom the season. 1980- The Reinsdorf era begins & the Sox move off broadcast TV. 12. I want to further add that the same thing is happening today in the Muslim world. The militants want the clerics to bless their actions. When that doesn't happen the cleric's life & livelihood is threatened. Do you honestly believe men educated at Harvard are waging this war because of their belief in God? They are waging the war for power. Their way of life represents centralized power in their hands. Power that extends beyond borders & cultures. With or without God they will continue to wage that war. Those that stand in their way including clerics will be crushed.

I think our state department should be able to tell the difference between a family from Ireland visiting Disneyworld & a group of young male adults with Saudi passports.
  14. That's why I will continue to for you. You should try expanding your knowledge beyond the text book. Go in depth in a subject for once in your life. You will be made better for it. The role of religion in the Crusades & other era's of imperialism in the world was simply to provide a moral justification for pillaging. Pillaging would have occured regardless. Millions of martyrs died for their faith in the most gruesome ways imaginable from the dawn of organized religion to the emergence of Roman Catholicism. There was no religious cause behind their death. Just the act of dictatorship & tyranny that saw them as a threat to power. With the emergence of the RC dictators had to at least provide a justification that could be "blessed" by the Church before expanding their empire. The Church represented a buffer from the cruelty of the past. A road to civilization thru God. Without the Church's role many more millions would have died. As that buffer it was inevitable that the Church would be corrupted by men in power. They wanted the Church to be a rubber stamp for their actions & when members of the Church stood up against that they too became martyrs of their faith. Not all who served the Church were willing to die for their faith or to give up their livelihood so they became that rubber stamp. In doing so they provided a moral justification for the ruler's desires. Religion is naturally good. It is man who corrupts it. It is no different than politics in that regards. ********************************************* A typo is not indicative of a person's intelligence but rather the time s/he can devote to proofing posts on a sport's message board. I write very fast & assume that the level of literacy at SOXTALK is sufficient to understand a post despite typo's or grammatical errors. It's why I think it is spineless, weak, & petty to use such things in an argumentative context in a post. Another reason why I continue to for you.

    The Island

The B-movie The Island touches upon many issues related to human cloning. I call it a B-movie because the dialogue was awkward, the chemistry was weak, & the ending was a hollywood fairy-tale. The best performance in the film comes from the boiler room guy so that doesn't say much for the lead actors. But putting the movie aside, they did touch upon the important issues. Human cloning is inevitable because whether it is legal or illegally the demand will be great. Vanity-wise we already have an estimated 30 million people in America willing to break the law to get high. So you figure probably 60 million would be willing to break the law to stay younger &/or live longer. Security-wise what a nightmare. Even if it takes 3 yrs to grow a full adult clone. Imagine a 5 star general getting pinched by a hot babe so she can get a sample. Three years later the enemy has themselves a tool to break any security measure associated with a physical characteristic. Passwords & badges can be hacked. That's the reason security is moving to physical characteristics to begin with. Cloning means the bad guys take the lead until nano-machines arrive. Of course if in the middle of all this medical science develops what I will call "organ" interfaces then the vanity-wise selling point won't need clones. Healthy people will prove a good supply.
  17. You can go to the findlaw.com site to read his previous decisions as a judge. That is more likely to define what he will be like on the USSC than anything else. The guy's decisions are so economically hard-core conservative that even I am scared by this guy. But as you have pointed out the fact that he let $$$ rule over his principles early in his career he is more likely to be confirmed. Mark my words, this guy will jump all over the first case that involves affirmative action. Mark my words.

The scary thing is you know I could come up with numbers But your point is obvious so it would be better for me to reply along that parameters. With respect to the numbers as you know it's been estimated that 9/11 cost the American economy as much as 1/2 a trillion in GDP. That cost continues to accumulate because the airline industry & associated vacation/resort industry has yet to return to it's pre 9/11 levels. So even though the probability of any one being a terrorist is so small that it would be considered insignificant or negligible the consequences of prevention can be very significant. To the best of my knowledge "home grown" terrorists have always been strong proponents of freedom. Their acts have been based on their perception that government has curtailed too much of their freedom. Al-Queda is the opposite. They oppose freedom. They are driven by the belief their way of life is the best way & all should be forced to follow it. Realistically speaking, the government will always have limited resources to combat terrorism. Therefore the priority focus should be profiling those who best identify with the principle philosophy of Al-Queda. Home grown terrorism is a lower priority. Economically speaking, the Mc Veigh's bombing of the FBI bldg didn't do squat to the economy. Nor did the bombing of the USS Cole, or terrorist actions of the past. So it makes no sense to devote major resources to their prevention. Which terrorist group is more likely to cost the US economy another 1/2 trillion in GDP over the next 10 yrs? A disciple of Nichols or a disciple of OBL? How you answer that question should determine your focus on prevention.
  19. Dumb & stupid. The sadest thing is you are clueless as to why. :rolly What all of your posts pertaining to religion strongly suggest though is that you have little to no tolerance for those of us who are registered members of a faith. All 5 billion+ of us in this world. Is it unreasonable to call you a hate-monger? Is it unreasonable to suggest that if you had the power to eliminate those of us who belong to a faith you would use it? I'll God blesses you with wisdom to study history from an impartial perspective.
  20. No. I hate the "keeping up with the Jones'" philosophy of America that rules Hollywood, Wall Street, & the corporate board rooms of America. But I do recognize the $$$ driven world we live in. I think the gay marriage question was a good sign of where tolerance & acceptance stand on the issue. The research happening all over the world today is not about people not liking gays. It's about $$$. Pure & simple. We have birth control because people want to enjoy sex without the burden of child birth & raising children. The sales are in the billions even though such methods are not 100% reliable. As long as their is demand supply is inevitable. Do you really think there won't be demand for gay control? Apparently some bean counters have decided it will be huge. That would be my guess as to why billions are being spent on the research. There is a B-grade movie this summer that illustrates our future. The media seems to want to ignore what is inevitable. Since when did something need to be legal to appeal to our vanity? The Island touches upon all the reasons why human cloning is inevitable. It's inevitable because the more a person wants to live longer & look younger the more they are willing to pay any price to get there. It's inevitable because cloning represents a threat to security for which there is no solution.
  21. I disagree. If you take the time to discuss the issue with foreigners you'll learn it's tolerated as a freak-show more than anything else. You can support that with how gays are portrayed in the films they produce. With respect to crooked teeth, again I disagree. Maybe your neighborhood is an exception but I know many kids who have been ridiculed for having crooked teeth. Most of them eventually get them straightened out with braces but some parents can't afford that & their kids continue to face ridicule. What's even worse is that I know of kids that had braces & upon their return from their travels overseas make fun of the kids they see there with obvious crooked teeth. With respect to sex let's look at the question of "mojo". Ten years ago it was both reasonable & acceptable for people to have low times for their mojo. Stress, lack of energy, & other psychological factors were readily accepted as reasons for not being in the mood. Today Viagra has become such a big part of our society that such reasons are becoming less acceptable & tolerated. There are even ads suggesting that if you are not on something your a loser. That's coming from the same creative industry where many gays work. The almighty $$$ trumps everything else. It's sad. It really is. The history of America has shown that the more wide-spride prevention becomes the less that human characterstic is tolerated. Generations ago it was acne, today it's "not being in the mood", tomorrow it will be hormones. It's definitely America's future. It's a part of our culture that is endoctrinated in the "keeping up with the Jones'" philosophy of American life. It's evident in our media, & our entertainment. Will it become the entire world's future? Unfortunately yes. The media conglomerates of America are the media conglomerates of the world.
  22. Quote: "Stop stealing our oil and wealth and stop supporting corrupt rulers." The bad guys are getting smarter in their rhetoric. Painting Haliburton as a group of pirates pillaging your lands is an effective means for recruitment. LCR's quote on religion is dumber than a box of rocks. The best analogy to religion is nuclear power. It's benefit to mankind far outweighs it's destructive capability. Both can leave a wake of horrific violence in their path when used for evil/greedy purposes. But absent of man's evil intentions both are naturally good.
