QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 12:22 AM) Perhaps apologizing for his s***ty performances with New York? He hit .251 in his second season with New York, and he hit .208 in his second, and was plagued by that worm or whatever it was that he had.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 09:54 AM) Now this is exactly what has been missing from a lot of people lately, and that is the enjoyment and love of the game. So many people have been hung up on the results, that they forget to enjoy the moment. Baseball is a 3 hour vacation from the rigors and stresses of life. To be able to experience the love of the game is truely a blessing. The people of New Orleans know this all too well. Except their's was a football game...and all these athletes stepping out of their way to visit these people.

Pick your f***in' poison in that series. I guess the playoff birth is what matters most, so go Oakland...

QUOTE(tony72 @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 09:02 PM) Thanks - I needed a thread like this.. And we only need 8 more wins to have 95...95 will put any team in the playoffs.. Shh...do not let the 1999 Reds hear you say that.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 02:00 PM) Tex, you had me until I saw #35 in there. Unless the Sox trade for someone and let them use #35 (which I'd throw up at) than having Frank in the cleanup spot is not an option. That means this team basically did the status quo and made no changes on offense. Its obvious that ever year you try to upgrade and the offense needs an upgrade. Why is Thomas not an upgrade? When he played for just a little bit this year, it was a huge lift for the team offensively. He hit about the lowest average wise you possibly can, yet still put up an OPS that would either be leading the team or would be second on the team to PK. If he puts up a .240 season, that could be a .950 OPS campaign. He'd be a little rusty, for sure, due to barely having played the past 2 years...but if he is truly, 100% healthy, he is still one of the best power hitters in the league, and will still slug the hell out of the ball. You bring him back to a fairly incentive laden deal(perhaps a Juan Gonzalez deal, where if he only has one at bat for you, you aren't screwed) and there is very little risk at all, and all the reward in the world. JMHO, but I think it would be worth it...just because he can only DH does not mean he's not a valuable player.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 11, 2005 -> 11:29 PM) It's about respecting all the players. How Oz handles el duque is how the rest of the team would expect to be treated. Esprit de corps and all that jazz. If you are constantly failing, you will be replaced. Is that now how the players should view it?

And this is why I love you guys

I just remember walking into 2nd period history class as an 8th grader, when our teacher said something along the lines of "Oh my God." We watched it the entire period, and I was just frozen in complete shock. I also recall another man who was for some reason in the class saying something along the lines of "It's gonna fall...all that fire will melt the metal, and it will just collapse." Pretty much one of the scariest things I've ever witnessed. IIRC, the White Sox were also in New York at the time...I believe I read an article somewhere about how some of the Sox players witnessed it happen, and I also believe I've heard that they were going to visit it that day.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 11, 2005 -> 10:40 PM) And the Bills D looks as good as ever. Losman did what he has to do all season long, just manage the game, don't have to win it. 8 different targets caught passes for him as well today. But I really expected more out of the Texans today. They have to start winning soon, otherwise Don Capers might go on the hot seat. Kinda reminds you of good Pittsburgh teams a little bit, doesn't it? Now why would that be? -
'Cuse baby. I know they aren't a top college team...but I have always wanted them to do well, so I guess by nature that makes me as casual a 'Cuse fan as you will find.

QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Sep 11, 2005 -> 10:28 PM) ^^^^^ After watching the Pack today however, I have come to the conclusion that the Pack are in a bit of a rebuilding mode. Ted Thompson is clearing a ton of cap room to make some changes next year. I have a feeling this year was a wash for Ted and he plans to remodel this team next season and try to re-load for a new era. Hopefully it is as good as the Pack of the 90's I personally kind of doubt it with a Tedford QB. But ya, the Bills...man, am I looking forward to this year. Could be a big one in the right direction. And then Jason Peters caught a touchdown pass...the same Jason Peters that weighs 328 pounds...w00t -
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 10, 2005 -> 10:10 PM) I believe it's 8 now. f*** their magic number for now though. Beat the s*** out of Cleveland, Minny. For 1 game atleast. Please.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 11, 2005 -> 12:13 AM) If this lead dips to four games or five soon we are gonna hear the 69 Cubs talk over and over again. The problem, of course, with that comparison is that there was no such thing as a Wild Card in 1969. The White Sox are 8 games up on New York for the Wild Card, if you wish to look at it that way.

Minnesota, in 2002, was 15-14 in September(a .500 Pyth W-L), and were 14-10 in September(played way over their heads, being outscored in September by their opponents) This is a team that won the ALDS against probably one of the best second half teams in the past 10 years(42-12 in August and September combined). They ended up losing to the Angels in the ALCS, but that Angels team was just ridiculously hot. This White Sox team has better pitching up and down than that Minnesota team had, to go along with a better offense. We'll be fine.

Saints consider two cities or season on road

QUOTE(knightni @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 01:48 PM) I could see this bringing the Saints a new retractable roof stadium north of New Orleans, out of the levy-flooded area. They can still be the New Orleans Saints and not have the stadium in New Orleans. Ala the New York Jets and Giants -
This lookin like a sweet sports year!

White Sox World Series Champs Bills Super Bowl Champs That's it. -
Arguments could be made for PK, Pods, Garland, Buehrle, Contreras, Hermanson, or, the sleeper and unnoticed pick, AJP. I say all of them.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 6, 2005 -> 10:28 PM) I'm still pissed we got rid of Shingo for Jenks. No way Shingo would have allowed 3 runs at Boston yesterday. Dude, what the hell is wrong with you? Jenks is like 3 times the pitcher Shingo is. What can I say, I just wanted to get in on the fun

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Sep 10, 2005 -> 01:39 AM) he will be in the top 5 who is better? Colon maybe but his ERA isn't as good. Buehrle has the best ERA in the AL. Santana to little to late. Rivera's team probably won't see the playoffs. Halladay isn't gonna qualify. So you tell me how he stays out of the top 5. Bartolo Colon, Jon Garland, Mariano Rivera, Johan Santana. All have been better than Buehrle...Colon and Garland all around, Rivera having an outstanding year all around, and Santana being the ONLY reason Minnesota even has a chance in hell at the playoffs. That puts Buehrle at exactly 5. Include the best pitcher on the Wild Card team statistically, or the one who has had the best second half(looking at Sabathia, Lee, RJ, Mussina, Zito) and that knocks Buehrle right the hell out of there. Hell, perhaps there is a chance Hermanson/Nathan/KRod/Street could knock him out of the top 5 too. Buehrle's not a lock to make the top 5, and probably won't...and there's no guarantee he'll be top 8 either.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 01:51 PM) Uribe is in his first full year at shortstop...and he had a fairly rough start there this year with a bunch of errors early. He's settling down more with time (although I think he had an E last night didn't he?) Technically, it is Juan's second full season at SS, first with Chicago. Juan played in 155 games at SS in 2002 with Colorado.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 01:59 PM) I also think part of it has to do with a higher quality of pitchers coming in. It all seems to go in cycles and right now you can definatley see a lot more young pitchers coming up than young hitters (although Pujols and Cabrerra are awesome young hitters). But you got a lot more Jake Peavy's, Jon Garland's, Dontrell Willis, Carlos Zambrono's, etc. Agreed completely. Though the pitchers could be pitching better because it is post-steroid. You gotta figure there is some kind of comfort in a pitcher's mind when he knows that no one is juicing and can hit any pitch out at any time.
