QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 05:04 PM) I really dont think much of Brian Billick.... he is an offensive coach and how good has baltimore been offensively since he has been there? Dont really give him 2 much credit for that defense..... Since being fired on October 17, the Ravens have scored 24 points or more in every game except their game last week against Cincinnati. I'd say that's pretty solid. And since he's been in Baltimore, the defense has been ridiculously good. Why would you not give him credit for the defense? I'm sure he's had help constructing it, as pretty much every coach in the NFL does get help. Have you ever bothered to look at numbers? McNair's had a completion percentage of over 60% in 7 straight seasons, and has had 5 years in his career when he was not a 10+ game winner(his first two years in Tennessee, his last two years in Tennessee, and then 1 year in between it all where they went 7-9). Career record of 86-60(taking out 3 wins and 5 losses from the 2004 season when he played 8 games)...that's a hell of a lot more than Jim Miller can say. His stats don't look like much, but he is a winning QB, and I'll take that over Jim Miller's one decent year.

2006 White Sox Catch-All Thread

QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 03:30 PM) no way, Jerry Owens is way cooler than Tavares because he used to play football. If this is a cool person debate, either Podsednik or Thome wins. Podsednik, because he is railing a former centerfold, or Thome, because he is Jim Thome. -
QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 05:31 PM) But if you read the rest of the story, it says Atlanta will get Soriano. But wait, they already DID get Soriano. Does that mean that this trade is off? They haven't quite gotten Soriano yet. That deal might not happen, and in reality, really probably shouldnt. EDIT: I look like an idiot because I give too much credit to Bavasi. Supposedly, it is a done deal. I figured with the Braves likely bringing Gonzalez in, the deal probably wouldn't go down, but this is just too much of a steal for Atlanta to turn down.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 02:28 PM) I don't think Piazza is that good of a player anymore. I still don't get why so many teams gush all over him. Than again this is coming from the one person in the world that doens't feel he's a hall of famer (mainly because I refuse to call him a catcher since he was so ungodly awful defensively). Funny, because I think he'd be a HoFer if he retired right now, regardless of his position on the field. 30+ homers in 9 of 10 years from 1993 to 2002, .300+ BA in 9 straight years from 1993 to 2001, .900+ OPS in 10 straight years, along with a .309 career average, .930 career OPS, and 419 homers. By the end of his career, his average will probably be closer to .300, if not in the .290 range, with his OPS hovering right around .900, but he'll probably have 450-475 career homers too, making him a good hitter throughout his career, and one of the best for a stretch of 10 years. If that's not HoF material, then you can make arguments against many others too, including Frank Thomas.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 08:42 AM) Baltimore reminds me of the 2001 Bears. Everytime I watch them I wonder how they manage to win anything. They're good but not great. I expect San Diego to win the AFC. The Bears to win the AFC. The Cowboys? Ha. So are you comparing Steve McNair to Jim Miller, and Brian Billick to Dick Jauron? The defenses are similar, but those are the two key seperating differences in my mind.

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 03:02 PM) Houston is an interesting trade partner, but I would rather have Troy Patton than Hirsch. Patton's more of a high upside guy. Maybe Burke+Patton for Freddy. That's why KW's not interested in him at all. Every Sox fan should know by now that KW doesn't trade vital and very valuable pieces for high upside guys, which is why it should be no surprise at all that Hirsh interests the Sox quite a bit. I'd like Hirsh very much.

2006 White Sox Catch-All Thread
witesoxfan replied to greasywheels121's topic in 2006 Season in Review
Willy Taveras may be one of the few players in baseball who is worse than Podsednik offensively. He's a 4th OFer who has name recognition because of a big 2005 postseason, specifically the World Series. Yuck. F'ing pass in a second. The Sox have their own Taveras in the form of Jerry Owens. -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 09:46 PM) The last 5 years, J.D. Drew has averaged 119.6 games per year. Trot Nixon has averaged 114. Since the start of 1999, J.D. Drew has averaged 118.25 games per year. That's over 9 seasons. And he's signing this deal while he's 31. $14 million a year for 3/4 of a season on average every year. And he's played 145 games in 2 of the past 3 years, with his one major injury being a broken hand he received while being hit on the hand by a pitch. He's proven to be a pretty healthy player since getting out of St. Louis. Thus, I'd imagine it will be closer to $14 million for around a full season and a .400 OBP. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 01:09 AM) This will be looked at as an epically bad contract in a couple years, although it won't be the only one the Red Sox have on their hands. Stupid. So would you rather have Matthews for $10 mill, Pierre for $9 mill, Soriano for $17 mill, or Drew for $14 mill? I really don't think this deal will be all that bad. He's pretty much proven to be healthy, and if plate discipline usually doesn't degrade by age 36. I imagine he'll still be around an .850-.900 OPS player by the end of his contract.

Williams working on extension for Buehrle/Garcia
witesoxfan replied to Gene Honda Civic's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(bigruss22 @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 10:04 PM) We should get more than this in return...Rowand was my hero with his defense and attitude, but I cringed every time he whiffed horribly (116 times) during that season and saw his offensive production take a huge dip, and what we need is bullpen depth, a upgrade at leadoff or shortstop, and some more talent in the farm system, this trade seems like a waste of an oppurtunity to address our bigger needs SS likely will be upgraded with progression to the means. Otherwise, I completely agree. -
QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 02:02 AM) There is no doubt in my mind that Anderson will be packing his bags for somewhere else like Florida or Texas. Maybe he returns to AAA to show he can hit, but if there is a trade that interests KW, he is gone. He would just devalue his attractiveness to other general managers if he stayed on the Sox as a 4th outfielder. Many of us have expressed the opinion that he wasn't given a chance to establish any sort of rhythm this year. He may make another team very happy. The Sox will have a new center fielder in 2007 and I think that is what's best for both the Sox and Anderson. Fine, if it's best for the Sox, let him be an outstanding defender off the bench. Let his bat develop slowly. But I'll just say, if Anderson is traded (in a package, because there is no chance he's dealt in a 1-for-1 deal), the Sox better be getting a hell of a player back in return. I still think Anderson is going to be Torii Hunter deux.

Rumor:Garcia to Philles for Arow + Madson/Floyd
witesoxfan replied to joeynach's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(U can putitontheboarrrrd...YES @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 03:42 AM) If we could get Rowand for next to nothing, great. Otherwise.. why? Is his defensive shortcomings and megar bat really that much more impressive than a guy, who if he can manage to play 5 or 6 games in a row w/o getting yanked next year has already shown he has more talent and ability than Arow will ever have? I mean give Anderson a break. Rowand is not just a step down, hes potentially a BIG step down if and when Brian can put some consistency in his swing. I'm of the opinion that Anderson will probably have a better year, both offensively and defensively, than Rowand. But don't try to say that Rowand's bad defensively though. He's still an upper echelon defender in CF. Regarding the actual rumor itself, I would make Garcia for Rowand and Madson in any other year but this year. It favors the White Sox, but KW not jumping on that deal right away leaves me quite optimistic not only about the type of package he is looking for, but about the type of package he will get. (and I still wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the deal leaves both those who want minor league talent up the wazoo and those who want outstanding major league talent slightly disappointed, though overall happy with the deal) -
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 01:02 AM) Whoever goes to the Super Bowl from the NFC is going to get ROLLED by the AFC winner. Although it's interesting, I think the AFC Title game will end up being Indy vs. San Diego. Talk about the irresistable force meets the immoveable object, you'd have 2 of the biggest chokers in the history of big football games going head to head in Peyton Manning and Marty Schottenheimer. I don't see either lasting past divisional play. Baltimore-New England I could see San Diego making it...I really would be surprised if the Colts won a game.

It's probably been posted elsewhere, but whatever. Absolutely fantastic to hear that Jon Lester is cancer free. Easily the best news of the offseason

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 12:35 PM) Lol I see 0 similarities between him and Tom Brady .. so I will call you crazy. Also I wouldnt count on him for the next 5-10 years just yet. He does seem like the best QB since Aikman but is that really saying much? They both replaced Drew Bledsoe winnar

I was more excited to see the cartoon pull her panties down than to see Britany exposed. Is that wrong?

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 01:51 AM) I HOPE we trade Buehrle. He has more value, and I trust Freddy to be a solid pitcher in the long run more than I do Mark. The Buehrle love around here often leads to the Freddy hate, imo. Plus, Mark is just going to sign with his Cardinals (at long last!) after this season anyways, regardless of the rumors we are negotiating a contract with him right now. So we go into 2007 with a starting rotation full of RHPs with the likes of Mauer, Morneau, Guillen, Sizemore, Martinez, Hafner, Teahen, and (likely) Gordon in the division? riiiiiiiiiiiiiight And, believe it or not, it is possible to show two allegiances to two teams within the same sport.

QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 04:55 PM) Thats how the media is. Every week they go to new extremes andtry to make new sexy picks for everyone to salivate over. When Romo finally comes back to Earth it will be funny listening to what ESPN says then. Look at Rex in the beginning of the year. Romo also has a few more weapons than Grossman does. not doubting he'll come down, but when he does, I doubt it's nearly as hard as Grossman's fall.

Scott Podsednik Re-Signs with White Sox
witesoxfan replied to Colorado Sox Fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 12:42 AM) I have just a few more fun Scott Podsednik stats before I call it a night. Out of all the players in major league baseball last season who had atleast 465 ABs and 12 SB (35 players) only 3 had a lower OBP than Scott Podsednik's .330 (B. Phillips, J. Barfield, Pr. Wilson.) Out of all the players in major league baseball last season who had atleast 465 ABs and 12 SB (35 players) only one player had a lower SB% than Scott Podsednik's 67.8% (T. Hunter.) Out of all the players in major league baseball last season who had atleast 465 ABs and 9 SB (54 players) only one player had a lower batting average than Scott Podsednik's .261 (A. Everett.) Out of all the players in major league baseball last season who had atleast 465 ABs and 9 SB (54 players) only two player had less total bases than Scott Podsednik's 185 (A. Everett, W. Taveras.) There's more but I'll end it right there. What's funny is that every one of those others provide some value to their clubs. Phillips and Barfield are both 2Bman (Phillips could be a SS), and Wilson mashes. Hunter's solid defensively, though not nearly as good as he's been in the past, and he too had a pretty solid year at the plate. Everett is a GG caliber SS, and Taveras, as far as I figure, has solid range in CF and a pretty solid arm out there. Podsednik is a below average defensive LFer with mediocre stealing ability who can't hit well. I don't really know if there's any other way around it. I just hope beyond hope that KW has something up his sleeve, because I'd hate another year of Podsednik -

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 12:04 AM) He did take the extension, though, after the worst season of his life up until now. Unless I'm horribly mistaken. According to mlb4u, you'd be absolutely correct Suggesting he signed his contract after 2003, when he had a 4.14 ERA and 1.35 WHIP, due in large part by his horrendous May of that season -

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 11:21 PM) Interesting. Could be a nice surprise. However, Any possibility they are working on an extension to make them more attractive? I don't recall the last time a veteran had his contract extended multiple years, and was then traded. It could also be a ploy by KW to try and get teams into thinking he won't trade one of them. I can only hope. -
QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 07:45 PM) Anyone want to make $25 bucks? I once asked a girl that. The result was not pretty. As for your paper...so long as I get it upfront, you will get a paper. It will likely have nothing to do with a bank or anything regarding a bank at all, but you'll get your paper.

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 03:26 PM) One of those three does not belong with the others. Most likely Freddy, because he won't be in a White Sox uniform next season.
