  1. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 5, 2005 -> 09:29 PM) where wouldnt he start (just off the top of my head)? - Cantu in Tampa - Roberts in Baltimore - Belliard in Cleveland - Iguchi in Chicago - Polanco in Detroit - Soriano in Texas - Ellis in Oakland - Kent in LA - Utley in Philly - Walker in Chicago - Castillo in Florida - Giles in Atlanta - Reyes in New York add to the list if you'd like, but i have him starting on about half the teams in the major leagues, which to me is "many." Yankees - Robinson Cano, .297, .775 OPS for a rookie isn't bad Blue Jays - Hudson, .270 .725 or so, but probably the best defensive 2Bman starting in the AL Twins - Cuddyer(should be their 2Bman, but due to injuries, was forced to play 3B) KC traded him, so you can't really count them Seattle - Lopez and Betancourt...considering the situation they are in, that's what they should do Anaheim - Kennedy is about the same Graff Giants - Durham hit .290 and a .356 OBP, along with a .785 OPS is solid as hell Dbacks - Counsell/Cintron - Counsell only hit .256, but a .350 OBP...Cintron also hit .292 or so with a mediocre OPS Padres - Mark Loretta? Hit .335 last year? .865 OPS? Rockies - Luis Gonzalez hit .292 and a .753 OPS, which is also very solid Cards - Grudzielanek hit .294 with a .741 OPS...again, solid Astros - Biggio was the 2Bman all year for the most part...hit .264 with 26 homers and a .794 OPS. I'd take that over Graffanino too Reds - Ryan Freel put up .271, a .372 OBP, along with a .743 OPS...36 steals is decent too Brewers - Considering how young he is, and considering that he hit .239, a .727 OPS is pretty damn solid. Pirates - Sanchez, Wigginton, Hill...this is perhaps one team that could have, but the Pirates are similar to Seattle in that you really don't want a journeyman utility infielder starting at 2B for you Washington - Jose Vidro...no explanation needed Need I mention that this has been, by far, the best year of Graffanino's career. Graffanino would start in very few places...and if he's starting anywhere next year, I'll be surprised as hell.
  2. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 5, 2005 -> 09:14 PM) Far different circumstances, although the media might spin it as such. Error or not, he wouldnt be back next year. He's a starting second baseman on many teams in this league, whether you think so or not, but the Red Sox have a plethora of options in the infield next season. Tony G a starting 2Bman on many teams? You have got to be f***ing kidding me. This guy was picked up by the White Sox and used as a utility IF because he COULDN'T start. Tony Graffanino is a starter on 2 teams...KC and Boston. Quit drinking the Red Sox kool-aid and look at things objectively.
  3. Didn't know where to post it, so I'll put it here. This pic is seriously = 1,000 words
  4. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 5, 2005 -> 08:00 PM) Iguchi got a curtain call. As he should have
  5. QUOTE(greg775 @ Oct 4, 2005 -> 09:11 PM) Maybe Pods should bunt but I'd just take the same approach as today. Bunt some, hit some, beat the Bosox. Wells isn't nearly as erratic as Clement is. In fact, they are complete opposites in pitching styles. Clement depends on power pitching, getting the K, getting groundouts while struggling with control, while Wells depends on being crafty, and finding ways to get guys out period, without walking anybody. That being said...they, like any pitcher, gets in trouble when they do start walking people. You can't, however, sit back and try to make Wells lose his composure...he's been there a hundred times or so it seems, so he does know WTF is going on. You bunt, and hit and run, and try for basehits and not home runs, and you destroy him.
  6. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Oct 4, 2005 -> 07:13 PM) Dude I wanted to see the Indians in the Wild Card so the AL Central could have 2 teams in the playoffs. Why would you hope that? Indians of 2005 = White Sox of 2003. Both teams would(should) have been World Series favorites. Both teams "choked" at the end. This is nothing against you wire...I do happen to like the Indians, just not in the same division. I just gotta wonder what's gonna happen with the SP next year. Minor leaguers coming up, resignings...?
  7. QUOTE(Balance @ Oct 4, 2005 -> 10:23 PM) WHOOOOOO-HA! That was a fantastic game. I predict that tomorrow's game will be a nail-biter. This was a great start, though. I don't like Wells chances against an offense that hits LHP very well. I am also not sure I like Buehrle's chances either. So 10-9 would be a nailbiter...you could be correct.
  8. QUOTE(Goldmember @ Oct 4, 2005 -> 02:15 PM) and woke up the morning after, narrowly escaping by chewing off his arm upon discovering the hotness was jack induced...
  9. Cuddyer's an adequate offensive 2Bman, but with mediocre defense. At 3B? Mediocre offense, mediocre defense. Koskie makes sense for them. Morneau's a hell of a price to pay though.
  10. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Oct 3, 2005 -> 10:06 PM) If the Tribe made it to the playoffs and Hafner didnt cool down at the end Id say he should of got serious consideration. But the fact that he slowed down and Tribe missed the playoffs he shouldnt. People have to remember MVP isnt the best player its the one whose most valuable to his team. Also there is no east coast bias when it comes to MVP I think it almost always comes out of the West recently... actually isnt the last person who won it that wasnt in the AL West Frank Thomas? Finally since Ortiz and A-Rod are both in stacked lineups its hard to tell which is actually more valuable. Therefore you do have to look at numbers and overall A-Rods are better also he plays defense and in my opinion should win the MVP. Agreed on part one, agreed on part three. And Mo Vaughn is the correct answer...1995. Vlad - 04 - ANA(ALW) ARod - 03 - TEX(ALW) Tejada - 02 - OAK(ALW) Ichiro - 01 - SEA(ALW) Giambi - 00 - OAK(ALW) IRod - 99 - TEX(ALW) Gonzalez - 98 - TEX(ALW) Griffey Jr - 97 - SEA(ALW) Gonzalez - 96 - TEX(ALW) Vaughn - 95 - BOS(ALE) Thomas - 94 - CHW(ALC)
  11. Lucky me. Go to school at 8:25. Get out of school at 1:40. No work. AWESOME. I love high school...for the next day or so, maybe 2...I suck at calenders.
  12. Steve Bartman, wherever the hell you are, STAY THE f*** AWAY FROM USCF.
  13. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 3, 2005 -> 04:54 PM) Yeah, after the disaster that nearly befell the Bosox pitching staff in the playoffs last year when Schilling went down and Wakefield had to give up a start in order to end that 17 run Yankee explosion game, and then where Wakefield ended up starting game 7 on like 2 days rest, I'd have figured the Red Sox would carry at least 11, if not 12. Francona a few days ago actually was doing La-Russa style "1 pitcher per batter" substitutions in some late innings. If he's carrying only 10, he really can't afford to do that...his bullpen will wind up having only Arroyo if the game goes extras. Lowe started game 7 on 2 day's rest. 6 IP of 1 hit baseball is pretty damn good. October 20, 04 - Boston 10, New York 3
  14. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 3, 2005 -> 04:38 PM) The Red Sox win 90 games without Ortiz? Not a single chance. As for Slappy winning the MVP, I'll make a wager with you, if you'd like. Not considering who plays the field and who doesn't Hmmm... ARod - .321 48 HR 130 RBI 124 R 21 SB(27 ATT) .421/.610/1.031 on the division winner Ortiz - .300 47 HR 148 RBI 119 R 1 SB(1 ATT) .397/.604/1.001 on the wild card winner Looks like Ortiz is better in 1 offensive statistically category, and it just so happens to be one of the 2 major statistically categories in baseball that is almost entire dependent upon what your teammates do. My sig bet with qwerty ended in no one getting a sig, so I'll take a sig bet...why not?
  15. Why is New York b****ing? Oh ya, that's right, because they tried to back their way into home field advantage. They controlled their own destiny, so why should New York care? They should be mad at themselves for f***ing up and letting Boston just destroy them on the last day of the season, not Buck Showalter.
  16. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 3, 2005 -> 03:03 PM) Hahaha. Hafner are you kidding me? The case can be made for A-Rod, but Hafner? I was wrong, you aren't better than that. Again quit while you're behind. I thought Shannon Stewart was the MVP in 2003. His numbers weren't close to that of ARod or anyone else up for MVP consideration. MVP = most valuable player. You take Hafner out of the Indians lineup, and I would venture to guess that there is a chance they don't win 85, perhaps 80. You take Ortiz out of the Boston lineup, and they'll still win 90. ARods gonna win it anyways, so this entire argument seems to be moot.
  17. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 3, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) The Red Sox offense has been the best in baseball, the White Sox has been the third worst. The Red Sox pitching rotation is vastly underrated and has alot of experience with David Wells and Curt Schilling at the top. The White Sox have a much better bullpen, the Red Sox have more depth offensively. It's virtually high powered offense versus high powered pitching staff; usually pitching wins, but we shall see. Good luck. Playoff experience is overrated itself...a lack of it is not the end of the world, as seen by the 2002 playoffs where 2 the two teams that were in the ALCS were in their first playoffs since 91(Minnesota) and 86(Angels), while knocking off teams that had made the playoffs 3 straight years(Athletics) and 8 straight years(Yankees). So you can't say a pitching staff is underrated using an overrated variable. Regarding the offense...if you are talking about average, which the Sox are tied for 3rd worst in, then you are making a complete assinine assertion. Average is one of the most overrated stats you can use when judging a team's offense. A team can hit .220 and still put up a team .800 OPS and still score 800 runs. They had the 6th lowest total for runs, 4th most homers, 4th worst team OBP, and tied for 7th best team SLG%. It looks a hell of a lot more like a mediocre offense to me, not the 3rd worst in the majors. They also had probably the second best overall pitching staff in the AL...they tied Cleveland for the team ERA title, but had fewer K's, allowed more hits and more walks, thus equaling a worse WHIP. If Ramirez and Ortiz don't destroy the Sox, this series should easily go to the White Sox.
  18. I haven't seen much Tigers baseball, but I have heard that Trammell is about as bad at in game managing as Ozzie. The difference between the two is that one has a pitching staff to work with, while the other has complete garbage, with perhaps 1 lone exception that got shut down at the end of the year. The fun thing to think about...where does Pineilla end up? Or was Tampa his last hurrah?
  19. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Oct 3, 2005 -> 02:23 PM) Ummmmmmmmmmmmm....yeah, I stick by my statement. I'm sure Boston was saying the same exact thing last year in the ALCS about Dave Roberts.
  20. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Oct 2, 2005 -> 10:17 PM) Have you ever noticed what ESPN runs opposite of Monday night football. -- It's nothing but Ice Skating, Rythmic Gymnastics, and Women's Billiards. -- ABC and ESPN are both Disney, and one of them falls on the sword for the other. They don't want to take any of MNF's audience, so they run crap. I happen to like Rythmic Gymnastics, thank you very much
  21. Contreras has to be cash money. I say this, full well knowing he was unf***inghittable in the second half. I also say this, because he is our only starter with 2 scheduled starts. If we go 2-0 in his starts, that means we win the series in 5. We don't get to Contreras, and that is a very good/bad thing...either they're rested going to the ALCS, or they're rested for their golf trip.
  22. QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Oct 2, 2005 -> 10:35 PM) I didn't see it posted anywhere, but Contreras was named AL Pitcher of the Month for September. That makes 3 Sox pitchers who have done that this season. If ever I see an analyst question the Sox starting pitching, I think I'm gonna snap. 4 starters with ERAs below 4, 4 starters with 14 wins or more, and just sick numbers in the last weeks of the regular season. It's our f***in' time.
  23. You are about the last person I thought I'd see eat crow. Good to know you stepped up to the plate instead of disappearing.
  24. QUOTE(qwerty @ Oct 2, 2005 -> 11:42 PM) You better be saying that about chris young if and when he makes it to the majors... I somehow knew you were going to mention this.
  25. Hey knight... You remember when I called this kind of season back in February/March?
